This is just interesting to me.
For preseason I believe you need 1st, 2nd and 3rd string at all position groups to just make it through the preseason. So for example you need ~ 15 OL. Not exactly, but that's just a basic premise of roster construction.
We had very few DL until recently, which Eric from BBI pointed out. I think they are up to 9 now - 3 strings filled. Before the draft we couldn't even field 3 strings - that was scary.
With ~20 DBs on the roster it shows on the macro level how much Betcher's defense is predicated from the secondary. 20 feels like a lot. That 3rd string at the Dime package level with 2 to spare. And out of the 20 DBs I think the only one who was on the roster at the end of the 17 season is Jenkins (that is probably wrong).
Also, I think if they have to free up a spot, with camp in mind, DB is a very likely spot they will do.
Finally I would expect the final roster to be a little long on DB's and a little short elsewhere.
Just something to mull over at a quiet period of the season...
What's going to be interesting is to compare the September 2019 roster with the September 2017 roster.
Obviously, rosters are very fluid at this stage. Also, Ballentine and Thieneman probably can’t participate at the moment.
