Welcome back, Hicksie.

Lasagna scratched from his start - Cessa starting instead. Not clear what the reason is. Per Dune in the other thread - Adams is actually on the lineup card and Loaisiga is not - so, either he's going down, is banged up... not sure. We'll find out soon enough, I'm sure.

Fantastic trip from MIN & gt; TB with the Yanks going 7-3 in that span.

Just a half game behind TB now.

Game might be delayed tonight, but it looks like the rain will be leaving the area around 8. We'll see if they can get it in.

Loaisiga to IL, so there's our answer.

No idea how or when he got hurt, but.. I guess that's just kind of been the theme this year.

to 10 day IL with shoulder strain.

Hicks recalled, Tauchman optioned down.

Chance Adams recalled to the pen, Cessa making the spot start.

Seems to be the summary of moves.
probably a less than zero chance this game gets played tonight

Interesting ...

Adams has looked very good in his last two outings at AAA-SWB. IMO they should have let him continue building on it for a little while longer at AAA. He's had a rough going since his surgery, and I would like to see more than a couple of good outings strung together before bringing him up. But with Johnny Glass-man going on the DL, maybe Adams is the next best choice.

Speaking of players made of glass, I also see today where they transferred Bird to the 60-day DL. His time as a Yank is all but up, four years in a row ending very early due to injury.

arcarsenal : 5/13/2019 3:46 pm : link
As of now, weather.com has these precipitation chances by hour for the Bronx...

6p - 100%
7p - 75%
8p - 55%
9p - 35%
10p - 25%

It looks like it's moving out of the area, but probably not until an hour or so beyond scheduled first pitch.

I could see them getting the game in after a delay, but since it's the O's and we've got more games with them, it's probably easy to postpone it if need be.
Poor Johnny Lasagna....

When/how the heck did he even get hurt?

These are the really frustrating ones. It seems like they just come out of nowhere during side throwing sessions, etc.

It was like this with Severino too. He was scheduled to start a ST game, then got scratched last minute and that was that.

We can survive without him and I don't think Paxton will be out too long beyond his IL span, but man... it's just crazy how these guys just keep getting hurt with seemingly no rhyme or reason.
They really need to call this game
Ron from Ninerland : 5/13/2019 4:05 pm : link
I'm amazed they haven't already. Its the home team's perogative to call a game if the road team will be making another visit. The temp will be in the 40's by game time, and they can't take batting practice. This is just the kind of conditions that get players hurt. Also if they call the game they can skip Cessa. Not that I have anything against Cessa, but the BP will have to pitch 6 innings tonight. Do we really need that ?

I noticed that Rotographs highlighted old friend Jorge Mateo as a AAA player who could make an MLB impact later this year. With the caveat that it's the PCL and Las Vegas, he's hitting .338/.376/.581 in 34 games with 9 2Bs/9(!) 3Bs/4 HR. 11-14 on SB attempts. He's playing second now. High BAbip but a speedster like him will tend to have that.

Andujar should just have the surgery. I have a feeling he's not going to be back this year.

Hopefully Urshela's regression won't hit too hard.

I don't think we've had a player return from the IL this year without simultaneously losing someone else either the same day or right after. Uncanny.

Oh well, we've been dealing with this shit all year. What's a little more.

Agree - the sooner Andujar has the surgery, the better IMO. hopefully you can have him ready for opening day 2020. Sucks, but it is what it is. I'd rather have it 100% in the past by the time DJLM is looking at free agency again after 2020.

If Urshela tapers off to an untenable level, DJLM can play 3B with Thairo at 2B (until Didi comes back and Torres shifts back to 2B).
I really hope

per the Post:

The Yankees announced they had claimed Breyvic Valera off waivers from the Giants, and they’ll send the 27-year-old from Venezuela to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. To make room for him on the 40-man roster, they moved Greg Bird to the 60-day disabled list. Bird, who has said timetables are “pointless,” last played a game April 13.

Valera, a second and third baseman, adds some depth to a farm system that has graduated Gio Urshela and Thairo Estrada, valuable contributors since injuries forced their call-ups.

And he is on the 40 man after Bird was placed on 60 day IL..I don't mind Wade coming up. He is an excellent glove.

As far as Urshela - even if he regresses to .260 or so his glove is still very good. The infield defense has looked soooo much better with Urshela and DJLM it is starke by comparison to last year.
.
arcarsenal : 5/13/2019 5:06 pm : link
Good catch on Valera, Del... didn't realize he'd been added to the 40 when Bird was transferred to the 60 day.

I like that Wade can play all over the field and has speed on the bases - he's just such a weak hitter. His AB's drive me crazy.

But if he's a bench guy and not playing every day, he's fine for now.

It is easy to say that now cause of Paxton getting hurt. But Gonzalez didn't have a place in the rotation. So you would be putting a $3 mill starter in the bullpen with no idea if he can pitch there. All his incentives were geared to start where he would be getting over 300k a start. You might as well sign Keuchel then. Everyone is waiting till after June 2nd so they don't have to give up a draft pick.
This team just can't shake the

A week or two ago they were saying Stanton's return would be soon after Hick's return. The report over the weekend said Stanton is still hitting off a tee, has yet to practice fielding, and his return is a big TBD with no clear timetable.

Giantfan21 : 5/13/2019 6:40 pm : link
He doesn't have the durability to last as a starter at this point but he has an electric arm so they should convert him to middle relief and let him air out in the bullpen .

As far as Cessa, he threw 3 innings and 45 pitches 5 days ago so im not sure why he can't be stretched out a little more and throw 60 tonight . Boone said he can only go 2 or 3 innings and i dont understand why

Baltimore is back here in August. It shouldn't be that hard to make one of those a day/night double dip. The August 14 game is a Wednesday @ 1:05. It's not like this is the last time they're going to be in town.

I get that they're trying to get the game played because there are fans there and the teams are out there ready to go, etc... but not only does the OF look dangerous, but the dirt in foul territory is all total slop. Someone's going to wipe out chasing a foul ball. It just looks super sketchy.

On top of that, it's like 40 degrees out.

Asking to get people hurt by forcing this game in.

Yeah but the Yanks are usually pretty good about this type of thing. They'll call games early in the day if they know they can't get it in but the tell tale sign for them is if/when they open the gates.

They usually don't open them if they don't think the can get the game in and once they do open, they'll do whatever they can to play.

I don't understand that, either - why does the 5000 gallons of tarp water just get dumped and redistributed back into the outfield? There's no way they can pump it out to another part of the park or just directly into the drainage system? It rained on that thing all day... there was water everywhere.

The outfield was literally covered in like 2" of water. I don't know why they let that happen. I guess the drains just couldn't hold any more.

This spring has been absolutely brutal with the rain.

It really feels like it has been raining 5-6 days a week for nearly 2 months now. I'm probably exaggerating, but that's what it seems like. We get one or two really nice days in the middle of the week and then it's back to slop.

I guess this is the tradeoff for never needing my snow shovel once last winter. Actually, I think we had that random snow storm in November, but that was it.

Hope we get out of this pattern soon and get more consistent warm, sunny days.
