I found it comical how some were praising the Jets this offseason as if they were headed in the right direction. Maccagnan lost his power struggle with the newly hired Gase. This makes me wonder if Maccagnan wanted to go in a different direction for the HC but ownership forced Gase on him.
Good luck finding a new GM this late in the offseason. I expect several candidates to turn them down.
This is the Jetsiest move since Rex Ryan was out there
who is close with someone in the jets organization ,this is the email the guy in the organization sent him the day after round one of the draft
Remember after FA when I said i heard there was a rift between Mac and Gase already? Well according to my very reliable source within the Jets organization, not only is it 100% true, but it is BAD! Its stems from a few things. 1) Gase being a type A psycho control freak who is now realizing his loss of personal power kind of sucks and look at Mac as a lame duck GM, 2) the apparent fact that Mac is totally wishy washy and cant make a decision and 3) Free agency. There were two players Gase really wanted in FA that Mac would not go after. One, as we discussed prior was Paradis. Gase wanted him, Paradis wanted the Jets, for whatever reason Mac said no. The other was a TE from Cleveland (cant recall his name) that Mac also said no to. And this really pissed off Gase. Also while the organization doesnt totally blame Mac for the Barr debacle, they are pissed that it made the team look so bad and also that Mac had no plan B and now they still need an edge rusher. Rumor (unconfirmed) is that there was a chance Mac was going to be canned after the draft...again totally unconfirmed.
There was a dinner last Wednesday between Gase, Mac and a moderator to try and mend the rift. i dont know if all is well or not now but that prior Gase was trying to do what he could to force Mac out. So the dysfunction continues....
Other briefs ON The draft not saying all are true, just what i heard.
Sam Darnold is entering year 2 in NFL system number 2 with a head coach, who in addition to implementing this system and teaching it to his franchise QB will be juggling GM duties for the first time as well.
Mac must've been as big of an asshole as the media portrayed him to be. I mean he gets the (the hopeful) franchise QB last year, he gets the BPA in this year's draft, he spends a SHIT TON of money in FA...And they can him?
page. Makes sense to end the problem rather than let it linger for a year and make the move later on. Looks like they are going to hire Eagles director of personnel. He's a well-thought of guy and the Jets will be better off long term.
The Jets OL and WR core were among the worst in football and how do the Jets address it? They let James Carpenter go and instead trade for Kelechi Osemele. Osemele was coming off arguably the worst season of his career and will be 30 next season. They have a huge hole at center and they could use an ugrade at both tackle spots especially RT where Shell struggled last season. Winters is an average at best RG also. They did draft Chuma Edoga in round 4 which was a good pick IMO but he will likely need to kick inside in the pros. He is also a developmental type who won't contribute next season.
Their answer to address the WR position? Giving Jamison Crowder over 9 million per season after recording 29 catches for 388 yards last season. They didn't draft a WR either.
If you're not listening to Joe Benigno in times like this,
Had a very good offseason: got Leveon Bell and CJ Mosley and drafted Quennen Williams at 3, not to mention last years draft of Sam Darnold . Jets are just fcukin dumb

Gase absolutely did not want to sign LeVeon Bell, per sources. In fact, he made it clear that he didnt want to spend a lot of money on any running back.

Just months after NFLN Draft Analyst Mike Mayock took the Raiders GM job, his replacement Daniel Jeremiah is under serious consideration for a prominent front-office position with the NY Jets, per sources. NFLN Draft Analyst job has become breeding ground for front-office jobs.

Darnold is still TBD, he hasn't shown anything yet to make someone think he's really good. If he is just a journeyman type guy, then last years draft was a disaster for the Jets
but if in fact the coach and GM were at loggerheads and the situation couldn't be mediated then they had to fire one or the other. Timing is bad but the Panthers fired Gettleman at a similar point in time a few years ago and went on to have a good season.

Fairly sure that DG was fired b/c of the sexual predator Richardson, not b/c of the head coach.

It's a completely different situation. The GM had built the team with players that the head coach wanted. And the head coach had been there for six years - and went to the Super Bowl in one of those years.

will probably have to pick his GM because what I've heard is that he's extremely difficult to get along with. Burned bridges in Miami and was trying to hardline Maccagnan from Day 1.
From what I've heard, it wasn't so much a power struggle as it was Gase making a lot of demands. Supposedly, before the draft, Mac and Gase got together to strategize and Gase walked out early and reportedly said "You'll pick the guys I tell you to" and alluded to Mac being gone soon.
there are probably millions of fans in the truth state area alone that are convinced that the jets are on an absolute lock paved in gold track while the giants are an absolute train wreck. Why? Because one team took a rb last April while the other one took a qb. And it just spiraled from there. Im not even trying to prop the giants up, they still need a lot of shit to go right with these kids developing but the jets....... THE JETS!!! I can take some shit but the jets.... That i cant take.
We complain about shurmur? Theres no doubt that shurmur can and will get the most out of a qb. Hes produced winning nfl offense on more than one occasion as OC with not exactly stellar talent. Gase?? Great he has a slightly under 500 record as HC. Wooopy hes won more games as HC than shurmur. Im sure hed suck ass too if he coached cleveland like shurmur did. Gase was mediocre as OC prior to that. Now hes orchestrating an nfl coup. Enjoy it jets fans.
I agree with what Joe is saying, Gase hasn't won anything. I don't think Gase is wrong for thinking they over paid for players like Bell and Mosley. He's right there.
On the flip side though Maccagnan deserved to be fired. You hire someone and within the first few months, you can't get along with him and he's your hire!?! It had to be done right away. Stop the bleeding now.

Coach Red has darnold on the brain so much he must have to pay rent.
Three years as relatively low profile and suddenly, with Gase on the scene and looking to stir s..t, it's McC the a-hole? What is the basis for this take?
Especially when Gase is the one with the 'hard to deal with' rep.
it seemed to me, as Metro area Giants fan, can't help but see and feel the Jets' coverage in the media. MacCagnan and Bowles were about as low profile a GM/HC tandem as the NFL had.
That's where I just heard it and started the thread. Joe just said, I'm done for the day, i'm going to play golf.
Good luck finding a new GM this late in the offseason. I expect several candidates to turn them down.

One disagreement between Adam Gase and Mike Maccagnan/Christopher Johnson...
Gase absolutely did not want to sign LeVeon Bell, per sources. In fact, he made it clear that he didnt want to spend a lot of money on any running back.
Weren't we just eviscerating that Mehta guy for stating that one team wanted to try Daniel Jones out at TE?

As usual a simple minded and gullible analysis from someone who easily falls for the bbi-espn narrative. Why would the jets fire someone who drafted their messiah Darnold and his qb whisperer lol
