NFT: Bizarre 80's movie: Flowers in the Attic

FranknWeezer : 5/17/2019 12:03 pm
Watched this on Amazon Prime last night. Vaguely remembered it from back in '87, but since I was only 10 or 11 years old at the time, much of it had been lost on young me.

It's about a family whose father/husband dies, and mom takes the three kids to live with their grandparents in a mansion. She'd been estranged from them for years and they'd never met the kids. Grandfather was dying and didn't even know they'd existed. Mom was penniless and the idea was to have food/shelter for her kids and to get back in her parents' good graces so she could be written back into the will. Suffice it to say that their stay at the estate was off the hook.

There's blood-sucking, whipping, incest, starvation, innuendo, death, etc. all wrapped up in one 80's flick. One that's somehow PG-13. Anyone remember this movie and/or have you caught it on Prime? Love to hear your thoughts. Apparently there was a 2014 adaptation, too.

My wife used to read those books until the overwhelming weirdness made her wave the white flag.
We actually watched that in my English class in High School....

We watched the outsiders in English class after reading the book. i doubt they'd allow that today.
It seems like it's always on Lifetime channel.

There are a few movies I can't turn off (The Warriors, Pulp Fiction, The Good The Bad & The Ugly) Flowers in the Attic is one that my wife can't turn off.
I'm pretty sure my sister had that book
