Not unlike Noah's Ark, we've got 2 of everything yet almost everything is terrible.
NYG: Losses have piled up in recent seasons. Putting a bow on and wrapping up the Manning era has been unsmooth at best with the Jones pick being...shall we say, not well received. Add the OBJ situation and unpopular trade...
NYJ: Endless losing, the whole Rex Ryan era including the butt fumble and now today.
NYK: Too long a list to attempt a summary.
BN: Nice run at a modicum of respectability this year but nobody cares since upside is limited and they have no fans.
Obviously, the city's hockey and NYM fortunes haven't been much better.
However, looking at it as a glass half full....Yanks are winners, Mets were in the WS a few years back, Giants have two super bowls since 2008, the Islanders won the division and swept the Penguins, The Devils and Rangers had the top picks.
Things will get better!!!!

The did experience some brief Giants heartache, but they've long gotten over that. Several times over.
All they know is they beg for a day off from school to go to a parade a couple times a year or every other year. My wife took my kids to the Patriots and Red Sox parades this past year (and they'd been to others) and they're already trying to figure out the date for the Bruins parade to see if school will already be out.
It's miserable living here as a non-fan.

My oldest kids were 5 in 2007, I'm sure they carry that loss with them to this day. My youngest was just born. 2011 they were 9 and 4. trust me, they're over it.

LOL, I felt that way initially, but my kids are the ones going to parades and wearing championship t-shirts.

I talked to a lot of people about this actually and it's not uncommon when you relocate to a different area than where you grew up for your children to grow to like the local teams.
I didn't push it, because I didn't care that much who they liked.
I could never change what teams I like, but I feel like I'd have failed as a parent if I let my kids become Mets fans, or Knicks fans (though I am mot a Knicks fan) more than pick the local teams.
I never felt the slightest desire to switch to the local teams. Granted, they weren't that local - DC is a couple of hours away.
You can't make anyone a fan of a certain team if they don't want to be, I suppose, but I'd be motherfucking goddamned if I would ever allow cheering for a rival under my roof.

I never felt the desire to switch teams and I moved to DC and then to Boston, but my kids grew up in Boston, didn't relocate here. It's harder when their only connection to the teams I like is their father (and their mother was always a fan of the local teams as are their friends - not a "pick hat nation" fan, but a real fan).
So, it's different.
And at the end of the day, there are a lot more important things in life to me than who they root for.
Both my twins did wear pink Eli Manning jerseys to school on Tom Brady day in the Friday before the Super Bowl in 2012. But they were still just 9 years old.
and the only rival team my kids root for is the Bruins. Which I hate, but I met my wife over Bruins Canadiens in 1993, "read it and sweep" (Bruins swept by the Sabres then habs swept Sabres) on the way to Canadiens last (holy shit has it been that long)? Stanley Cup.
So you're lucky.
When I moved to Boston it was loserville. It was awesome. I could walk up and get tickets at Fenway and while I hate the Red Sox only slightly less than the Braves, Phillies and Nats, I love Fenway.
I'd go to games in Foxborough all the time when the Giants didn't have a conflict.
The Bruins were competitive, but on a massive title drought.
It was sports bliss for me.
And it all came crashing down.
Once they became city of champions if your kids lived here from birth it would be cruel to force them to be fans of non local teams IMO just because you liked them.
Even though I did pretty much just that until they were old enough to think for the themselves.
Anyway, the original point was they don't consider the Canadiens, Yankees, Lakers, Celtics, or any other teams to be perennial or frequent winners. Besides the Patriots and Red Sox.

I hate the Skins, Caps, and O's as much as anybody...oddly I like the Nats, Wizards, and Ravens...but that's because I hate the other team and would rather they get the attention.
