Yup, he's been playing almost every day with all the injuries, and being his usual gritty self (great AB and baserunning to start last night's rally in the 9th), but he's due for a few days off.
Nice to see Urshela's back from taking one in the nuts.
Keep it rolling boys
Clint Frazier is happy.

Haha exactly
Obviously he's having a great season but one concern is the pitches/innings count.
The pen could use some rest.
The pen could use some rest.
I was hoping for 7 but yeah it looks like 6.
The pen could use some rest.
Get several more runs, get thru 5, then bring in one if the ham & eggers to finish it.
Nah they deserve it. Weve all had times of frustration with guys not playing well, but some in the anti-Gary crowd took it to an absurd level.
Of course most of them havent shown their hide in a while, but Im sure theyll chime in the next time he has a passed ball
lol, who is Hale?
Welp, a 9 run lead - I'm thinking we'll indeed see some Hale.
Funny, I was just saying to a friend a little bit ago that Frazier might have to go down if Stanton is ready soon - the Yanks probably don't want to lose Maybin or Morales and Frazier has really struggled big time since coming off IL.
Stanton gets scratched from Tampa's game and Clint hits 2 HR's to dead center.
Always seems to work that way!
... and throws an easy DP ball into CF.
You gotta go 5 to get the win, Domingo.

And he smoked his first AB but it was right to the outfielder.
Indeed. Teachable moment.
He gets threw 5 so he should be 9-1 after tonight.(ok knock wood)

Lol. He absolutely is. Two speeds. Fast and slow. And fast isn't much faster than slow. :P
34 runs in the last 3 games and counting. Amazing.
These guys are building value, which is wonderful; I assume they can't all stick around.
OK, that answers all my questions.

Nice win. Great to see Clint take both of his homers to CF. He needs to keep the ball up the middle.

According to Aaron Boone Giancarlo Stanton was held out of tonights @TampaTarpons game as a precautionary measure... he was hit in the knee/calf while taking live ABs a couple days ago ... that area tightened up... no tests scheduled. Hes expected to play tomorrow #yankees

Boone said LeMahieu was ok. Would have gotten him off his feet in the blowout even if he hadnt fouled the ball off his foot
I know we love Gio but I think DJ has to stay in the lineup somehow because he's such a good leadoff hitter and those are extremely valuable in critical games. Gio as a late-game infield glove and fearless hitter in the clutch is also extremely valuable...
I wonder how Boone arranges the lineup with everyone back. Judge should hit 3rd, with DJ leadoff and either Gleyber or Voit 2nd

A-ha... so it's not related to either of the injuries that kept him out.
That's good.
I'm wondering what the corresponding move is going to be now when Stanton is ready to come back up.
If you asked me this morning, I actually would have said Frazier. I don't think they want to risk losing Maybin - they don't have options on him and I believe the same would be true of Morales.
But after tonight, it's tough to see Frazier being the one to go down.
I'd say maybe Estrada - but then we're only carrying 4 infielders and there's basically no one to play one of the infield spots if we need someone to come out. It's got to either be that, or Kendrys - but I don't know if they'd want to lose Kendrys already after just bringing him in about a week ago.
Tough call. Not sure what they're going to do there.

I was wondering why he didn't play, he should be back
when they come home next week.
I am not sure why I would move him at this point,
he does need regular at bats after last season though.
Gardner most likely won't be here next year, and Florial
is still at least a couple years away...
I am not sure why I would move him at this point
I think the only "why" is a good starting pitcher. We're still short at least one of those.

A lot can happen in 10 days, I'm inclined to think Cashman keeps all his bullets available and sends Frazier down to get regular at bats unless Clint goes on a hot streak and starts raking.

