With all the rain that we have gotten the last week, the course is in tremendous condition. Some good pairings for the Thursday/Friday groups.

Course is definitely going to be tough and much like the Barclays and previous US Opens, don't expect to see many low scores.

Some notable tee times
figgy2989 : 5/16/2019 6:57 am : link
8:02 AM: Rickie, Bubba, Rose
8:24 AM: Tiger, Koepka, Molinari
1:38 PM: Rory, Phil, Day

Tiger starting on back nine Thursday, if the pin placements are favorable, he can easily look for eagle/birdie on 13 and go right after the stick on the short par 3 14 before crossing round swamp road to the toughest stretch of the course (15 through 18).
15 is such a wonderful hole

there has been so much rain. I wonder how thick the ruff will be

figgy2989 : 5/16/2019 7:05 am : link
The rough isn't as thick as I thought it was going to be and the talk was they weren't going to let it get higher than 3.5", but with overnight rain, I bet they aren't even going to cut it today or tomorrow.
Be prepared for a lot of bitching about the course this week
GiantGolfer : 5/16/2019 7:07 am : link
from players. Itís gonna play even longer than its supposed to. Half the field will have no shot to win this.

Koepka licking his chops again.

They added a shit ton of fairway bunkers to 18, expanded many of the fairways, but they are still narrow as hell. Keep an eye on the par 3 3rd hole, depending on the pin, it is going to play about 240. I was shocked at how many golfers came up short on that hole during the practice rounds. Most of them clubbed up after their first shot.

Like you said, 15 is the best hole on the course and the green elevation is going to make or break the round for some guys.

GiantGolfer, I am not too sure about that. Many of the top guys have commented that the course is definitely more "fair" than 2009. But you are right, come Saturday, they could change their tune real quick.

Overnight rain is going to effect the shorter hitters today, they aren't going to get shit for rolls on the fairways.
Any BBIers going?

Marshaling the 14th. Actually had to come to work today to get some work done, but will be there tomorrow and Friday.

You are going to have a blast. If you want to avoid the big crowds and see some great golf, head across round swamp towards holes 6,7,8. The majority are just going to stay on the one side by 1 and 15-18.

18th isnít a great finishing hole
Joey from GlenCove : 5/16/2019 7:56 am : link
I heard once that they were going to use the REds 18 as the the final hole during 2009

Was that true?

I believe you mean Red 1 (which runs parallel to Black 18) and there were definitely discussions because of the complaints from 2002. There is definitely improvements on 18 and will be a great finishing hole this week. You better hit it on the fairway or you will have no shot at hitting the green in regulation.

Aside from the errant Tee shot on 15, he has not faced any trouble today.

Tiger starting to feel it.

This is the first year with the new format.

April - Masters
May - PGA
June - US Open
July - British

I like it much more this way. Having the PGA last always made it feel a bit anti-climatic.

But then golf is basically over in July for most tv fans. Not many people care about the FedEx tour and those playoffs etc. I think the longer they string out the majors over the summer, the better it is for golf.

they want to finish before football starts
Brooks is putting on a clinic
figgy2989 : 5/16/2019 12:33 pm : link
He is -6 and could easily be -8 if he didn't miss a few short putts.

Danny Kanell : 5/16/2019 12:43 pm : link
Is the course record 64? If so, he needs one more birdie to break it.
The Black is the only course
Ron Johnson : 5/16/2019 1:06 pm : link
I've ever played that the pros play tournaments on. That someone can play it at -6 just seems miraculous to me.
So freaking difficult. Driver, five wood, wedge, on more than half the holes.

Yep, before the FedEx Cup was created the PGA Championship essentially ended the golf season in late August. Like it or not, FedEx and the PGA don't want their playoffs buried every weekend by College Football and the NFL.

May also brings different conditions to the PGA besides the usual 95 degrees with 98% humidity and 100% chance of thunderstorms suspending play virtually everywhere in the country in August.

during these majors. His confidence level when the field gears up for the big tourneys is off the charts. Rolled in some long putts on Thursday.

Typically guys don't follow up a 63 with a stellar round but lets see if he continues to separate from the pack today...

I love rooting for Koepka, but I am kind of hoping he goes out and shoots like a 73 so that there is some intrigue this weekend.
