NFT: Knicks Fans - Be the GM

This is a fun way to pass the time.

I got them to a 55-27 record. I drafted Morant. Let go of Thomas. Kept both Dotson and Trier. Then I signed Durant, Nikola Vucevic, and Demarcus Cousins.

Not a huge deal

But 2 previous moves will hurt the Knicks this offseason. Noah’s stretched 6.5mill salary and Phil Jackson trading a 2nd round pick to make room for Travis Ware. That 2nd round pick is now the 31st overall pick this year and the 6.5mill would be very helpful when trying to sign 2 and 3 max guys. Thanks Phil Jackson....
58-24

Drafted Barrett. Waived Thomas. Kept Trier and Dotson. Traded supporting cast except for DJ Smith for AD.

Best I can do. I'm done. Thanks, for allowing me the opportunity, to fall behind on my work lol.

If they hadn’t stretched Noah, he’d have counted $19.3M the coming season.
Holy crap!

I swear I was going to start a similar thread this morning so I will incorporate. I’m not as up on the NBA as I used to be but I wanted to put out two scenarios for discussion. These will both “assume” we sign KD and KI.
1. Look to trade for AD but decide the price is too high. I believe Perry and Mills look at everything this way- present and future. This scenario would mean a lineup of KI, Barrett (probably), Knox, Durant and Jordan/Robinson. For the purposes of this discussion I’m not focusing on depth.
2. Trade for AD. Two ways to go with this trade current assets, but keep future draft picks for when Durant and Irving are no longer “stars”. OR, keep as much of the young talent they have now, and trade most of the future picks. I would like opinions.
Also how do you guys seeing Durant and Davis playing together on offense and defense? Is Davis a center or really a power forward? What is Durant? A 3 or 4? The answers would affect whether Robinson or Knox have any place on this roster.
Please discuss.
Did same sequence as my above 58-24

BUT..

without trading for Davis. The record didn't change much. Won 53 instead of 58.
Potential Trade for Davis vs Melo Trade
Samiam : 5/18/2019 5:06 pm : link
I’ve read here that the Knicks should not trade the young guys for Davis and cite the example of the results Melo trade as a prime reason. I am not a Melo fan, never was. I think he was a coach killer and I can’t stand players who don’t play defense. But, the Knicks gave Gallo, Chandler, Felton, Mozgov and a 1st, some seconds and money. I thought then that it would have been smart to wait until Melo became a free agent; he clearly wanted to come here but Dolan panicked. That said, I don’t think any of the players the Kinicks gave up are or were anything special. The problem was neither was Melo. If you think Davis is special, and I do assuming his injury issues are not that serious and none of us have access to medical records. But, if Davis is that good, giving up young players who will never approach what Davis brings to the table is probably a good move.
I got wildly different results.

Had one iteration where I drafted Reddick, no free agents would sign, didn't trade for Davis and ended up with 26 wins. Had another where Reddick went #2, I drafted Morant, signed Durant and Malcolm Brogdon and ended got to 56 wins.

In real life, I'm not that excited about Kyrie (I think he has trouble being the second banana, and trouble fitting in on a team). For no particularly good reason, I prefer Reddick to Morant.

I do not want to pay the price the Pelicans would require for Davis. Especially uninterested in a one-year rental where he can leave in 2020. A sign-and-trade deal would be a little more attractive but even then I wouldn't trade either Morant or Reddick as part of the deal. Knox, Frank and Robinson plus one first-round pick, ok, but not the new kid — and I don't think the Pelicans would take that package.

Who’s Reddick?

One important difference is Carmelo signed a contract extension as part of the deal. Davis apparently will not, and will become a free agent in 2020. As great as he is, it’s an awful lot to give for 1 season of control.