Severino is back in July, and supposedly Monty in August.
Based on Gardner's age and contract status, I would keep Frazier around myself.
If Gardner were younger, that would be a different scenario.
No disagreement from me. I'm just looking at what the Yankees may be thinking. The Giants and Pirates were scouting last night's game per the Post:
BALTIMORE With the Giants and Pirates having scouts at Camden Yards on Tuesday night, Clint Frazier could not have picked a better time to display his right-handed power in front of clubs who could provide a starting job for him.
The going-nowhere Giants are getting calls about lefty starter Madison Bumgarner and their outfield is a mess. The Pirates, who started Tuesday nights action in the NL Central hunt, talked to the Yankees two years ago about Frazier before they traded Gerrit Cole to the Astros prior to last season.
With his path to regular playing time in The Bronx blocked by Giancarlo Stanton, Aaron Judge and in the not-so-distant future when Estevan Florial surfaces in the big leagues and either takes over center field or moves to a corner, Fraziers highest value to the Yankees might be as a trade chip.

Well, you know the media in this town...
When they say Frazier is 'blocked by Stanton',
and 'in the not so distant future by Florial'
They didn't mention Gardner at all.
How are you blocked by somebody who is hurt in
the minors, if you are already playing major league games? They have it reversed, LOL.
No one knows what Florial is going to become either.
The media is doing their thing, I get it.
The scouts from other teams, doing their due diligence.
We can wait and see.
Yep he would be interesting. I'm not saying Frazier is a future MVP/untouchable but the Pirates and Giants can take a long walk off a short pier. The Giants are going to ask for an ace package for MadBum and he's basically a #3 starter right now and heading downward. The Pirates? they had their shot at our blue chippers with Cole. Who are they shopping Archer? LOL. They are the stooges that ridiculously over payed for him and his current over 5 ERA. Honestly I like the shape of our organization now. The depth is superb as we've seen over the past few months. Could we use a top SP? Sure who can't? but we can win it all with what we have. It will come down to the pen in the playoffs any way. Hopefully fingers crossed we get Sevi back in the 2nd half.

Wonder what it would take to get him. The Jays are going nowhere and Stroman would be excited to come to his childhood team.

Don't forget that Jordan Montgomery will probably be back sometime in the August-September timeframe. Probably too late to be of much, if any, value in 2019- but getting him back on the mound for at least a few starts would have him ready for 2020. Assuming full recovery, that's yet another SP in the stable for 2020.
The media tends to overlook the big picture for the flashy story. With Severino, the Yanks have a true #1 SP. With German, likely at least a #3 SP going forward. Montgomery gives you a solid #5 SP- they have value too.
With Tanaka and Paxton under contract this year and next, the Yanks have the rotation covered. Now, if they can add some upper level SP depth, that might work too- but the sports media is once again chasing the wrong story.
If you think about it assuming everyone comes back healthy I'm not sure how much help we'd need at the trading deadline anyway.

It looks great to me too but can we 100% count on Sevy this year? Until he starts throwing and feeling good, we can't pencil him in as a definite IMO. Also, I'm thinking German is on some type of innings limit this year, and I don't know how they're going to approach that.
Of course Morales grounds into the easy DP. Booooo
Double for Gardy. Let's get him home.
Keep pounding the piss out of them. I hope we put up another 10 spot tonight.

Looks pretty far, so North of Liverpool. Well hopefully you get to see a good game and the Yanks crush the Sawx. I think that when you see the pitching live, you will be amazed at how fast the ball really looks in person.

I was thinking the same thing arc. Just keep beating the hell out of them. Plus the Sox beat the hell out of them last year and I don't recall them apologizing for it.
It's really great to jump on them early these last two after the comeback late the other night took the fight right outta them. Now the early leads are keeping them down.
We can still feel leftover magic in yesterday's thread...you da man!
He is singlehandedly eviscerating them this year.
Bird bashing.

I absolutely loved him as a hockey guy - he was one of the best ever. So, yes - I totally agree with you on that.
I just love hearing his calls on these HR's - he's literally just out of things to say so he's just laughing. There's nothing else he can do at this point.
Torres and Sanchez have absolutely demoralized them. This is Barry Bonds level stuff.
Yup. The "Toe with more power" comp is a great one for Thairo.

