Lets talk Love...shall we?

superspynyg : 5/16/2019 10:58 am
I know its been discussed but I cant stop talking about this kid. I think we got the steal of the draft with him. I watched him for years at ND and he is worth gushing over. I know we picked Baker rd 1 but this kid could be very special. To get him in rd 4??? AWESOME!!!! To the other teams that passed on him in rd 2 and 3...SUCKERS!!!!!

Plus this kid is a real team player. CB...FS he can play where ever he is needed. If Baker and Beal work out to be good starting cbs then we can use him at FS.

Good in man or zone...Breaks up passes with ease..

Needless to say I will be watching him very close in his first camp. We got a baller with this kid.

here is his draft profile...Higlights to come..

Steal o’ the draft

I tapped out day 2 since we only picked late 3rd ... when he was announced early day 3 I was shocked

I assumed he’d go during the early round 2 CB run ... Love and Connelly were a great way to start day 3

Slot CB/FS and eventual Bethea replacement @ FS
"All you need is Love" da da da da da

Ha Ha.....Really looking forward to our new set of athletic DB's. There will be growing pains, but you can question the athletes signed and drafted by DG in our defensive backfield.
Ugh...."Can't"

I was just thinking, why did we draft Baker and Ballantine because all we needed is Love.
in watching his highlights after the draft...
Rory B. Bellows : 5/16/2019 11:31 am : link
I know they were highlights, but there were just SO DAMN MANY pass breakups in them.

After awhile, I was just like, man, this dude is always in the right spot!
We've become more Patriotsy in our player aquisition
Coach Red Beaulieu : 5/16/2019 11:45 am : link
Can't help but think of Devin McCourty.
What I read about him is that he has very good cover skills, is better
Ira : 5/16/2019 11:49 am : link
in man than zone (which is probably what Bettcher wants) and needs to get stronger. It's great getting a 2nd round talent in the 4th round.
Highest hopes I've had for a draft since 85.

Starters. I see starters... everywhere.

How so? McCourty was a first round pick, Love was a 4th. Not seeing the player acquisition connection.

He was my favorite pick
Jay on the Island : 5/16/2019 11:51 am : link
in terms of value. I still cant believe that he fell to the 4th round. He will likely serve as the nickelback this year with a chance to replace Jenkins next year. He might also be a candidate to move to FS next year. He will receive a lot of playing time this season regardless.

I expect the 2020 Secondary to be:

Love & Peppers at S
Beal & Baker outside CB
Ballentine/Haley @ Slot

Lots o’ young/talent/potential

A low 1st rounder. Neither were combine freaks, more cerebral CBs who are versatile enough to plug into to FS. If Love ran under 4.5 40 he would have been a 1st rounder.

Good call ... in Bettcher’s scheme they’ll likely play a couple different roles ... he’s had formations with like 4-5 “safeties” on the field in the past

Love both of these players ... pun not intended but sort of
I'll use a Mayockism to describe Love.
Klaatu : 5/16/2019 12:20 pm : link
"He's quicker than fast." Also, as I recall, Dave-Te' Thomas was talking about the Combine, the "Underwear Olympics," and how some guys run fast in shorts, but not so fast with pads on. Track speed vs. play speed. Love strikes me as a guy who won't suffer from a lack of play speed. Add to that the "high football IQ" and the "ball skills" that every analyst mentions about him, and it's hard not to think that he was a steal in the 4th Round.
Lost in all the discussion/ focus/over
BSIMatt : 5/16/2019 12:22 pm : link
Analysis of Daniel Jones is that it looks like the Giants could have landed another stellar class. I think the first 4-5 picks(setting Jones aside as that’s a special situation) all have a great chance to impact the team. Love is a baller, very excited about the potential for the Giants secondary, the depth and talent is there.

Totally agree with the Jones comment. All the talking heads giving the Giants a bad grade for this draft based on DJ when the rest of the class looks so promising. There is never any guarantee on any pick but for crying out loud anything I read and hear about the other picks is very promising and none were reaches Love for example was a steal and you gotta love the Baker pick. Xman may not contribute much this year beyond specials but looks like he's going to be worth his spot too.
Well

Because of our draft
5BowlsSoon : 5/16/2019 1:12 pm : link
We should not be blaming the secondary too much for giving up all those 3rd and longs that are converted for first downs.

I believe next year we may have the best secondary in the Nfl.

Lawrence & Hill
Golden, Ogletree, Peppers, Carter
Jenkins Baker Beal Love Bethea

could be a fun personnel grouping like the photo linked

Looks good on paper,
RollBlue : 5/16/2019 4:29 pm : link
let's see how they actually play on Sunday. I remember people being excited that Prince A fell to our 19th pick some years ago. Decent player who the "experts" had as a top 10 pick.
In regards last years draft, we got Barkley with pick number 2 - never drafted that high before. Hernandez could be a solid LG, no one else has proven anything, Hill maybe... Lauletta looks like a wasted high 4th rounder so far.

Hill was better than maybe. He seems like the real deal.

Love...exciting and new.
Plays CB. Can play Safety, too.
And Love...fell to the 4th Round.
What a break. He was still around!

The Giants...drafted a whole new crop of CB's.
First Baker. And Ballantine who they picked, Day 3.

In between they got lucky and Love was still on the board.
And Love...can play in the slot.
A Swiss Army Knife...that's what Bettcher's got.

It's Lovoooooove!
Go get the ball, it's Loooooooove!

slot? outside corner? safety?

The '85 draft gave us one starter, Bavaro.
Love seems perfect for the slot
