Most NFL games are close. Even though the Giants scored more points than Dallas, Philly or Washington, in 2018, we also gave up the most points in the NFC East. Although we out-scored 10-6 Dallas by 30 points, Dallas gave up 89 fewer points than the Giants.
We gave up over 400 points. The other NFL teams that gave up over 400 points all drafted in the top ten along with the Giants. Does that suggest a reason why we ignored drafting an OT and drafted 7 defensive players this year?
Hopefully, our draft along with the development of 2nd year players McIntosh and Beal will improve our defense, our team speed, and our special teams.
There is no guarantee that our defense has improved over last year, but if not, it won't be for the lack of trying.
I am hopeful that an improved defense will significantly close the gap between the number of points scored and the number of points given up. That should allow the Giants to climb out of the hole that poor drafting has dug for us over the last few years. Only time will tell, but I'm hopeful.
I'm optimistic but not expecting a great year. I just want to see improvement throughout the year and for them to finish strong.
.....the offense turns into a ball control offense, which put less pressure on the defense.
Allowing the defense to gel and have team peaking at the end of season
I think this years schedule is "fairer" towards the Giants. Easier teams, an away game at Met Life, travel is much lighter than in years past. All of these types of things might mean a few more wins than last year's mess.
Just think, Lawrence and Baker will be starters and love will have a chance to start at nickel. The vet players like Ogletree, Golden, Bethea, Jenkins will be the guys leading this super young defense. I am most excited about Zo Carter, Jibril Peppers and X Man!
There is a ton of talent, can Bettcher bring it together?

Agreed. Unfortunately, with the rules regarding practices, there isn't as much time as there used to be for an O-Line to establish any real cohesion. Ditto for a secondary. My hope is that the team, as a whole, is playing much better in December than it was in September. I want to see steady improvement.

Ditto. I'm kind of expecting a a moment this season where we see the tables turn and we gel into the kind of team no one wants to play. I think we do that mostly by getting back to some good old fashioned smash mouth football. Screw basketball on grass. Force our will with the run and control the clock. Punish teams when they try to run on us. With all the new secondary help, no more field days for opposing QB's. I think in a few years we're going to look back at 2019 as the year Giant pride was restored.
With a new secondary and new NT, the slate is clean.
I think 7-9 / 8-8 is a good season at this point.
Misfit Collins and Curtis Riley at safety, with 0 depth at CB, is a nightmare we no longer need to watch unfold every weekend
Kevin Seifert, national NFL writer: New York Giants. Their moves were confounding, from dispatching two of their best young players in OBJ (26 years old) and Collins (25) to reaching for quarterback Daniel Jones. But from a bigger picture, their contradictory vision and an old-school approach suggest this franchise is headed toward an extended down cycle.

HOw many games did Vernon and OBJ miss due to injury over the years? If Collins was a leader and the defense was awful, whats that say about the "leader"?
The difference always comes down to coaching and execution in close games.
The Giants will be better when they cut out the mistakes from the sidelines, cover the pass better downfield, and increase their yards per reception.
I can see them at ten wins.
