Wow, what a throw by Gardy!!
mfsd : 5/22/2019 8:58 pm : link
CC owes him a steak for getting him out of that inning
Is anyone up in the pen?

This is BS if overturned

yeah, love CC but he's leading after 5 (barely), time for the pen

No way Sanchez blocked his chance to slide
I was wondering about that.

I think it's the right call, but it did seem a bit close.
Nice throw by Gardner.

Fast release and accurate. Classic Gardy assist.

The call stands. I don't see how that's even close to not legal, but I guess they've been changing the rules about what you can do.

GruningsOnTheHill : 5/22/2019 9:01 pm : link
is no Hicks out there; took a perfect throw on that one and he delivered.
Ridiculous argument.
section125 : 5/22/2019 9:04 pm : link
#1 the throw beat the runner by a lot. He was tagged as he slide into Sanchez whose knee was on the line. #2 Severino had a better line just on the foul side of the line. So, that was half of the base path was open.
Gardy’s never had a strong arm, but his throws are
mfsd : 5/22/2019 9:05 pm : link
quick and typically accurate. He’s racked up a lot of assists over the years when guys test him

Yes, no canon at all, but decent. Agree, charges the ball, clean fielding, quick release and on line.

How bad are the Orioles?
section125 : 5/22/2019 9:30 pm : link

Gardner has two doubles on routine ground ball singles... I think a local HS baseball team CF could have held Gardy to a single.

falls in love with the slider to often. He has a great FB. Gets the 1st two outs using the FB mostly (and the slider for strike three) then walks Nunez on 4 sliders.

I know what you are saying - but it is two All Star players coming back, two of the best at their positions. But I understand.

Guys like Judge and Didi are only going to help - they're both major presences here and leaders on top of being fantastic players. They won't negatively affect the chemistry at al.

Stanton I could see that being a concern, though. I could see a ton of strikeouts and fans getting impatient.

I'm not in "I don't want Stanton" mode - but I'm also not dying to get him back nor do I think it's going to hurt the Yanks much if he misses another 2-3 weeks.

Is exactly the type of player this team needed. Excellent defender and the best type of hitter they were lacking. A consistent base run hitter. Great lead off option for them.
No Britton here?

over Britton tonight? Britton hasn't pitches in 2 days.

Unless Britton is closing tonight.

Either way I'd guess there is some sort of issue with either Chapman or Britton tonight.

It is - he's announced that he's retiring after this year.

Hopefully the big guy can go out with a ring and finish strong, but he's definitely just a 5 inning guy at this point and really can't give us much length and he's just throwing tons of cutters and mixing in sliders - he's a 2 pitch pitcher.
.
arcarsenal : 5/22/2019 10:01 pm : link
section already posted it... but yeah. This is definitely the end of the road for the big man.

HoFer in my opinion. Hopefully he can go out on top.

Him getting a ring would be cool. A ring in his first year on the team (2009), and a ring in his last year on the team (2019). 10 years apart. There's something very symetrical about that.
LeMahieu, Urshela
GruningsOnTheHill : 5/22/2019 10:02 pm : link
Which of these two guys rides the bench when Didi comes back? LeMahieu, who won the NL batting title 2 years ago? Urshela, who is the best defensive 3B on the team, seems to always come through in the clutch, and--oh yeah--is batting like .350?
Man Thorne is decisional...
rnargi : 5/22/2019 10:02 pm : link
He's been talking like they've been a hit away from a win for four innings.
.
arcarsenal : 5/22/2019 10:02 pm : link
Yup - would love to see him bookend his Yankee tenure with '09 and '19 championships. That would be special - and the symmetry is cool too.

No way DJ is sitting - he's been our most consistent hitter all year.

It'll be tough to sit Gio, but I would imagine most games will have Didi manning SS with Gleyber @ 2B and DJ at the hot corner.

Gio will mix in and get games at 3rd - maybe on days where DJ is spelling Luke @ 1B. But DJ absolutely has to play every day.
Not for nothing but
section125 : 5/22/2019 10:04 pm : link
when Green throws a lot of pitches he gets hittable. I know Boone is trying to get Green straightened out, but geez...but that was better pitching on the corner or just off.

But, yes that pitch to Shaw was intentional, IMHO. He never made another pitch inside aside from one slider...

Jays tie it up with 2 outs in the 9th

arcarsenal : 5/22/2019 10:09 pm : link
We do need Greenie to get back to what he was before - it'll alleviate a lot of the middle inning strain. Ideally, he, Kahnle and Holder will be the guys who give you middle inning work when the starter doesn't go deep and then Otto, Britton and Chappy are the leverage guys for 7/8/9.

Betances will eventually be back, too.

Kahnle has really worked himself into the higher leverage spots too, though - he's been fucking awesome.

Very strong bullpen. If Green returns to form and Dellin comes back strong, it's the best bullpen in baseball. Even now, it's either NYY/HOU/TB.
