I realize that this has been done before and that some Giants fans root for teams in other cities (which I don't understand) but let's give it another shot.
Mine:
Giants
Mets
Knicks
Rangers
Over the last 2 full seasons for each, they are collectively 267-394 .403%.
It's been painful for these 4; not much to cheer about with the highlight probably being JdG winning the Cy Young. {sigh}
New York Rangers
New York Knicks
Knicks
Rangers
Yankees
Carolina Hurricanes (was actually never a hockey fan until I moved to NC)
Used to be into the NBA but don't really care anymore.
Mets
Knicks
Devils (Not NY I know)
Mets
Nets
Devils
Knicks
NYCFC
Passively:
Yanks
Rangers
-Rover
Mets
Knicks
Devils (Not NY I know)
same.
Mets
Canadiens
Celtics
grew up in New Haven, not NY, in the 80's.
Yankees
Knicks
Rangers
New York Yankees
New York Knicks
New York Islanders
Knicks
Islanders
Third generation for all teams.
Mets
Knicks
Islanders
Living outside the NY area, where the locals often dump on NY teams, I will root for the Yankees, Nets or Rangers if they are not playing against my primary teams. I would find it hard to root for the Jets, unless they were playing in a Super Bowl against Dallas, Washington, Philly, Packers or 49ers.
Yankees
Devils
Knicks
Nets
In that order.
My other pro sports are the Nationals and the Wizards.
Not really a hockey fan.
Knicks
Devils
Its also really hard to follow east coast basketball and hockey teams being on the west coast; baseball and football are way easier.
That's just one way; for people who live in the NYC metro area, an out of town team could have been forced on them by their parents, etc.
This
At 10 yrs old them and Yanks were the only ones on TV in NW Connecticut. Carl Yastremski in '68
And Boston Bruins with Bobby Orr in '70
Rangers
Yankees
Syracuse basketball too if that counts.
Yankees
Islanders
Nets
In that order
Rangers
MLB - Cincinnati Reds fan. My Dad was a lifetime Reds’ fan and I’ve followed suit.
Rangers
This.
Although I have to admit that I don't follow the Rangers closely any more. And I do follow St Johns' hoops for no valid reason other than a hope that the glory days of the Big East will some day return to NYC.
I guess I root for the Cubs in baseball because my brother in law is a diehard. NC men's hoops & ND football too obviously.

'67.
That hand is called a royal flush, and I am all in!
Otherwise it would be Sox and Celts. Bruins as a child (also the Bobby Orr days) but I haven't watched or followed hockey in forever.
I swear that my town growing up (Bristol, almost mostly pre-ESPN days) was the NY/NE sports dividing line. The split in rooting interest was pretty 50-50. I also had the additional bias of my mom's roots were staunchly New England (generational born and bred Vermonters).

Fair enough
Rangers all the time, but if Islanders and Devils are on playoff run....i jump on.
Knivks and went to St.Johns
So it wasn't really a choosing process, I just followed the teams that existed in NY when I was a little kid: Giants-Yanks-Knicks-Rangers.
Giants
Mets
Gave up on the NBA a few years ago so used to root for Knicks

It's not quite the same but people here always ask how Red Sox/Celtics fans can get on BBI. The reason is that, during our formative years, there was no New England NFL team. There was the Boston Patriots but they were AFL, which back then might have been the XFL. So, the Giants actually were our local/regional team.
