Nothing all that new. Brandt, Kirwan and Miller loved our draft, but POVs have been debated pro and con, so I’ll leave it at that.
-As To Jones, Kirwan remarked that he watched him all week at the Senior Bowl and at the end of the week of practice, he was the best one (I presume of the QBs)
-DG said in addition to seeing him live, he loved the 3 series he watched DJ at the Senior Bowl game
-DG went back to watch the tapes of his ‘17 season in addition to this year. “I don’t do this as a hobby.”
-As to Lawrence, he said he could fill a doorway and he’s got a terrific “pass rush push.”
-Baker: “Best cover guy in the draft” in his opinion.
-Jim Miller asked, why there seems to be more draft trades than ever. DG said, sure, being able to trade comp picks are part of it, but he believes that there’s simply a new generation of young GMs who love to wheel and deal.
-Oshane Ximines: He said many kids come out and they’re not great counterpunchers , but this kid’s got a full arsenal in his toolbox. He’s got strength, power and explosion for where they took him.
-Shocked that Love was there. “He stood out like a sore thumb on our board.” He’s really smart and his staff believes he can be a possible Free Safety down the line.
-Kiwan loves Ballantine and he impressed during Senior Bowl week. DG says you’re always looking for a Division II kid during Senior bowl week to step up to the plate, to see if he cowers and he stepped up big..
That’s about it:
Disclaimer: I was writing very quickly so some of the points, some of the quotes, might be a little off, so before you blame DG for certain opinions, it in all likelihood is my transcription more than anything. Still, I believe I hit on the main points..
If anyone heard the interview, any corrections to what I heard or anything additional you might want to add, please feel free to do so.
2019: Baker Peppers Bethea JJ - Love
2020: Baker; Peppers Love; Beal - Haley?
That struck me as well..I am trying to remember if Sy ever talked about such a (possible) switch down the road
That’s where I believe the plans are for now according to DG
Why say something so stupid? If this was the guy you were always planning to take at #6 you damn well better have watched his 2017 tape, you better have watched all his college tape, his high school tape and tape from his 8th grade graduation.
It's comments like these that make me have little confidence in DG.

WTF are you talking about? He answered the question in passing. Of course he knows everything there is to know about DJ.
What does that mean, “pans it?”

There is nothing stupid about what he said. All he did was say he did his due diligence, probably after the backlash from people like you misinterpreting his senior bowl comment as well.

it won't matter what DG says. If Jones busts, it won't matter what DG says. Don't take these quotes so seriously.
What does that mean, “pans it?”
I think he's saying "pans out", makes it

Duh. I see it now. Thanks
Thanks, I heard the Slayton but couldn’t write fast enough so I missed the entirety of it..
Jones ain't busting... he may not he a super star but he is way to efficient to bust.
I like this class. And I'm someone who wasn't even high on Jones.
I do realize what they see in him and like about him, and hopefully he pans out. I'll be rooting for him.

As will I. I know you preferred Haskins..
They're going to need him to play right away and he really shouldn't.
His own coach (Meyer) has basically admitted as much.
If Haskins does succeed in Washington, I'll be pretty impressed. Because I don't think they're going to do him any favors there.
People saw “Duke QB” and “Manning Connection” on top of the ESPN stat drooling and wrote Jones off without even giving him a chance or thinking for themselves (or even watching Jones play)
I’ll gladly take the 6’5 mobile QB over Haskins - who I highly doubt will be as successful now that the talent gap has leveled and he won’t have his all star team turning crossing routes into long TDs for his stats
Are you doing this on purpose? Right above DG says he reviewed tapes of all Jones starts in 17 and 18

If you put any credence in comments like that, your confidence probably doesn't mean shit.
I'm sure the Giants lined up some photos of players and just chucked darts to see who they should pick.
I'm sure he would have been - but not for the right reasons.
I think it would largely be better received here for the sole reason that being taken by NYG @ 6 is where a lot of the pundits had him going. And because most of them had him rated near the top of the QB class (a lot of them had him behind Murray)
So, no one would have been surprised, everyone would have just said "well, the Giants took their QB!" and that would be that.
But, because barely anyone had Jones going ahead of Haskins or going top 10, mass hysteria ensued.
People just become programmed after months of draft talk to believe that the "rankings" actually reflect something tangible and whenever a player goes well above where they were "supposed to" go, people suddenly think it's got to be a massive reach or a horrible pick.
Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't.
Only time will tell.
But, I have a feeling Washington and Haskins aren't going to be a cushy marriage. Half that team seems more worried about getting "revenge" against NYG than taking care of business, and they just routinely seem to lack any sort of actual direction.
The Redskins are going to be the same team they always are.
We’ll see, but I found the overreaction to the Jones pick absurd.
Obviously I can't say for sure how different it was, or how many teams had Jones ahead of Haskins, etc... but I absolutely believe that Jones would have likely been off the board by 17.
I don't know how anyone can sit and listen to morons like Max Kellerman yell and scream about how awful the pick was knowing full well that he has zero credibility or skill when it comes to evaluating college prospects. He doesn't know shit about Daniel Jones, but he's routinely one of the loudest guys opposing it.
I turned my TV on the morning after the draft, and it was still on ESPN since that's where the draft was - I couldn't change the channel fast enough. The whiny, uneducated takes by some of these guys are just fucking brutal.
I didn't even love the pick, but I understand it - I see what is drawing them to Jones and I'm sure as hell going to give him every chance to prove himself here before I ever write him off.
It took Eli time to establish himself. It may take Jones some time too.
I'm just beyond tired of all of these people who aren't even willing to consider that they might be wrong or off on this guy.
Meanwhile, it's based on nothing but an untrained eye, a ton of projecting, and a lot of acting like total crybabies over not getting what they wanted.

Depends if Haley continues to develop as nickel

You know how BBI is. They actually put credence into the physical part of OTAs, so if DJ completes 5 in a row, the Anti’s will probably say, “boy was I wrong about this kid.” In jest there is truth. At least on here. :)

I'm glad DG looked at every game from 2017 because there were some pretty ugly efforts in there.
