The Heath Ledger pick may have gotten shit, but he also wasn’t cast as a lead in a tween movie series about vampires.

No way, Ledger is the best Joker. Nicholson was terrific, but he was basically playing himself with face paint on. The Dark Knight was a superior film and Ledger was the better Joker. Agree to disagree. And I’m a big fan of Nicholson btw, his performance in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s nest was outstanding in addition to The Shining, etc.
At this point, I think they’re just making up super heroes so they can have an excuse for another CGI laden, 2 hour fight and explosion scene. That way, it translate beautifully to other languages so a couple of billion dopes from other countries can enjoy mindless entertainment too.
Today’s music and movies are proof that people are happy with kindergarten level entertainment.
Now get off my lawn!
I get a kick out of the indignity and outrage on these threads Â
Mainstream blockbusters may be largely unoriginal but there are still excellent movies being made. Much like what the internet did for music, Id argue there are more good movies out now than at any time in history. You just have to be willing to look for them. Watch anything by Jeremy Saulnier, especially Blue Ruin, or a movie like Whiplash, and tell me no one is making good movies anymore.
Second, while you can certainly rage against the huge number of comic book movies i think its worth pointing out that if any genre is set up for multiple reboots and mediums (show vs feature film, animated, CGI, and live action) its comics. Every major character has had multiple reboots, alternate timelines, retconned histories, etc etc. If you love the character and accept the entertainment for what it is I think you can enjoy them. If not, whatever. Thats the amazing thing, we can still actually choose what to watxh. Even if we are compelled by a higher calling to bitch and moan.
I'm tired of people complaining about too many superhero movies Â
If you don’t like them, don’t watch them. Same goes for remakes and sequels, the most hyped up movies for this summer are remakes of Aladdin and the Lion King, a new Toy Story movie, Spider-Man, Godzilla. Studios don’t like taking risks when it comes to big budget films.
This idea that other projects aren’t being made is ridiculous though. There are more new movies coming out every week than ever, they just happen to be released on streaming services now rather than at the theater. The “original” movies are released on Netflix, Hulu, Prime, etc.
Agreed, complaining about it is lazy. So many good movies being made, many at the tip of your fingers. Blockbusters exist because they are what makes studios money. The industry is evolving, studios are starting to get cut out with the surge of independent movies.
That said, this project sounds hilarious. Vamp Man!
There were nine superhero movies released last year. Nine.
There were hundreds of movies released in 2018 that had no superheroes whatsoever.
Three would have been too many. It's getting ridiculous.
All Hollywood produces now is mindless action flicks, I assume due to concern about the international market and the dearth of new ideas. Throw in all of the reboots, sequels, prequels, remakes, etc. and it's just appalling.
"But people are still going to the movies....blah, blah, blah." Yeah, it's because the the under 40-50 crowd doesn't know any better.
Same lack of artistic excellence is appearing in other fields too, like music. Bland and monotonous. Everything sounds the same with a few exceptions.
The Dark Knight was one of the most overrated movies of all time. Â
As for this new Batman, I don't mind Pattinson in the role as long as he's got a good story to work with. I just hope they don't go the SJW route like the CW is with their new Batwoman series.
There may be lots of good movies made apart from the big.... Â
blockbuster super hero crap, but a tiny portion of the movie going public goes to see them. The super hero crap and the reboots make all the money because people are too dumb to commit to seeing the quality movies. People want crap and they get shovels full of it from Hollywood.
They spend all of their marketing money on the crap. Â

waaaaaaa the biggest movies of all time are Super hero movies waaaaaa.... i want more artsy movies... waaaa
come on boss. 9 super hero movies... but then there are the dumb original movies that can't generate dick. sorry but i will take a good super hero story than a fucking movie so overrated like "A Star Is Born"
With few exceptions, Hollywood produces crap across the board now. Much of it has to do with an over-dependence on the international market now so there has to be a de-emphasis on those things that would seem "odd" in foreign markets. Also, since the investment in a movie is so huge, they have become very risk-adverse.
So they try to wow you with explosions and a heavy dose of CGI, the quality of the latter also seems to be getting worse.
It's also interesting to note that there appears to be a growing interest in old music and old movies by younger people today. What does that tell you?
Every now and then someone in my family finds a gem. But damn it is a rarity now.
The first "Superman" movie (1978) was great. So were the first Batman (1989) and Spiderman (2002) movies. But how many sequels and reboots are enough? C'mon. These movies don't even seem special anymore.

