The #Giants rebuilt offensive is set to go through the spring without starting LT Nate Solder. Sources tell me and
@MikeGarafolo
that Solder had arthroscopic surgery to clean out his ankle after dealing with bone spurs and thatll be back by training camp. Not considered major.
Maybe they didn't get a final diagnosis until recently?
It's not always convenient to just say take care of this surgically, and early offseason.
On the half-full side, this will give us an opportunity prior to camp to see what the initial backup plan at LT is. That's a pretty big question imo. Wheeler maybe, with Remmers at RT?
No, just to piss you off.
But with bone spurs, I wonder why they decided to wait.

Solder is a pro football player getting paid many millions per year. Besides being on actual vacation for a month after the season, and in fact even during that vacation, at least modestly, doesn't he work out 6 or 7 days per week, 52 weeks a year? How much of a "break" can these guys afford to take?
It should be fine, but theres many a slip between should and is
That said, I've have bone spurs and when they act up I can barely walk. Good move to have them cleared up.

I heard it can keep you out of the military......

Good thing it can't keep you out of The White House.

you got me - now everyone in the office wants to know what's so amusing about the work i am supposedly doing
Even 'minor' surgery I would think would keep him off his feet for 3-6 weeks.

Solder had the surgery yesterday. Offseason program ends June 13.
Key word in that paragraph was he had it done. He could have had it done earlier then everyone is thinking and just rehabbing it now.
Hoping at least 1 of Evan Brown, O'Hagan and AA become a starter. Have a feeling Gettleman is going to find somebody.
...but the Giants haven't exactly put together a young unit that can lead the way for the next 7 - 10 years like they did down in Dallas.
Nate Solder is 31; Mike Remmers is 30; Kevin Zeitler is 29; and even the un-tried Jon Halapio is 28.

Certainly we need to fortify with young talent, but OL playing at a respectable to high level into their mid-30s is far from unusual
But yeah. This didn't grow overnight in the offseason. He could have had this done in January.
But with bone spurs, I wonder why they decided to wait.
This isn't true at all. Nowadays it is usually the first option especially in the offseason. People choose to try other methods to avoid surgeries. Most doctors don't try all other avenues first.

Agreed. Not to mention Remmers is a stopgap who I would wager will be replaced by a 23 year old draft pick next year. Having just a 5 year plan is an improvement over what we've been doing.

How the fuck do you know this? You think they intentionally waited because they wanted to screw themselves?
Giants fans suck.

Him and Francessa. The Pope went off on him for this and it was borderline slander. Said here's a guy who just doesn't want to go to trading camp. Got his money and knows he's the starter so he put this off until now because he can. What is the team gonna do? He said if he was an owner no way guys would get away with this type of thing.
I couldn't believe how much he ripped him and was talking as if he knew it was an older injury that could've been taken care of and not a new injury. It might very well be an older injury but no way he would know that, or if Solder put it off to avoid training camp.

"First option" sort of surprising idea. Of course, it's not my ankle or way of earning a buck. Hope all is well and see no reason not to.
