Tight end Evan Engram has been impressed with Jones and provided some glowing remarks on how quickly the signal-caller has acclimated. "He's picking up [the offense] really fast," Engram said Thursday night during a celebrity softball game at Yankee Stadium, via Matt Lombardo of NJ.com . "They've been trying to throw some stuff at him and he's handled it really well." |
I'm sure you quite svelte yourself, dickhead.
Why do you wonder that?
Why don't you go to your skins boards and find out.
They gush about him at least once an hour on sports radio here in the DMV.

What do they like and say about disgusting fatbody?
Man, show some class.
He's a Simo dupe - why waste your time?
At least, unlike Webb, it's not Jones himself screaming that from the rooftops.
I personally don't think the competition is really open - unless Eli has significantly regressed, it's his job to lose. So if they exit camp with Jones having performed slightly better, I don't see there's any way he's getting snaps in week 1.
How big would the gap between the two have to be to give Jones a shot at starting wk1, given Eli's experience and reputation with the team?
Kids always have to go above and beyond to displace vets, at least at the start of the year.
Eli is the starter
SO, not an open competition but it's not entrenching Eli either.

Is he really? I can never tell.
Eli is the starter
I'll admit I haven't been following as closely as in the past due to work, but I thought I read that they were going to compete. If anything, it makes more sense to just outright kill that from the start to reduce expectations on Jones.

Pretty sure it's Dummy in Dumbville.

in fact they said the complete opposite

Yeah, the first remarks after he was drafted were Eli is the starter.
It was literally the first thing they said.
SO, not an open competition but it's not entrenching Eli either.
Shurmur’s basically said this, in combination with Shula flat out saying they are fast tracking his (Jones) development to the point of him being “ready” week 1 ... Eli is going to need to play well to keep his job

Jones might pick up the offense faster than any QB in the history of the league, but still not approach Eli's mental side with 15 years' experience. C'mon now...
Unless Eli and the team stink it up Eli's starting all year.
Eli hasn’t treated preseason as anything more than a tune-up for over a decade. The staff knows what he can and can’t do. To the extent there’s a decision to be made, it’s about Jones and his progress, not some silly competition based on a few series in exhibition games, with shuffled lineups, crappy blocking and receivers still learning the playbook.

On point post BBB.

IMO, there aren't enough camp/preseason snaps for Jones to earn the start over Eli. At best Jones will get a couple series with the 1s in each of the 2nd/3rd preseason games. Maybe if Jones leads them to TDs on every drive and Eli looks bad...
See if Engram gets a Christmas Card from the Manning family.
(:-)
Great point. Not like Engram was 1 of the most improved players in the league, and graded as 2nd best TE, in the 2nd half of the season once healthy
Engram ... is good - ( New Window )
The screams will only get louder after Jones first scramble
I also enjoyed the 70+ yards a game he put up in December and direct observations I made to form my own original thoughts
Half day at school today? Missed you, feel free to contribute something to the conversation. You’ve got the internet name calling down pat. Happy Friday!

What is a Simo dupe btw?
I think he'll be similar to Eli, but won't make *quite as many* great throws downfield as we saw from Eli in his prime. That said, he will make more plays with his legs than Eli ever did, so that will help.
I honestly don't understand how anyone thinks Eli doesn't get in the Hall SOMEDAY. He's top 10 in like every all-time passing category and has 2 SB MVPs against the greatest sports dynasty of all-time. Joe freakin' Namath is in the Hall for chrissakes.
Nice to hear this stuff but let's not get too excited about it either way.

Hey, thanks for posting! I hadn't seen that before.
I'm generally pessimistic on the state of the team, but good to see some data showing Engram might be underrated. Thanks!

The exact quote said it was ELis job to "win games and keep Jones on the bench".
My take is that Eli is QB if we are winning and Jones comes into the picture if things go south. Not a competition.
For how frequently he runs his mouth, Tony Romo might be the better comp.

Yes , this is correct.

Imagine this dickhead calling someone else a dickhead. The pot calling the kettle black.
in need of medical assistance accused of name
calling on opposing QB calling him Fatty OMG its
the PC mob again ! How dare he !!!!
I don't recall Engram saying this about Webb in 2017 or Lauletta in 2018.
