As much as it sucks, it's the right call.
Dave in Hoboken : 5/15/2019 8:37 pm : link
He just didn't look right...or like himself at all since he came back. I give him credit for trying, though. Tough kid.

Come back when he's 100% healed better than ever.

And third base no less. Maybe he won't be messing around on third base in the future.
It sucks but itís for the best

take the proper time and come back strong in 2020. I think 3B will be held done just fine for the year. Didi coming back will be huge as far as keeping the infield depth fresh.
Yeah, he just wasn't swinging

Reminded me of Jeter. Sucks for the kid but probably best in the long run, and I give him credit for giving it a go this year.

He tried but it was pretty clear he wasn't he same. I thought his throwing would be where the problem would be but it obviously affected his swings too.
Manny Machado who?
Giantsfan79 : 5/15/2019 9:13 pm : link
a perfect example of why you sign as many good players as you can and deal with the depth chart later.
I wouldn't have even thought of connecting Manny to this
adamg : 5/15/2019 9:15 pm : link
but good for you to make that connection...

I tore my rotator cuff the exact same way diving back into first base on an overrun. Knew what he did as soon as it happened. Never had surgery. Still canít throw right.

I cannot tell if you are saying we really should have signed Machado. If so, this completely kills your argument. If we got Machado we wouldn't have signed all the other players like LeMahieu. The Yanks were always going over the soft cap but not over the largest luxury tax threshold. It was basically Machado or a bunch of other guys. The guys we have gotten have helped us survive these injuries.
yeah - I know Machado is a good player but
Del Shofner : 5/15/2019 9:41 pm : link
I'm happy with the players we have. Even with Andujar hurt, Urshela and DJLM have been more than sufficient at 3B. 3B is not our problem at all. We need an outfielder or two back, and a starting pitcher or two.
another lost season
RasputinPrime : 5/15/2019 9:48 pm : link
for an excellent player. This has been a shitty season for Yankees fans who wanted to sit back and enjoy their favorite players.

Or it has been a excellent season for developing players, finding how to win under duress, building the organization for the future. They are getting to see some of their upper level guys perform, put them on tape for the scouts to see and perhaps package a player or two for some starting pitching. Aaron Boone is managing a team decimated by injuries and holding together an AAAA team against some of the best teams in baseball and beating them. He is in development, too.
Cash is not panicking and they keep on winning. I don't think it is smoke and mirrors, at least I don't think it is. I like how he seized the 1st game and tried not to save the BP for the second game and was still able to use some of it in the second game.
(I can see he does not quite trust Green yet since he did not use him in a high leverage slot today - sending German out for the 7th while warming up Cessa.)
On a different note. Is Glayber Torres the best trade Cashman has
Dave in Buffalo : 5/16/2019 6:41 am : link
ever done? He's only 22 years old and already a stud with his best, and better, years ahead of him, likely! And what did Cashman give up? Nothing! He's made other trades for guys that have blossomed but this was different. Those, like Didi, Luke, Urshela, and possibly German, were more like lottery tickets. Never had high expectations, but hope for some and others just for added depth. But with Glayber, Cash wanted him and looked at him as a guy who may very well be a stud in a few years. The organization had wanted him bad when he was an international. He was no secret, the Cubs knew they had an excellent prospect but gave him up anyway.

Great post.

I have been very surprised how much I have loved the past 3 seasons.
Have to agree

The past couple of seasons have been amazing to see. This team is built for long periods of success- and the message has been sent to the minor league guys that if they perform, you will get a chance.

What has also impressed me is that they have made few mistakes in building and trading. I think maybe Caleb Smith is the only one I would want a Mulligan for. That's not a bad percentage.

I would have liked Manny here, but I get the decision was depth throughout the team or Manny. Right now, it looks like they made a good choice.

It's fun to see this team and realize that you no longer have to worry about everyone getting old and replacing them each winter. There's a long term core of guys.
Me too....

I'd lost interest in the final bloated years with albatross contracts. The past three years with this youth movement has been awesome to watch. I'm much more interested and having fun watching, particularly this season with all the injury drama. As mentioned, I still miss seeing Judge and the other youngsters play, but Watching German (8 and freakng 1 on 16 May!), Estrada, and all these guys contribute has been awesome. I mentioned to my wife that sooner or later these guys have GOT to return to the mean, but for now it's fun to watch. Hopefully they can keep it up. Who knows when Stanton, Judge, and the others will be back or if they'll be effective when they do return. It's going to be an interesting summer.
I give..

At least you didn't blame strength and conditioning people for an injury diving back to the bag

weak
Andujar

Have not been a big fan of his play at 3rd base, but hope very much that his surgery and recovery go well -- and look forward to getting him back in the lineup in completely restored condition. Tough event for a promising young player.

When he's healthy I hope they send him to Scranton to learn first base. I think his best use would be as principal DH while backing up at third and first.

I agree, was thinking about that myself. 3B is just such a key position defensively and we have good options there in DJLM (once Didi's back) and Urshela.
