NFT: Rumor: New Wolverine casting...

Nick in LA : 5/23/2019 7:43 am
Charlie Hunnam.

I for one would love this move but admittedly I am a Hunnam fan boy since SOA.

Thoughts?
Rumor - ( New Window )
I like Hunnam
UConn4523 : 5/23/2019 7:54 am : link
but they need to continue to make it Rated R for it to matter. He's too brutal of a character to do what they did prior to Logan.
id like that casting....
Italianju : 5/23/2019 8:01 am : link
that said i dont really believe the article at this point. I dont think Feige is going to come out swinging with the big guns. I think you are more likely to see some secondary mutants before we get magneto, prof X, wolverine, etc.. Introducing wolverine to the MCU is a massive deal and i think it will be quite a few years before we get that.

I still think disney should offer Jackman 50 million to do a team up with deadpool thats the journey from fox universe to the MCU, lol.
I dont have problem with the casting but
twostepgiants : 5/23/2019 8:01 am : link
Im skeptical of the news because we have no news on a film for him to be in. Usually casting is last. Writers get hired to do a script and then Directors get hired to get a production together and then they cast. This rumor says a solo Wolverine film. Thats how theyve done it and how we know an Eternals film and Shang Chi film are coming in the next 2-3 years.

Now if the casting is for first an appearance in another film then that could be possible. Thats how it was done with Black Panther and Spider-Man. Im not sure what film a new Wolverine would be a part of. The upcoming slate based on their varying state of production should be Black Widow, Eternals, Guardians 3, Strange 2, Shang Chi and Panther 2 in next 2-3 years and he isnt an obvious fit for any of those.

So we will have to see. Eternals is casting now. Perhaps the Eternals film will explain the creation of mutants as its taking place over 10,000 years of time and Wolverine is the first mutant.
id love to pick feige's brain..
Italianju : 5/23/2019 8:06 am : link
on how he is going to do this. Are you going to have all youngsters like first class? And if so what does that do to say a magneto's origin story. And if they are not young then have they been acting in secret for all these years? I mean they cant do that cause people would be like "well why didnt these assholes help with thanos". I know people speculate they will use like the snap or some other world altering moment to say thats how mutants were created, but i thought that i read somewhere that they werent going to do something like that.

I think Mysterio is going to open that plot hole. In the trailer he says "I'm from Earth... but not yours" - stating that the "snap" opened up multiple dimensions and we are only one earth. I think that kind of opens up all types of possibilities.
I hope he can pull it off
jamison884 : 5/23/2019 8:13 am : link
He's had some very stiff-acting roles in he past, basically playing a similar character multiple times.
Fiege has already stated...
vonritz : 5/23/2019 8:23 am : link
No X movies till phase 5 at the earliest. This article is clickbait garbage
Meh, a little uninspiring
j_rud : 5/23/2019 8:28 am : link
Just watched him in Triple Frontier on Netflix. He's not awful but I dont know that he can carry a franchise either. Pretty one-note kind of guy.
Does anybody really want to see a Black Widow movie?
Post Time : 5/23/2019 8:41 am : link
No super powers, nothing to get excited about...
Eh not
TommyWiseau : 5/23/2019 8:43 am : link
a big fan of him to be honest, okay actor but nothing more then that. In Pacific Rim he was cringe worthy. I, along with most of the human population, think Tom Hardy would be perfect for the role. How would that work with him playing Venom and all? Who knows. Richard Armitage would be interesting also

This is not really all that accurate. Producers, directors, stars all come in at different points in every production. Sometimes a director or star really wants to do a specific movie or role and shops it around to producers, sometimes a producer has an idea and hires a writer, sometimes a writer has a script and his agent shops it etc.

Your outline is somewhat ideal and probably more accurate with these big budget franchises, but comics are a different animal because you can look at the body of work of an actor and look at the character in the comics and say "Yeah, this guy can pull this off". Look at Deadpool. Ryan Reynolds was attached to play Deadpool as early as 2004 before there was even a script. He didn't appear until 2009 in that horrible Wolverine prequel, then basically had to beg Fox to make the movie on a shoestring budget (so far as superhero movies go, anyway) with a relatively inexperienced director who was something like the 3rd of 4th guy to be attached to the project. They also changed writers a few times during those periods.

