NFT: Any chance Tuesday's NBA draft lottery gets “rigged?”

Beezer : 5/12/2019 5:04 pm
We’ll never know. But ... Ewing? lol

I’m not completely serious. Just talking here at BeezHouse this afternoon about how fired up/nervous we are, about what it means, the potential impact, etc.

Knicks get the No. 1 pick - in other words, Zion - it certainly sets the stage for some seriously exciting stuff centering on New York.

Conversation here was spurred by talk of the largest fan bases in the NBA. Lakers are said to be No. 1 based on (albeit microcosmic) Facebook follows. Knicks are 11th. Add Durant, another top-tier FA, Zion or even a top-three draft pick?

Just how well is the NBA set up for a potential cash cow with a revamped Knicks?

In any event, Tuesday!!! Let’s go!!! Ewing!!!
The league has had a ton of chances to help the Knicks since 1985

and they haven't. I don't expect them to start this week.

I'm already having fantasies and with the first pick in the 2019 nba draft....the new york knicks.
Just like i predicted the Rangers would get the second pick
SJGiant : 5/12/2019 5:44 pm : link
in the lottery NHL draft, I am guessing that the Knicks will get the second pick in the NBA lottery draft.

If somehow the Lakers win it...
SFGFNCGiantsFan : 5/12/2019 5:51 pm : link
I'll laugh.

Lot of good that'll do...I want #1. Not #3 and not #2.
I am happy we are getting no worse than a top 5 pick.
robbieballs2003 : 5/12/2019 6:14 pm : link
I don't think any of these players are top tier NBA talents but should be some really nice players. I don't need a transcendent player. I just need a player that will help this team win a championship with Durant and company.
We should all be happy we are getting a quality player.
robbieballs2003 : 5/12/2019 6:20 pm : link
The top 4 seem to be Zion, Morant, Barrett, and Culver. I think the Knicks are very high on Culver for his defense. As much as I really like Morant and feel the Knicks haven't had a true PG since Mark Jackson, Morant is not a good defender at all. He gets steals but when you actually watch his games he takes so many plays off. That is probably because he exerts so much energy offensively but the Knicks have made it extremely clear they want guys who bust their ass on the defensive end. Culver had a bad last 2 games in the tournament but he is still a guy I'd love on this team.
Coming to terms with the 5th pick
Reeses Pieces : 5/12/2019 6:37 pm : link
Knicks never luck out. Williamson can change a franchise at 1, Morant very likely can do the same at 2, Barrett is a likely league all-star in the near future at 3. I'll sign now for a top 3 pick. Picks 4 and 5 just don't have the same value.

next closest team? Do they still do the ping pong ball thing, or am I dating myself?
Zero chance
Jim in Fairfax : 5/12/2019 6:41 pm : link
While I don’t think the 85 lottery was rigged, it certainly would have been fairly simple to do: it was 7 envelopes in a bowl. The current system of ping pong ball combination drawings is much more complex, and the whole affair is observed by an independent accounting firm. No chance for hanky panky.

Yes, ping pong balls I believe still exist, tho I don't recall if they show it on TV?

Top 3 have the same 14% chance for #1

As the worst record, we can only drop as far as 5th, for which we have like a 48% chance, while the remaining 52% is spread among the 1st 4 picks

2nd worst record can go as low as 6, and so on
I'm pretty sure if it works
pjcas18 : 5/12/2019 7:18 pm : link
out in a manner that is anti-Knicks it will be considered "rigged".
of course he lakers will win

Somewhere in the country, a few years back...
Crispino : 5/12/2019 7:30 pm : link
a state lottery was fixed by using a hypodermic needle to inject a small amount of water into all of the balls except for the desired balls. Being the lightest balls in the hopper, those automatically popped up first. They plan was thwarted because too many people were in on it and so the number of winners set off alarm bells with lottery officials. So the ping pong ball thing, or probably any system, is possible to rig.

