NFT: Newark Airport Pick-up / Drop off options

haper : 5/21/2019 11:15 am
I'm looking for any alternatives other than the traditional arrival and departure areas for dropping off / picking up at Newark Airport. Both my kids live out of state and I'm finding traffic getting to and from the terminals to be getting worse and worse.

I've heard something abt using the short term lots that each terminal has but wouldn't I have to pay (but I think its only $4)? Is there an option of them taking the airtrain somewhere (again, i assume I'd have to pay to get into the P1, P2, P3 or P4 lots)? I've thought abt having them take the airtrain to the airtrain train station but I don't think there is any way to get there by car.
They could take the AirTran

to the train station and you could meet them there. Seems a lot of trouble but that's up to you.
The short term lot is a good option so you don't have to circle

It's a few bucks, i don't remember exactly how much. For drop-off just drop them at the terminal, it's super easy. Yes traffic can be rough at times.
You may be right about the AirTran train station

There seem to be roads adjacent to it but I don't know if you can drive to it or not.
I think there's a shuttle on like Park and 40th that takes you to and

fro Newark for like $17 or so

I am in and out of Newark quite often. When picking up, I just hang out in the 7-11 (follow signs for rental car return) and wait for a phone call. Once I am contacted, it is no more than five minutes from 7-11 to terminal. I always pick my kids up at the far end of the terminal. It is usually less crowded. As for traffic, yes it exists but it does move. Using this option avoids having to park the car.
7/11 is chaos sometimes but there's also a cell lot

Our tip was I'd always pick her up at departures. Hardly any traffic because no one is waiting they're just dropping off and going.
Newark airport is getting worse and worse and worse lately. I'd hate to be from out of town and have to try to navigate it.
They have a cell phone lot

Where you can wait in your car for free. Have them call you when they get their bags.
I used the free cell phone lot

The last 2 pickups I made at Newark. Worked out great. Finding the cell phone lot is like going thru a maze, but it’s the best pickup option.
How old are your kids?

just tell them to take an uber.

I thought the days of the "airport pickup" or dropoff were over.

cheaper than a cab, usually cleaner cars, it's the greener option (if you care about that), reduces traffic, and inconveniences less people (most importantly not you).
Where is Cell Phone Lot ?

Is it new? I know where the 7-11 is
Newark cell lot is

On the airport grounds. I just follow the signs to it.
There's signs..

for the cell phone lot. From there it is about 2-3 minutes to the terminal.

Ironically Uber is a major factor in airport congestion to begin with, it's especially bad at JFK

Not at LaGuardia (a major cause of traffic). I fly regularly into LaGuardia and there is almost any time of day a 200 person line waiting for cabs.

I hop into an Uber before 25% of that line has moved. They have a specific spot to pick up ubers. it works. IMO.

Both my kids are in their 20's and they've used airtrain / NJ Transit to / from the airport in the past. But my kids have always been 'car talkers', we spent a lot of time driving to and from various sporting events they were in when younger. And it seems will still have our best conversations while in the car.
I drive part time for uber and do a ton of pickups there

Some good advise here. 7 11 and the cell phone lot work. You can also go to the rideshare lot if you like. Lots of crazy sites there. Good for a laugh or two.

Depending on day of the week time of day either terminal A or C will be crazy. Terminal B never is to busy. So if its busy have them take the monorail to terminal B level 3 and get them there. Otherwise as stated above departures is the place to pick up.
I am at Newark airport almost every week...

and by far the easiest place to pickup other than the terminal is the P4 parking lot. Just have them wait at the bottom of the escalator. You pull around by valet parking and they jump in your car. You are allowed to pick people up there. It is also just one stop from C terminal.

It is MUCH easier than any of the other options.

The rideshare lot is a good place to wait, if you need to, especially if coming from the south. Fun place to watch airplanes if that's your thing.
