NFT: HBO s VEEP Finale, did anyone catch it? Spoilers below

Jim in Forest Hills : 5/20/2019 5:57 pm
Finally saw it and what a brutal but honest ending. That scene with Gary and the FBI when their eyes meet. Jonas as veep even though Amy begged her not to. I thought they wrapped up the major arcs beautifully.
one of my favorite comedies of all-time

the finale was great and we finally saw Selina show that there is nothing she wouldn't do for the presidency.

Julia Louis Dreyfus continues to show how immensely talented she is as an actress and I hope she quickly finds a new project.

Timothy Simons (Jonah Ryan) was incredible this season and I hope he wins the Emmy. I'm also a huge fan of Sam Richardson (Richard Splett). He cracks me up.
Loved the series

only criticism is that Selena became derivative and over-played, but Jonah stole the show.

my criticism is minor, I loved the show and they should get a lot of recognition (nominations) - though I think Barry should steal all the comedy wins.
Splett's the one "good guy"

and he got rewarded for it, which is out of character for the show. Selina's fate was deserved, she just wants to win at all costs, I don't think being POTUS really means that much to her.
Best comedy ensemble on tv.

doesn't suffer on a rewatch. Don't forget Mike did well for himself as well.

RIP Tom Hanks.

I thought it was terrific.

I loved the show to begin with, but I thought they really hit it out of the park with the finale.

From Julia Louis Dreyfus on down, the whole cast for this show was just great. Really liked seeing Sue again, even just for a moment.
Ending it

by going back to the "maybe Tom Hanks will die" joke was really really brilliant

I loved the whole series
Yep the show and ending were absolutely brilliant

bringing Sue back in absolute perfect Sue form for one of the last scenes was classic, and the Tom Hanks tie in was brilliant. Dan as a car salesman was a great touch. Catherine sitting there drinking margarita's and enjoying the funeral on TV was hilarious too.
I echo the comments here...BUT

This show has been great. Great cast and great writers. If anything I think being on HBO and usually (I presume due to content) shown late on Sunday nights it probably didn't get the attention and credit it deserve.

But I'll say this: I like shows that take chances and don't mind pushing the envelope (Curb Your Enthusiasm is one of these that does it in a different way). But this season I will say that there were some themes and jokes on Veep that seem to cross the line for me. It's no holds barred viewed on politics should be commended. But there were several times this year where I felt the humor was mean-spirited and just too much in a negative sense. There's a fine line between satire and insensitivity and for me the show did a good job of walking that line in prior seasons but jumped over the line this season.

Even keeping in mind that they wanted to show the American political system as a farce, if the show had a wider audience it would have come under a lot of criticism. I found the last episode almost endless and I didn't laugh much.

I'm really not trying to rip on the show since I found some of the earlier seasons fall down funny. But in the final act for the Selena Meyer crew, the writers seemed to go for broke and I found some of it over the top and angry.
subtle note

I liked that Selina ended up a one-term president while Talbot and Splett were both two-term presidents.

I agree 1000% Maybe with all that is happening now and how angry it makes me, the humor hit too close to home for me this season. I agree like when they were making fun of Talbot at one point and Selena made some play on words with "Mulato". Like you I agree that I would lose my breath over the years from laughing so hard and this season was no different at times, but I do agree at times they pushed the envelope a little too far over the line.
It definitely upped the viciousness of the barrages

almost like the writers were trying to finally one up each other in vitriol for the final season.