I have no opinion on the Hunnam casting, but it's not out of the realm to think they're casting actors for these mutants before they have any idea what the scripts are going to be like.
Ugh
Jay on the Island : 5/23/2019 9:29 am : link
I like Hunnam but that would be an awful choice IMO. He has basically bombed as a lead in movies.
Blonde wolverine?
widmerseyebrow : 5/23/2019 9:41 am : link
Other than that I suppose he has the look:

Triple Frontier was an awful movie all around for all the actors imo.

Lost City of Z was decent. Didn't see the Papillon remake.
I thought they were going to go with Danny DeVito
The_Boss : 5/23/2019 10:11 am : link
As the next Wolverine.
Link - ( New Window )
I think Tom Hardy would be the perfect choice to play Wolverine
Jay on the Island : 5/23/2019 10:33 am : link
I am not sure if he would be willing to make that commitment though.

I don't think this rumor is true. Comicbookmovie.com is always on top of everything related to this genre and there is not a single mention of it.

He was excellent in lost city of Z, showed alot of depth as a lead character and versatility as an actor.

I would be on board with this casting, plus he would be easier to sign up for additional movies.

I haven't seen lost city of Z but I will check it out.
doubt we see Hardy as Venom and wolverine...
Italianju : 5/23/2019 11:31 am : link
i understand they are technically different universes, but i follow all this stuff. The avg person might not understand that. I also think the idea of the multiverse leaves the door open for a "sony universe" character to show up in the MCU. I didnt love Venom, but it wasnt miserable and Hardy was good.
He's an awful actor with very little range.
Brown Recluse : 5/23/2019 12:23 pm : link
The only reason he's in so many movies is because he's popular with the ladies. Him as Wolverine will basically just be Jax Teller with long claws and a cigar.

To me he's the British Channing Tatum.

First we get Rob Pattenson as the new Batman and now Charlie Hunnam as the new Wolverine. Don't like it.

It's unlikely but remember Chris Evans played the human torch and then went on to play Captain America.

yeah i know Evans was...

the human torch, but that was like 5 years before he become captain america. Venom is getting a sequel supposedly so venom would be both characters much closer in time.

It's hard to disagree with that. Hunnam has very little range. I haven't seen this anywhere else yet except for one site so I am hoping that they go elsewhere for such a huge role.

Batman doesn't have super powers, either. What they both have, though, is a rich and extensive comic book history featuring awesome backstories.

That's one reason that plenty of fans have been clamoring for a Black Widow movie for years.

It was 4 years but even if they cast Hardy today the movie wouldn't be released for at least two more years. Feige said that he wanted to slowly integrate XMen characters into the MCU but that they were years away from doing that. There has been quite a few rumors that they won't be introduced for at least 5 years which makes sense because they have just introduced so many new characters plus they have the Eternals, Nova, Adam Warlock, and Shang-Chi coming next.
Meanwhile, in the DCU...

If you think about it, several actors have played more than one superhero, like Ben Affleck - Daredevil, Batman - or Ryan Reynolds - Green Lantern, Deadpool - and Brandon Routh - Superman, The Atom.

I was describing how Marvel Studios has handled casting in the MCU thus far
my point isnt that...
Italianju : 5/23/2019 2:53 pm : link
a person cant play two. Its that venom just came out and venom 2 is reportedly happening. So unless they are waiting like 8 years to do wolverine it would be quite close. These other examples are many years apart.

I get what your saying but if there is going to be a venom 2 then it will likely arrive in 2020. It sounds like the Xmen are going to be introduced in 5+ years so that would be about 4+ years in between films.

This is all a moot point because Hardy is a big name actor who not want to commit to being in 5+ movies. They will likely target someone in their early to mid 30's to play Wolverine because he will likely be apart of the MCU for 8+ years.
Maybe Wolverine in Eternals???

Charlie Hunnam is said to possibly be involved in Eternals in a cameo role, as he is only said to be shooting for three days.
