Mets about to get swept by he worst team in baseball. If they lose today (there's still time, down 1 7th inning), it's the first Marlins sweep since 2017 against? The Mets. And so far 3-5 in this very easy stretch of 15 lol
Cano already dogged it on what he thought was a foul (tho no one else did). Not sure he gets there to prevent the DP but the effort level is amazing, smh. I couldn't speak much about the trade knowing little about him coming in, but man this guy has been awful. Even if the NL gets a DH it seems it's an uphill battle at best
and I got blasted for voicing my observation. I would rather be wrong about it but I haven't been impressed.
I haven't watch all that much of him during his career. Is he streaky? I hope so, because then there is more hope he gets hot for an extended stretch at some point.
Or just follows in Sandy's footsteps and fiddles while Flushing burns.
Cano MUST be benched. He doesn't run out another ball after apologizing for not running out a GIDP.
That's who he is. If he is hitting .300 you put up with it. If he is hitting .240, you bench his ass. Problem is that Mickey is scared of his "star" players.
RE: Earlier in the season I suggested Cano's bat looked a little slow Â

His bat IS slow. Who blasted you?
Blasted may be too strong a word but some people in the game thread seemed to take exception to my saying it. I get it though, early in the season, and people were enthused. I just posted what my eyes saw. No big deal, and I probably shouldn't have brought it back up.
Mets are struggling for offense. So what does Mickey do? Â
Puts in his all-defense team with Lagares, Nido and Hechavarria.
Now those guys are good defenders. But most managers sacrifice some D when the team is struggling to score. Not the other way around. Especially since all three of those guys can't hit a slider from a RHP and Alacantra's best pitch is a slider. Mickey is just not cut out to be a manager.

Probably the same poster who tells us that we need to “let it go” when people complain about the ridiculous Cano deal.
they have to fire Callaway. 2 years in a row ok start and then a complete nose dive. After getting swept by a team looking to contend to be 1 of the historically worst in more than a decade the organization cannot allow things to go any lower. Period.
Backman never gets MLB jobs for a reason so he's a hard pass from me. Riggleman is unexciting. Apparently they like a less experienced guy on the staff but at this point I think throwing someone into this mess as a first time manager would be borderline criminal. Just like the Marlins did with Jack McKeon, I'd bring back Collins to finish out this year. He's got credibility with most of the room, knows all the players, and twice helped them get them to the playoffs over the second half of seasons.
And BVW needs to figure out a way to keep this Cano situation from spiraling out of control. We've talked about the disastrous future risk he setup, no we've got a disastrous present day risk. We already had 1 mercurial, aging, 20m+ underachiever. Can't turn that into 2.
would turn this franchise around which is exactly why they’ll never do it.
I guess we can all expect Riggleman and not much change.
I'd be ok with Girardi. He'd probably have some frustrating "old school" stuff like Collins, but they need someone who can build a better lockerroom. This team is lifeless and has lost the little bit of grit they had in 2015-2016 under Collins.
Another season going down the tubes and it’s not even summer yet. Can’t blame all of this on the manager but he’s the easiest one to change. Girardi is the obvious love but Mets are cheap bastards and will likely just use Rigglemen

The “cold weather” is excuse was always BS. Their offense was clicking at a historic level the first few weeks of the season - which also coincides with the coldest part of the season. It’s just a convenient excuse for people who always think the team is better than they actually play.
imagine how rough it's going to be in three years...
Cano as many of us feared, is a disaster, another aging superstar second basemen comes to the Mets to embarass himself. Where have we seen this before?...

