It's Juwan Howard. Pretty damn cool!

After a run with an experienced college coach with a sterling reputation for not cheating produced two NCAA title game appearances, I guess Michigan decided it needed to go in a different direction.

As opposed to what? Asking Beilein to keep coaching on the days when the Cavaliers don't have a game?

Or maybe finding an experienced coach with a sterling reputation.
Been following this closely

and very excited that of all their options, Juwan was the pick. I had no interest in Cooley or Smart, and there weren't many other options after that willing to come. I love Coach B but the timing of his departure screwed us, which wasn't really his fault.

A carbon copy of Beilein wasn't walking through that door, so anyone else is going to be a bit of a different direction. Really hoping they are able to keep some, if not all, assistants.
His son Patrick just

a few months ago left LeMoyne to take over at Niagara U.

Working his way up. Pat Beilein was 18-10 this past season at LeMoyne, and was 77-41 overall in 4 seasons.

If Howard can't cut it, might be worth watching how young Beilein fares at Niagara the next couple seasons.

I don't think Howard has a bad rep. He's been eager to coach for some time.

But it is a big step. See Mullin at St. John's and Ewing at Georgetown as examples of administrations reaching back to their past for help...

Should be interesting

Might be a little out there since he has had no experience in college or any experience as a head coach anywhere.
I think it'll be fun for the Big Ten.
Actually it is a very good pick

The dads and students of the game will have made respect for Howard. Who is actually a student of the game and was very fundamentally sound as a player himself. Also recruiting guys and them feeling comfortable that they can get on the court as a freshman is going to go a long way ... Not to mention he has been getting his chops up as a coach. Toss in his ties to the league to help guys get to the next level he should be able to recruit some ball players.
