Darius Slayton
GothamGiants : 5/20/2019 11:58 am : link
basically doing every single weakness so far since being drafted ... really hope he can turn his drops around - because he's got a ton of athletic ability

"Inconsistent hands and catches back half of the football..Has a high drop rate over last two seasons... Lacks catch readiness to handle the heat...Ball-tracking is a mixed bag on deep balls ... "

not gonna pass judgement on 1 rookie camp and the first OTA - but this is definitely an issue

A decade? Go back 30+ years. I did a few years back and began a thread titled, "The Curse of the 3rd Round."

i meant specifically for this team ... as in, it's literally been a decade since a 3rd rounder has been useful to the Giants.

A sad, sobering reality - prior to Hill, '08 Manningham. Crazy.

I did it for the Giants. No other team. Manningham, Tuck, that was about it. Every other 3rd Round pick either was a bust or had a catastrophic, career-ending injury.

Some Giants injury updates after watching practice + listening to Pat Shurmur:

—CB Corey Ballentine was outside standing + watching practice. Will take time to get back on field after getting shot in backside. I asked Shurmur if training camp was reasonable. “Hopefully sooner.”

RT Mike Remmers (back surgery) worked on the side with a trainer. Be back for training camp “for sure.”

LT Nate Solder not at practice after a cleanup in ankle last week. It “flared up” recently. Be back for training camp.

QB Kyle Lauletta had a “knee cleanup” earlier this offseason. He was at practice but did very little. Should be back soon.

Some other Giants (Dexter Lawrence, Antoine Bethea, Dalvin Tomlinson) not at practice because of travel issues related to weather. #Giants #OTAs

That's for all those whiners bitching about Solder "waiting for so long and not getting the surgery done in January"

First team period for Eli Manning: 1-for-6 with two interceptions. #Giants

Mid season form already.

Jones INT was because he "threw it too hard" ... so it begins ...

Well, the realists did say that arm strength was a red flag!?
Slayton hasn't exactly shown a lot to be confident in

Eli Manning started slowly (threw several passes out of bounds + early INT) but seemed to throw the ball well and w/velocity. Daniel Jones looked like a rookie at times, holding the ball long, but also looked good throwing on a windy afternoon in East Rutherford. #Giants #OTAs

Just checks off everything for bad WR. There's certain innate talents you need to be a good WR, and Slayton has none of it.

I like the pick for the price, but Slayton needs to improve for sure.

Here's what happens when he does catch the ball - could be a steal, but his major weakness is significant.

I thought Jabrill Peppers was one of the more impressive players on the field today at #Giants OTAs. Intercepted the ball tipped by Sam Beal, knocked down another, played some high safety and dropped into the slot a little bit as well. Figure that's a clue for how he'll be used.

Neither Manning or Jones looked particularly sharp today, but I'll say this ... Manning's arm looks more explosive than last year and Jones' arm-strength continues to be much greater than I expected based on his film at #Duke. #Giants

First practice for the QB vs a live defense is mainly to get back into the swing. And it looked like the D was totally amped up today. Not worried in the least. Now if 2 weeks in they look the same then its a different story.

Did it start when Karl Nelson - an excellent 3rd round pick developing as a too ORT - came down with Hodgkins lymphoma? There really is a dearth of good players from the 3rd round since him, off the top of my head.

Rave reviews during the rookie minicamp ... only day 1 but I tend to think “no news is good news” with CBs
