Why the last 30 years - it knocks out of our 4 SB teams
PatersonPlank : 5/21/2019 12:19 am : link
Guys like Jim Burt, Snee, O'Hara, and Bavaro where among the most passionate players we have ever had.
mitch petrus for that clip with bradshaw.

Eli Manning.

I'm not as impressed by the rah rah guys as the guys who put the work in. Thin line between passion and just being emotionally immature which is mistaken for passion.
Brandon Jacobs
Hsilwek92 : 5/21/2019 12:26 am : link
Eli Manning
Michael Strahan
Antonio Pierce
And, at the end of the day, Antrel Rolle
Jacobs
Jimmy Googs : 5/21/2019 12:46 am : link
.
Jacobs
adamg : 5/21/2019 1:21 am : link
Strahan

I don't see how Eli can be construed as passionate. The guy is cold blooded. Nothing phases him. I don't see him as particularly passionate.

I think passionate does mean a kind of emotional instability though. Eli has no affect. Affect might be the definition of passion.
Jacobs

What you mean is demonstrative, not passionate
Milton : 5/21/2019 2:08 am : link
Acting like an asshole doesn't mean you're passionate, it just means you want the world to think you're passionate. True passion is Mark Bavaro, David Diehl, and the like, but you don't see it on their faces because they're too busy concentrating on winning the game rather than the photo op that comes from acting like an asshole on the sideline or when the ball doesn't come their way. Boo hoo the team is losing, so they have to let everyone know that it upsets them. That doesn't make them passionate.

How do you miss LT? That man played with passion and seeming anger that manifested itself into destruction.

Alright. That's fair.

Good point. I used to believe that smashing bats, throwing helmets and yelling at your QB for the ball was a cool thing when I was younger. Now, I get what you mean.
Jacobs,
Big Blue '56 : 5/21/2019 6:16 am : link
with Rolle not too far behind, at the end of the day.
Lawrence Taylor
JohnB : 5/21/2019 7:00 am : link
Any list should start with LT.
Jacobs and Diehl
Coach Red Beaulieu : 5/21/2019 7:23 am : link
Bleeding blue type guys that we've been missing. Lunch pail type guys, unheralded but big contributors. We probably haven't had them recently because our late round selections have sucked ass long time.

100% agree. And Mark Bavaro should be on the list as well. Very few played with such intensity.
I've never seen such a chronologically challenged group
WillieYoung : 5/21/2019 10:06 am : link
The last 30 years does not eliminate all 4 Super Bowl teams - - only the first one; it certainly does not eliminate Snee who played in a Super Bowl 8 years ago or O'hara who played in one in 2007.
It does eliminate Phil McConkey, though
Greg from LI : 5/21/2019 10:12 am : link
I'm probably going Odell
Mike in Long Beach : 5/21/2019 10:15 am : link
That doesn't mean he always channeled that passion and utilized it effectively. Often he did, but not always.

But I think he brought more unrelenting passion to the field than any other Giant I've seen.
I'd put Strahan
pjcas18 : 5/21/2019 10:26 am : link
before half the list in the OP.

Probably Landon Collins too.
Rich Seubert
HugeS : 5/21/2019 8:53 pm : link
Can’t believe nobody mentioned him. He was as mean and physical as they come at Guard. Just an all out blood and guts type player. After that I’d go Brandon Jacobs, Jessie Armstead, and obviously Lawrence Taylor although his game was much wilder/reckless abandon in the pre 30 years first half of career. Strahan was nasty too and loved to smash tackles with his bullrush but maybe ran a little hot and cold in the all out passion department even if his ability was off the chart.
Should have also mentioned
HugeS : 5/21/2019 8:57 pm : link
Tuck and Hammer. Didn’t matter where they lined up on the line or what assignment, they always came hard and were willing to do the dirty work just as much as rushing the passer.
Simms has to be in there too.
Since1965 : 5/21/2019 11:23 pm : link
Guy wore his heart on his sleeve.
How about DaMontre Moore?
BlueLou'sBack : 5/22/2019 12:40 am : link
"Da Monster" was so passionate, he couldn't help himself from garnering "roughing the passer" 15 yard penalties, multiple times.

Ok, sometimes I drink and post. However I don't see why you pick a timeline that eliminates our 1st, and arguably most important SB. Guys like Joe Morris, most of the Suburbanites, the best years of Bavaro, Banks, and LT. These guys were beyond passionate.
LT, Shockey, Jacobs.
Dave in Hoboken : 5/22/2019 12:55 am : link
I don't think anyone comes particularly close to those three in this aspect.
People often mistake stupidity or immaturity for passion
Go Terps : 5/22/2019 8:27 am : link
What, because Eli never acted like an ass on the field he doesn't have passion? Give me a break.

I can't remember the exact Seubert quite about playing football, but it went something like this: "Playing football is our job. If you want to have fun, go be a clown."
Mark
Harvest Blend : 5/22/2019 9:22 am : link
Bavaro.
Strahan

.
We Stomp You Out! - ( New Window )
Bavaro Played with a broken jaw, could only sip through a straw
TheMick7 : 5/22/2019 10:11 am : link
but practiced & played on Sunday.Carrying Lott 20 yards was pretty impressive too! Got a chance to talk w/him at a signing(Same priest married us both),what a stand-up guy. And,LT,playing w/one arm vs NO & dominating!Passion personified!