Maybe not to you, but to the legions of comic book fans, they're as "special" as the next issue of their favorite comic book.

What would a non SJW batwoman series look like? Batwoman taking care of the bat kids while batman brings home the bacon? Or she fights crime in bat-lingerie? Really confusing comment.
To say these aren't special anymore is just wrong Â
How many times on this board have we read about people having a special moment with their father or son watching a Giants game together?
Well my dad isn't a sports fan, but him and I have read comics together since I was born. We have sat next to each other to see every Marvel movie for the past 11 years and we both cherish each moment of it. We love the movies and we love how big of a universe they have created.
I only tell this story to generally say, don't piss on someone else's Cheerios. Just as other people don't get why people love sports and we get annoyed when they disparage it, don't do that to others who are enjoying their entertainment. How would people feel if someone said "There have been 100 NFL seasons, we don't need anymore"
We are living in a golden age of nearly unlimited content. If you don't like something, watch something else

A non-SJW Batwoman series would look a lot like DC's very successful Wonder Woman movie, and less like the uber-woke Supergirl series, whose ratings have been plummeting for three years now. Batwoman is DOA.

Hmm, I watched Flash and Arrow but stopped recently. I haven't watched Supergirl, aside from the crossover events. I did see the new batwoman in the flash event they had and boy, it seemed really shitty mainly because they picked a terrible actress. I guess I just don't know what was SJW about it. And I don't know enough about the differences between Wonder Woman movie and the Supergirl show to understand the distinction you're trying to make.
I think you are wrong here, we've had this discussion many times. This is a simple formula that Hollywood isn't able to adapt to any other way. Tons of fantastic content exist in streaming format, so people are watching better movies at home. The cost for these smaller budget movies to be put in theaters makes it almost impossible to fund. So "Hollywood" has no choice but to pump out blockbusters to turn profits.
Hollywood has plenty of new ideas, they are just tremendously risky to make due costs.
The first "Superman" movie (1978) was great. So were the first Batman (1989) and Spiderman (2002) movies. But how many sequels and reboots are enough? C'mon. These movies don't even seem special anymore.
because of money. There is money to be made my friend. Its business.
You think a business person would just buy a property like Marvel and not milk it dry. you should know better.
Again, fantastic four was a shitty franchise. But if you gave me a good story for a super hero movie, i will be happy.

They've already crippled the comic book side of the industry, and I guess they won't be happy until the movie and TV sides are crippled, too. They're force-feeding their most loyal fans characters, themes, and story lines that just won't sell, and every time they get rejected, they try a reboot, a re-packaging, with the same predictable results. The industry is sewing the seeds of its own destruction.
Because weirdo land (Hollywood) doesn't have any other fresh ideas
Yeah. They really, really are.
I think Robert Pattinson is a good actor but, I just don’t see him as Batman. Bruce Wayne maybe. But not Batman.

God I used to love an occasional comic book movie. But man the last decade had killed that w all the shows and movies.
Though it has made me find a new appreciation to the retro comics pre-2000’s w the more simple plots.

Michael Myers is my superhero.
If the movie is based on a best-selling or award-winning novel, it has a chance to be a good movie.
If the movie is based on a comic book, it is most likely re-worked and over-hyped. "The JPP of movies."

Hits the nail on the Coffin? Look, it's not rocket surgery or brain science, but it definitely hits the nail on the coffin. :-)
And nine is a ridiculous amount, especially after many years at that frequency.
Is 90 superhero movies over 10 years a reasonable amount?
