"I was the backup quarterback on an 0-8 team...

Milton : 5/15/2019 11:15 am
...my freshman year of high school. I got to Michigan, I was seventh string, and I had a hard time getting to be No. 2, and when I finally got to No. 1 there was someone else (Drew Henson) they wanted to be No. 1. I got to be a sixth-round pick behind a great player, Drew Bledsoe, and then I got an opportunity, and I'm still trying to take advantage of it. Part of who I am now is very much who I was, and that was cultivated growing up."

Tom Brady
One of the things I like about Daniel Jones...
Milton : 5/15/2019 11:18 am : link
...is that he's been underestimated from the get-go. It didn't put a chip on his shoulder, but it ingrained in him the character and work ethic to put his head down and fight for every inch.

I am sure we would all sign up for that.
I wanted the Giants to draft Brady

and bring him along behind Kerry Collins.

Tom Brady was underestimated
Mike from Ohio : 5/15/2019 11:37 am : link
We have no idea whether or not Daniel Jones is underestimated. Plenty of QBs are doubted and it makes them more determined to be the best they can be. But most of them have limits that hard work alone will never overcome. Look at Davis Webb. We all heard about how hard he worked and how much of a professional he was. None of that makes up for not having the talent.

This is not intended to shit on Daniel Jones because I have decent expectations for him. But this same post could have been written about Davis Webb two years ago. It's not a corollary so much as a hope.
While I Understand

No direct comparison is being made, I would be careful to compare anyone to Tom Brady. The vast majority of qb's that have that kind of resume never amount to much of anything in the NFL, he is very much an outlier.

Daniel Jones seems to have all the tools to be a consistent top 10 qb in this league. But we do not know yet whether that will happen. Any tangential comparison to Tom Brady is not applicable.

I'd also add that in the position he was selected, the Giants were not underestimating Jones. You select a qb that high with the expectation that he evolve into a consistent top 10 performer at his position in the league. You do not hope he turns into a serviceable qb or game manager.
So now we're comparing Jones to Brady

Oh boy
So Jones will be the Next Brady or Peyton is Eli...
sb from NYT Forum : 5/15/2019 12:17 pm : link
....good to see that expectations aren’t too high.
...OR Eli

More like comparing one aspect of Brady's journey with one aspect of Jones's journey.

Obviously a more important piece is Brady's processing speed, something which Jones has been criticized for by the draftniks. Is it a fair criticism? Jones's wonderlic score of 37 suggests he's IQ smart, but that's different than football smart. Time will tell.

The Patriots cheat
I Love Clams Casino : 5/15/2019 2:30 pm : link
and will always be cheaters.

Tom Brady doesn't seem to care about money with the Patriots...and isn't it interesting that a company TB holds an interest in is contracted by the Patriots?

I ascribe no particular greatness to cheaters, teams or players....

Jealousy is not a good look.
it's nice to hope
Bill in UT : 5/15/2019 3:25 pm : link
but the odds are strongly that most people with Brady's early history go on to be nothingburgers.
Tom Brady and Dan Jones
Vanzetti : 5/15/2019 5:51 pm : link
3 letters in the first name.

5 letters in the last name.

Wolverines= 10 letters
Blue Devils= 10 letters

IF DG is smart he will find a super model for Jones to marry and then just sit back and watch the championships roll in.

But she can't just be any super model or it would be too easy.

Has to be Brazilian.
Brady is an anomaly.
FStubbs : 5/16/2019 11:49 am : link
At the same time, he fell into the right situation at the right time to develop into what he is today. In any other situation he's a random name on some NFL draft archive site.

+1. I've always wondered how successful he would be on a different team under a different system.