Correct. If the Knicks win, it was just the odds. If the Knicks don't win, we call "shenanigans"
Lakers will win the lottery.
FStubbs : 5/12/2019 7:41 pm : link
The league wants LeBron back in the thick of things and wants a competitive Lakers team. LeBron+Zion+some free agent who would come to be a part of that = $$$ in the eyes of the league.
Well Patrick Ewing is representing the Knicks
TheShade : 5/12/2019 7:50 pm : link
At the draft lottery. So I say YES, the lotto will be rigged for the Knicks once again. The NBA can't have both the Knicks and Lakers are laughingstocks of the NBA. So THE RIG IS ON!!!!
As great as it would be
Strahan91 : 5/12/2019 8:01 pm : link
it seems highly unlikely given the odds combined with the fact that it’s the Knicks. Hopefully KD will lessen the blow shortly after July 1st. I also think people are sleeping on Garland who’d be my pick at 4.
If you offered me the 2nd pick

2nd pick gives us highest probability for Anthony Davis. 1st pick could mean we just keep Zion. 2nd pick highest value at that spot is clearly Morant yet we likely get Kyrie with KD so he becomes somewhat redundant. Pels probably have Ja and Zion a tier above everyone else and then maybe Barrett and then another drop from there to Culver and maybe Hunter.

2nd pick probably gives both sides high enough mutual motivation to make a deal.
Top 2 will do
Dave in PA : 5/12/2019 10:53 pm : link
Zion or Morant. Just get one of these guys and it will be a massive boost for the franchise
If we get a top 1/2 pick
Mike from SI : 5/13/2019 12:21 am : link
And dont take Zion/Ja, the vitriol may approach Daniel Jones pick levels
I am fine with top 3
GMEN46 : 5/13/2019 8:36 am : link
I actually think Barrett will be a very good NBA player. Anything outside top 3 would be very disappointing.

I'm almost expecting it.
Last few hours of hope for the Knicks
Oscar : 5/13/2019 9:38 am : link
Today and tomorrow people can still project a team with Zion, Durant, Kyrie - or maybe AD instead of Zion.

Beginning tomorrow night it is (in all likelihood) someone like Culver, KD, Kyrie.

Then it will become Culver, KD, Kemba.

Then Culver, Kemba, Butler.

Then just Culver and Butler.

Then next season the Knicks finish ninth in the East and the cycle begins anew.
The defeatism displayed here is awesome.
Beezer : 5/13/2019 10:08 am : link
lol

People. POSITIVE VIBES! Let's get this done! We NEED a good team for a change. The management seems to be better, for several reasons. The coach is potentially terrific. We have a lot of potential positives coming the Knicks' way.

POSITIVE ENERGY, people!
Knicks
TyreeHelmet : 5/13/2019 10:17 am : link
I'm all for positivity and hope the Knicks win the lottery. With that said the odds are against them. And if they get the 5th pick after that season, that is truly a disaster.
The Knicks aren't getting

the 5th pick.
It's basically a coin flip betwen 5th pick or a top 4 pick.

Or you could say statistically speaking they are likely to get one of the top four picks (52%).
Knicks fans should hope not
Chris684 : 5/13/2019 10:54 am : link
If it's rigged for anyone it will be for LeBron and the Lakers.

Right now the NBA might be looking at LeBron ending his career on shit Lakers teams sitting out the playoffs the next 3 years in the West.

Meanwhile, the Knicks have sucked for so long, why would anyone care if it's 5 or more years at this point?
Yes

Anyone who takes Culver over Hunter will regret it
Greg from LI : 5/13/2019 11:36 am : link
Yeah, I'm a homer. Culver is good but Hunter is better. Bigger, longer arms, better defender, better shot, and he's a money player. They went head to head for most of the title game and Hunter outplayed him. If Hunter could improve his handle, he could be a borderline All Star.
NBA draft lottery gets “rigged?”
Torrag : 5/13/2019 11:59 am : link
Let's hope so. Bettman just rigged the NHL lottery for the devils and Rangers so we'll see if Silver has the balls and brains to do the same.
