NFT: Niki Lauda RIP

AcidTest : 5/21/2019 10:10 am
F1 legend Niki Lauda has died. His duel with James Hunt for the 1976 F1 championship was immortalized in Ron Howard's 2013 fantastic film "Rush." Despite being severely burned in an accident, Lauda returned after missing only two races. He retired after just one lap in the final race in Japan because of torrential rain. Hunt won the championship by one point. Lauda won three F1 titles. Prayers to him and his family and friends. God bless.

Those three years of Formula 1 (1975-1977) are about as thrilling, dramatic, harrowing, and compelling as sports can get.

He was heavily involved in F1 until the end working as a consultant for Mercedes.

Uncompromising genius from both a driving and vehicle dynamics standpoint, and that combination was rare in his time.

You know you're getting old when the sports figures who graced the walls of your room in your teens and pre-teens are passing on.

Great driver on great teams. I always kind of disliked him because I rooted for Andretti in F1 but over time came to admire him. He was force in F1.
