I agree with the premise. But with a talent deficient team, one could make the argument that a number of players will have a breakout year compared to what was there from last year.
Many lament the loss of Collins as if he is some irreplaceable talent. Even Brooks makes the comment, "From a football standpoint, Peppers hasn't played to Collins' level,". No worries, Bucky, Collins hasn't played to Collins' level (2016). The one year has buoyed Collins' reputation around the league. But when looking at the body of work, 2016 was the outlier. What he has shown is that he is an oft-injured in the box safety that likes to shoulder tackle.
Now, Baker and Lawrence will be breakout players, but your first round talents should have high expectations. I'm looking at BJ Hill as being the breakout player on the line. He played well and flashed with 5.5 sacks. He is a card-carrying member of the Red Hat Mafia and I think he will take a big jump this year notching double digit sacks.
No! That couldn’t be. I heard on ESPN that DG got taken by the Browns. Lawrence, Zeitler, Peppers and Ximines for OBJ and Vernon. I hope DG gets taken like that over and over.
a blurb in the linked article about Mike Mayock’s team-building philosophy. He looks for players from winning programs, especially those who were team captains. Hmm, I think I’ve heard that mantra somewhere else before...

Plus $10 million of additional cap space in 2020 and several years thereafter. That's one or even two solid players on top op of the players you referenced.
Yup - Collins is on the short list for most overrated players in the league.
I disagree. Yes he got paid, but the narrative now is so much that he's 'overrated' and 'overpaid' that I actually think he's becoming underrated.
It's all semantics anyhow, but I do think his game is being diminished. He is a rock solid NFL player. Yes he has deficiencies like most, but he's a damn good player.
2 of our best moves were letting Collins walk and getting Peppers in the Beckham deal. Its an upgrade with a guy with more versatility and saves tons of cash over the next 3 years.

Yeah the giants in 2014. All but one of our draftees was a team captain. I'll give you one guess to name the one that wasn't a captain and give you 100 internet dollars to name the rest of the picks without google.

Thanks.
Peppers ... pass rush - ( New Window )
I expect quite a few of these in this scheme ... he’ll make Landon Collins an afterthought . So much better in coverage
Peppers - ( New Window )
