Depends on your time horizon. When do you envision using the money? Big difference if you want it in 5 years vs 20 years.
The Vanguard 500 ETF is a great option if you have a longer term horizon. It's fees are now 0.03%, IIRC and it tracks the S&P500 so it's pretty diversified and broad based. But if you plan to use the $1000 +/- gains/losses in the next 5 years, it may be too aggressive.
FYI, you can open a brokerage account through Vanguard for free and I believe get unlimited trades of their ETFs for free. If you open an ETrade account, you'd probably incur a $7-14 fee per trade unless you get a handful of free trades on opening the account.

This info is great!! thanks I would not want it for $10-20 years.
Investing a lot lately in companies that work on alternative fuel. With the Green New Deal and climate change debate I think that’s highly the way to go.
A typical poker room on a Friday is full of recreational and generally awful players. A solid player (not even a good one) should expect to earn somewhere between $20/30 per hour long term playing 1/2NL. Higher at 2/5 (although a $1K bankroll is wayyy too small).
Investing $1000 in stock/bonds hoping to earn $40-50 a year (maybe $100 in a great year, wow!) doesn't seem to be the "best" way to invest it IMO. This isn't exactly gambling the college fund or a house down payment away.
just buy shares in the Vanguard Total Stock Market Index Fund- symbol is VTI. You can always add to the position. This will give you exposure to the stock market in general, without making any specific bets on stocks or even industries. Just a macro bet on the performance of the stock market. Do your best to tune out the short term volatility and noise and remember this is a long term investment. Stay invested!!
Like Vanguard previously mentioned or Dow Target 10 although the latter will have a one year commitment. You don't have enough to invest in any one stock so a fund with a wider reach will likely be the most cost effective solution. What sort of time frame do you have in terms of liquidity and what is your risk tolerance?
Download Robinhood. Throw it into an index fund like SPY Â
buy low, sell high. I would actually target a low float volatile stock with a history of spiking, and see if it could double up relatively quickly. rinse and repeat

have you had luck lately?
and without the jokes please, are penny stocks even worth it?
Huh?
Why?
+1.
Low fee index fund, put it in and don't look at it for a decade.

Would I need a broker to do it or could I do it on say Etrade?

I have them in hand, I'll sell both to you for $1000 (total). Cost me almost $1500 with fees.
It will be a life experience, maybe even once in a lifetime, and life experiences are far more valuable than any purely financial investment.
you can email me (it's in my profile) to complete this transaction.
And then feed it every month/quarter/year as you can afford to do so ... and let laugh at how much it’s worth in 10+ years.

Amazon is $1,851 per share. He has $1,000. Index fund is much more efficient.

Both Canadian base marijuana companies.
I took the 'over' last year (7.5). BBI thought it was a good bet...
It just doesn't seem like iut's enough to be worth it nowadays.
I did put $20 on this future while in Vegas a couple of weeks ago.