believe that switching coaches or the manager will somehow make this team a contender.
Callaway is nothing more than a sacrificial lamb to buy BVW more time.
Baseball is an individual sport. Stop pretending it's the manager doing something to prevent players from hitting and our CY Young pitcher from being even a decent pitcher this year.
These players just aren't that good.
Oh I see Phi went wild today getting his licks in Â
imagine how rough it's going to be in three years...
Actually 4 years about 750 more games but at least he’s great in the clubhouse ... wait he’s terrible in the clubhouse ....sorry I
Ike the Mets I wished they did a deal with the Yankees ..
and I was wrong that Alonso was a bad HS first baseman .. the big fella has looked good ... nice kid I’m told ....hope he gets ROY
Maz has an OPS of 1.076 in May. He is a lefty catcher, which is ideal for a backup. Love Nido's D but the guy just can't hit.
Let Kay start a game or two and see how it goes. Or use him out of the pen.
Get some young guys up there and create some excitement. If they don't work out, send them back down. Nothing to lose.
But it is important for a GM to be active and help change the dynamic. Of course, it would be great if Mets had a Vlkad Jr to call up. But they don't. So go with what you got.
Rosenthal put the Org on a tee & showed some Pete Alonso exit velo Â
The Mets, in case you’re wondering, do need to make such a move. While Callaway hardly has distinguished himself in his year-plus at the helm, it’s fair to wonder whether any recent first-time manager — Alex Cora, Aaron Boone, Rocco Baldelli, take your pick — would have survived the Mets’ top-down toxicity. It’s also fair to wonder whether the team’s first-time general manager, Brodie Van Wagenen, will survive it long-term.
Callaway still will be the Mets’ manager on Monday, according to published reports, but that only means the countdown to his demise will continue. Maybe he will be fired at the end of the week, the start of next week or at some point after that in the latest installment of “As The Mets Turn.” It’s a never-ending soap opera in which the Wilpons — Fred and his son Jeff, the most prominent members of the team’s ownership group — are the only recurring characters.
Van Wagenen is more to blame for the Mets’ shortcomings than Callaway, but an inherited manager is always the first to go. And if the Mets’ players like Callaway, as some have publicly indicated, they sure have a funny way of showing it. The players all but walked Callaway to the unemployment line with their embarrassing showing in Miami over the weekend. (It would be inaccurate, of course, to say they ran him there, what with all of Robinson Canó’s confusion about the number of outs on the scoreboard and whether his squibblers would roll fair or foul.)
Losing three straight to the major-league worst Marlins, two by shutout, requires an unusual level of submission. Before the series, the Marlins had won only 10 games all season. Their starting pitcher on Sunday, right-hander Sandy Alcantara, was averaging nearly five walks per nine innings and had a 5.11 ERA. The Mets turned him into Greg Maddux, falling in an 89-pitch, two-hitter that took only one hour, 59 minutes to complete.
Mets and Nats begin a 4-game series today at Nats park. You could argue that both teams' managers are in almost the exact same position. Get swept by the opponent and be gone.

Isn't that why he was kept at a distance all these years?
yes - us and the rest of the MLB. He seems like exactly what we don't need. I'm with Rosenthal - just hire a veteran who has some track record of leading winning teams (Girardi or Baker would probably be the most obvious 2 options). It may not work but it'd be something new for a change to bring in a competent winning manager.
A shame that this team couldn't acquire Diaz without him. What a bum.
Cano already dogged it on what he thought was a foul (tho no one else did). Not sure he gets there to prevent the DP but the effort level is amazing, smh. ...and he hits into his 2nd DP inning over
And of course Mickey keeps hitting him third because he has no balls whatsoever.
I haven't watch all that much of him during his career. Is he streaky? I hope so, because then there is more hope he gets hot for an extended stretch at some point.
Callaway is Sandy's manager not BVW - Don't know how he makes it past a Marlins sweep after dropping the final 2 vs the Nats.
Or...
Pathetic.

sometimes you wonder if players are as embarrassed for themselves as the fans are embarrassed for them.

Then we can fully blame the other idiot BVW.
Then fire him
And rinse repeat for all the idiot Wilponzie hires
MLB NEEDS TO FORCE SELL THE TEAM!

Mets need to get a real manger. Stop with the bargain basement guys.
Gerardi . Bochy. Guys who will command respect in the clubhouse. Not these clowns the Wilson’s hire because they work cheap.
Cano as many of us feared, is a disaster, another aging superstar second basemen comes to the Mets to embarass himself. Where have we seen this before?...

Robbie Alomar Part deux

Exactly and meanwhile we couldn't get rid of Jeff Kent fast enough. We didn't need his 380 HR's and 1,500 RBI

It’s truly amazing at how bad you are at predicting ANYTHING related to the Mets. You are a treasure.
Maybe when the weather warms up you’ll start to “hit” on some of your BS also. But knowing your track record, you should grab your blankey.
