Worst lineup in recent memory. Todd Frazier in the three-hole, lol. Well, honestly not much worse than Cano. Hopefully, we finish up the 4-game sweep!
Both McNeil and Cano to IL. So Mets-like to finally have Cano out of the lineup for an extended stretch and McNeil goes on IL as well so he can't replace him at 2B. The Cespedes stuff, the Lowrie re-injuries and setbacks...what is it with this team?
What a fucking joke
Can someone tell me why Mickey left Dora the Explorer (as my young son calls him) in the game?
What a fucking joke
Metnut, unsure if you saw the NY post article today, but the day Cano went on the IL, Kelenic hit his 8th HR in A ball.
I believe it would be 3rd time in 4 days for Diaz as well. Gsellman threw all of 7 pitches yesterday.

for Diaz and can't get even ask him to use 4 outs. What's the point in giving up Kelenic and taking on all the Cano dead money if he's just a one inning guy?
What a fucking joke

Kid is a stud. We need to use Diaz in situations like today to get max value out of him. He was off yesterday. Asking an extra out isn't too much. Especially 2nd and 3rd and 2 out in a 1 run game! Doesn't get any bigger than that!
Our manager is a buffoon.
Because they may want to keep Dom in for defense at 1B and pitcher would slot into Alonso's spot and they are down to Guillorme and Nido on the bench so unless you PR with a pitcher you are taking away a potential PH in extra innings.
lets go mets
One of the craziest Mets weeks I've seen in a while.
If they close this out, so much more fun talking about a winning streak than having me lose my mind complaining about Callaway.
Nope. Dont have time to sit on game threads everyday. No worries, Mickey makes an idiotic move every game
and don't forget the stolen base that set up the go ahead run against Strasburg
Dumping Broxton looks to be the right move. Let Gomez, Davis and Altheir fight it out to see who stays when Conforto, Nimmo and McNeil all come back.
Our manager is a buffoon.
Makes it even more head scratching when Diaz comes in and has a 1,2,3 9th.

what about the ones he gets right though.

If he was available he needs to be out there with 2 outs and 2nd and 3rd.

It's bad managing on his part. Gsellmen has been great lately but he looked gassed. If Diaz was truly available and sharp, you have to start warming him up in the 8th once Gsellmen gets into trouble. Just basic stuff here.
It's not all bad. It looked like Mickey was going to be fired and the team has rallied a bit behind him (although it's mostly backups) so we have to acknowledge that.
3 vs the Tigers this weekend and then the schedule gets tough again. Let's leave this week at least at .500 and hopefully we start to get some players back.
If they can keep it together until everyone gets healthy and straightened out, these are the kinds of wins that can galvanize a team.
And I don't think that's overrated in baseball.
Mick should just go George Constanza and do the opposite

I agree. Mickey has made a bunch of questionable moves. He is hopeless when it comes to dealing with the NY media, who constantly get him to say things he shouldn't.
But if you look at the injuries and underperformance by the starters, this team is right about where it should be record wise
Sign Keuchel.
Two weeks from the draft so you really should wait, so you don't lose a pick, but I don't mind either way.
if you wait, make sure he knows the Mets have interest, a rotation spot, and will go multi-year.

Yoenis Cespedes out for the year after right ankle surgery, per the Mets.
Sign Keuchel.

Pretty sure that is what all the other SP starved teams are waiting for as well.

Are any of them getting 20M back into their payroll they'd already considered spent (in theory)?

I don't think Cespedes was coming back this year anyway. He was going through the motions but I think his plan all along was to sit out and then try to have a big year in 2020, which is his walk year.
I also think Mets would be foolish to try and void his contract. That sends a huge negative message to other potential free agents. Cespedes only has one year left, and like I said, it is his walk year so he will be motivated.
If this is BVW's plan, it makes sense of otherwise head-scratching moves.
1. Why sign Lowrie when you already have McNeil, Cano, Frazier, Rosario and JD? Well, it makes sense if you want to have the option of trading Rosario.
2. Why did Brodie call up Hecchavarria and thereby guarantee his 3 million salary when he could have let him walk for nothing. Why didn't he use that 3 million to sign Gio, who is obviously a bigger need than a thirdstring SS? Again, it makes more sense if Brodie wants to leave himself the option of trading Rosario. Then Hecc becomes the primary backup and late inning defensive replacement.
3. Jiminez does not have the upside of Rosario but he is a much more solid defender and will be a guy who gives you six years of ML average play at the SS position, starting about the time Lowrie's contract is up.
And just to be clear, I'm not saying BVW is actively shopping Rosario. But I do think Brodie realizes he does not have the prospects to swing a big deadline deal and if he wants to make such a deal, Rosario likely has to be part of it. So, he quietly made the moves that will enable that to happen if he wants to go in that direction.
I think the pitching is fine. The bullpen was the best in baseball in May and that's without even getting top performances from everyone. The rotation seems to be settling in nicely as well... finally.
And that's not taking anything away from Vlad.. He should be a great one, but ugh... yeah. My money is on Alonso winning Rookie of the Year this year so far....

There are so many good young players in the running for NL rookie of the year this season. Paddack, Alonso, Soroka, Verdugo, Tatis Jr. plus Austin Riley could enter the running if he keeps this up. I dont remember a year with so many legit options. As of today I would give it to Alonso but Paddack and Soroka are close.

drooling over Vlad Guerrero Jr and wishing the Mets could someday develop a prospect like that when in the same season as Vlad, Alonso is hitting the stage and is smoking him so far offensively. We may have just developed our own Goldschmidt or Judge but we are envious over a guy hitting league average with poor defense at 3B.... so far lol.

Absolutely, many good candidates for sure. And who knows where it ends up. Just funny to me how Mets fans have such blinders on when it comes to their own players. The Mets have not been short on developing talent over the last 5 years or so at all.

In baseball it doesnt get better than a team of home grown players performing at high levels.
Yes, thats not an insult to Alonso its just that Vlad Jr has a higher ceiling than any young player in baseball. As good as Soto and Acuna Jr are Vlad will be a better hitter than both.
Ah yes... the ol age thing. They are both breaking into the majors in the same year, both teams will control these players for 6 years, and neither should surpass their prime by the time that control is over. In terms of impact the player will have on the franchise until they hit free agency I really dont see the difference. Further, we've produced the toolsy younger type prospects too. Rosario was on top of all lists a couple of seasons ago. Doesnt always work out better than the older, more polished college bats. Overall point, Alonso is an absolute stud regardless of age. He might be the top bat we've produced since Strawberry. He might hit 50 homers his rookie year. Mets fans shouldn't really be griping about not producing prospects, especially right now IMO.

I love Alonso as much as the next person but saying he's "smoking" a 20 year old who has more than held his own in his first 20 mlb games is a little silly, no?

yea I don't think there are 10 guys in all MLB who would return Vlad Jr. in a deal 1 for 1. He's a more advanced version of Miguel Cabrera circa 2003.
