& #8234;Buccaneers are releasing six-time Pro-Bowl DT Gerald McCoy, who was due to make $13 million this season, as @NFLSTROUD reported.& #8236; & #8234;Back in 2010 NFL Draft, Ndamukong Suh was the second overall pick and McCoy was the third overall pick. Now, nine-plus years later, both are free agents.& #8236;

Price is too high however... Someone will spend the $ on him.
Good player but not worth 13 mil a year.
superspynyg : 5/20/2019 7:18 pm : link
I’m sure they asked him to take a pay cut and he said no.

He's worth exploring.
adamg : 5/20/2019 7:22 pm : link
It's not like we couldn't use a guy who you can pencil in for 6 sacks from the DE position. We'd have a deep line.

He's not a DE. He's more of what we already have.
p.s.--I read Cleveland as a likely landing spot, but I'm gonna predict Oakland. Back when he was just a prospect, Mayock had him rated above Suh.

He's a 34 DE.

He's not the 5-technique the Giants need. He's another 300+ pound guy who runs the forty in over 5 seconds. The Giants already have three guys to play the two positions between the 0 and 3 techniques, they need a DE to play the 5-technique. That's not McCoy.
There's this assumption by the media (and some Giants fans)...
Milton : 5/20/2019 7:45 pm : link
...that the Giants will be starting Lawrence, Hill, and Tomlinson at DL, but I don't think so (other than short yardage). The three of them will be rotating between two of the three positions on the DL, but ideally they will find someone else to play the 5-technique (maybe RJ McIntosh), someone who can run the 40 in 4.8 seconds or lower.
Another Big Run Stopper at DT
OntheRoad : 5/20/2019 7:48 pm : link
would allow Dexter Lawrence to move to DE. That would suddenly make the DL a little scary.

Scary if it's third and one and you plan to run the ball, but not so scary if it's 1st and 10 and you plan on throwing the ball.
If McCoy is smart...
bw in dc : 5/20/2019 8:12 pm : link
he takes a trip to Foxborough.

At the 30, time for him to chase a ring. And the Pats could use a versatile interior player.

They just re-signed Shelton, so that ship may have passed.
Sounds like an Eagles signing

Likely on the cheap somehow

Totally
We should kick the tyres on McCoy
Big_Pete : 5/20/2019 8:44 pm : link
I like the idea of bringing in McCoy as a veteran mentor if the price is right.

It is probably unlikely, but it could enhance the development of our young dline. Much along the lines of what we are doing with Jenkins, Manning, Tate and did with Stewart last year.
Colts have a ton of cap
SFGFNCGiantsFan : 5/20/2019 9:08 pm : link
space. I expect them to go hard after him.

That's a fair point.
This is 1/2 the colts starting DL
DavidinBMNY : 5/20/2019 9:47 pm : link
Already gone before a pre season game. That is going to be tough to replace this year.
Bucs not colts
DavidinBMNY : 5/20/2019 9:48 pm : link
Sorry
Not a good fit for a rebuilding team like ours.
FStubbs : 5/20/2019 10:35 pm : link
Though if the money were right ...

He's a 4-3 DT
JonC : 5/21/2019 8:17 am : link
.
Lawrence is a NT
JonC : 5/21/2019 8:18 am : link
where do you guys come up with these players switching schemes and positions so easily, it doesn't happen often.

Madden
Huh??

C'mon now.

He most definitely isn't. He's a prototypical 4-3 NT. And as Milton says, he's not a 5 Technique guy
Spags could use a guy like this..
Racer : 5/21/2019 11:16 am : link
..in his 4-3 rebuild.
