Wow.

I’m actually shocked. Of all the jobs he could have had, the Cavs?

Let the meltdown commence from all of our resident Michigan fans...
I was at west virginia when he was coach

Those teams were fun to watch and he got the most out of the talent he had, you could see how much they loved playing for him and his system should be fine in the nba..

Funny he gets a 5 year deal, only 1 team refuses to give 5 year deals

Fantastic hire, young team perfect for a first time nba coach
They will win the lottery
Oscar : 5/13/2019 9:35 am : link
That’s what they do. I suppose he could have waited a day to confirm that but it’s not a bad job depending on your view of Sexton. Another top-6 pick coming, low pressure environment. There are only 30 NBA jobs and he’s 66 years old.

Bigger question I guess is why would Cleveland want a 66 year old college coach? Maybe they feel he can play an important role developing their young guys for a couple years.
If Cleveland wins

the lottery AGAIN, I give up.
Big fan of Beilein

you know it is going to happen..

Cavs 1, lakers 2
Fun side story...

My father was an athletic director in Buffalo when Beilein was a young teacher.

My father hired him to his first coaching job as a JV boys basketball coach.

From there he went to Erie Community College and worked his way up from EVERY level of basketball from JUCO, Div III, Div II and finall Div. I.

The only level he never coached was HS Varsity.

Best coach in America, IMO.
Good hire

Very surprising move by Beilein. The Cavs could be in good shape though. I believe they can also trade JRs contract to help facilitate a trade or clear cap space for a team.

As a Knicks fan, the Cavs, Lakers or Mavs winning the lottery tomorrow is a complete nightmare...
Sad day :(
dep026 : 5/13/2019 10:36 am : link
I hope he gets Zion.
Very surprised he took that job
Greg from LI : 5/13/2019 10:43 am : link
Cleveland is a coach-killer kind of job.

I do get why he'd jump at the NBA though. Michigan is losing pretty much everyone and this is as good a time as any to make a move. At his age, he won't get many more opportunities to coach in the NBA.
As a Michigan alum this hurts
soz915 : 5/13/2019 11:10 am : link
And I’m upset, but there will be no meltdown from em. Super happy for Beilein. If this is what he wanted, he deserves it. He rebuilt Michigan from the ground up and left it in better shape than anyone could’ve asked for. It sucks we’ll have to replace him and the immediate uncertainty around who it will be is frustrating, but wish Coach B all the best.
Pretty surprising move by Beilein....

at age 66. Comfy, high paying , secure job in hand and he jumps to a player's league. Good luck to him though. Good guy.
