The 2020 Giants

mittenedman : 5/17/2019 3:56 pm
Pumped for this year, can see the plan unfolding. To me, it looks like the rebuild is almost done. Projecting into next year:

QB - Daniel Jones
RB - Saquon Barkley
FB - Eli Penny
WR - Golden Tate
WR - Sterling Shepard
WR - ???
TE - ???
Hb - Evan Engram
LT - Nate Solder
LG - Will Hernandez
C - Jon Halapio
RG - Kevin Zeitler
RT - ???

LE - R.J. McIntosh
NT - Dexter Lawrence
RE - B.J. Hill
LOLB - Lorenzo Carter, Oshane Ximines
LILB - ???
RILB - Alec Ogletree
ROLB - ???
LCB - DeAndre Baker
slot - Corey Ballentine
RCB - Sam Beal
FS - Julian Love
SS - Jabrill Peppers

To me, Giants are a year away from being a beastly football team with everything in place. Remember, the Giants have a ton of cap space in 2020 and while I'm not advocating a spending spree, they will be in the proper situation to justify spending some $$$ in UFA to fill out the roster and make a run. (Not spending in desperation like 2016 but supplementing a contender like in 2005.)

The Giants are a #1 WR, RT, ILB, ER away from having a complete team. That can all be done in one more offseason given the cap room in particular. I see Gettleman is still taking heat but thinking about the mess he inherited, he's almost completed the next gen Giants, and a window is opening in 2020 with homegrown talent locked up everywhere. Great job turning this around quickly with a team the fans can invest in.

needs another good draft in 2020 needing an ER, Wr and OL.

I would make three off-season signings after this year
CMicks3110 : 5/17/2019 4:19 pm : link
LB-Jaylon Smith/Myles Jack/ShaqThompson/Deion Jones
ER-Ansah/Clowney/Fowler/Ngakoue
OT-Conklin/DarylWiliams

and then go to the draft and get a WR AND another ER, then BPA

our core is young and growing, we don't have to pay *anyone* for at least 2-3 years--so we should be able to spend big bucks next off-season and we also should have at least 9 draft picks, including an additional 3rd.

I'm also in the camp of letting jackrabbit play out his contract, he's still a good player, and despite our depth, can never have enough good players.

Hes still the QB in 2020. He deserves the chance to play regardless of what he shows this season (if he plays at all). Plus, if he stinks, this franchise will let DJ play for at least 3 seasons before admitting that he was a bad pick. Lets hope we dont have to live through that.
what happened to Dalvin Tomlinson?

Pretty sure he'll be starting in front of RJ.

D.J. isn't going to stink!
Need a good LT to replace Solder in a year or two?
nzyme : 5/17/2019 6:01 pm : link
How long do you guys think Solder has before age starts to catch up with him?

Just thinking that by the time his play starts to degrade Daniel Jones will be at an important time in his development. I don't think we can afford a mistake a LT...

What do you mean "before age starts to catch up to him"? It already did. They should be looking to draft a LT next year and slide him to RT for a year before potentially cutting him

RJ Mcintosh is very capable of taking his job at some point

A lot of good OL May be hitting free agency next year ... Daryl Williams/Laell Collins @ RT + some quality Centers potentially

Fix the OL with proven vets and draft Jones a young stud WR early - that class is loaded

I think he will be an average to slightly above average LT for the next two years. The Giants need to draft his replacement next season in case he falls off a cliff next year. My main focus for next season would be to add a pass rusher, WR, and LT.

Before thinking he is gonna stink ...
Seven of those named starters have not yet played their first NFL snap
Big Blue Blogger : 5/17/2019 10:53 pm : link
Not even in preseason. They include the quarterback and six defenders. They arent exactly blue chip prospects, either. Add the six or so positions with nobody named (C, RT, TE, WR3, ILB, OLB) and it looks like a team with a lot of unknowns. Then theres the injury factor, and the possibility that older guys like Solder, Tate, even Zeitler hit the wall.

Not everything will go wrong. We just shouldnt assume more than half of the unknowns will turn out well.
I see you have Halapio at center in 2020.
Big Blue Blogger : 5/17/2019 10:56 pm : link
Fair enough. Hes a restricted free agent. The Giants can retain him at modest cost. The question is whether hes actually any good, and if he is, whether his body will hold up.
Need to focus on
giantstock : 5/18/2019 1:41 am : link
1--s legit Pass rusher

2-- Both a tackle and a center. Onr of them should be all-pro caliber or potentially ALL_pro caliber for the future.

3-- an impact ILB

4-- If this year proves ot be Gemn have decent secondary but don't have a top-tier guy-- pay for one in FA.
-----------
These are all more or a priority than a high pock or expensive FA WR or TE. ***Give Daniel Jones the front line. DOn;t mess around like Reese did in 2016-2017.

you have question marks at 5 of the 25 positions?

The rebuild is far from complete and the nominees are untested.