Yeah, I like him too. I think barring injury Wade might've seen his last days with the big club as Estrada has clearly done better in his time with the big club.
yeah, love CC but he's leading after 5 (barely), time for the pen
The call stands. I don't see how that's even close to not legal, but I guess they've been changing the rules about what you can do.
Yes, no canon at all, but decent. Agree, charges the ball, clean fielding, quick release and on line.
Gardner has two doubles on routine ground ball singles... I think a local HS baseball team CF could have held Gardy to a single.
next year...
I know what you are saying - but it is two All Star players coming back, two of the best at their positions. But I understand.
Love the CC. But this has to be his last year...right?
Stanton I could see that being a concern, though. I could see a ton of strikeouts and fans getting impatient.
I'm not in "I don't want Stanton" mode - but I'm also not dying to get him back nor do I think it's going to hurt the Yanks much if he misses another 2-3 weeks.
Love the CC. But this has to be his last year...right?

Unless Britton is closing tonight.
Either way I'd guess there is some sort of issue with either Chapman or Britton tonight.
Love the CC. But this has to be his last year...right?
It is - he's announced that he's retiring after this year.
Hopefully the big guy can go out with a ring and finish strong, but he's definitely just a 5 inning guy at this point and really can't give us much length and he's just throwing tons of cutters and mixing in sliders - he's a 2 pitch pitcher.
HoFer in my opinion. Hopefully he can go out on top.

Him getting a ring would be cool. A ring in his first year on the team (2009), and a ring in his last year on the team (2019). 10 years apart. There's something very symetrical about that.
Delusional... damned auto correct
No way DJ is sitting - he's been our most consistent hitter all year.
It'll be tough to sit Gio, but I would imagine most games will have Didi manning SS with Gleyber @ 2B and DJ at the hot corner.
Gio will mix in and get games at 3rd - maybe on days where DJ is spelling Luke @ 1B. But DJ absolutely has to play every day.
But, yes that pitch to Shaw was intentional, IMHO. He never made another pitch inside aside from one slider...
Betances will eventually be back, too.
Kahnle has really worked himself into the higher leverage spots too, though - he's been fucking awesome.
Very strong bullpen. If Green returns to form and Dellin comes back strong, it's the best bullpen in baseball. Even now, it's either NYY/HOU/TB.
One more, Chap.
14 over .500.

- Britton's "a little beat up" (won't say what) so stayed away from him tonight, expects him to be available tomorrow
Good thing Paxton is almost back
Boone is great with the media overall but really struggles when discussing injuries. I'd be worried about Britton at this point.
Sounds like he's going to miss his next start, at least.
Not really worried about Britton, though. He'll be back tomorrow according to Boone.

"good news" on Britton - available today. Was beat up after throwing in both games of the double header last week, plus throwing in 21 of 41 games. Maybe a bit of tired arm. He was a bit wild the other night.
Chapman looked a bit off last night. Good thing it was the Orioles or he'd have been in trouble. They helped him out on the 1st two outs swinging at ball 4.

If they throw at him today, I'd bet there's a brawl with Voit leading the charge. You know Luke hasn't been happy with the way he's been pitched to lately and then the one behind his head last night.

Agreed. I dont think theyre trying to hit Luke on purpose, but it seems the book on him has become to bust him hard inside off the plate to shake him up. since hes been hammering the ball away. Hes seen several brush backs as a result.
Not a stretch to think theyll take a shot at Torres too...downside of playing a scrub team with nothing to play for, they dont care if one of their guys gets suspended.

Don't get me wrong, I totally agree with you it's not a stretch to think they'll take a shot at Gleyber. It would be complete bs if they did, since it's their pitchers who are throwing the gopher balls. I just think if they sunk to that, the Yanks wouldn't stand for it and push back big time, and not just by hitting one of their players with a pitch.
It'll be interesting to see how it plays out today.
