I don't know if Givens just had no control or what - he almost hit Hicks 3 times and almost hit Voit too.
Maybe they're still miffed over Green pegging one of their guys in the ribs yesterday - but I can't imagine Givens would be looking to put anyone on in that spot.
I agree with you. Even though I know W-L records for pitchers are kind of silly it's sort of ingrained in me to look at them and evaluate a pitcher at least in part on them. For example I love that German is 9-1 and feel like that accurately shows how we'll he's pitched.
But Tanaka has been almost as good as is only 3-3.
And Kahnle gets the win despite giving up a 3 run game tying HR to boot!
RE: RE: Jack Curry on the YES Postgame is a great listen Â
The post games were pretty rough when it was Lorenz by himself back there.
Agree 100%. You know when it's just Bob on the postgame show, that it's going to be a short and sweet postgame; which is fine when we lose, haha. But when we win, I want Jack Curry there to analyze. I want to relive the win.
Really want to checkout the book he wrote with David Cone called "Full Count." I'd imagine it's a good read from those two guys. Apparently, that's where Jack was when he wasn't on the postgame, out on the road promoting the book with Cone. Glad he's back now.

To fans, it may be silly, not sure starting pitchers feel the same way.
That's how I look at it. Yes it's de-valued, but to starting pitchers, maybe not so much.
just shows you how it's a stupid stat. Judge players based on how they perform, not how the team performs around them.
To be clear, I agree with you on this. But I still like to see the pitcher who deserves the W get it.
Speaking of stats being stupid...Holder got a “Hold” for today’s game, since the actual tying run was the hitter who hit the home run off of Kahnle. In other words, Holder “held” the 4 run lead by only being charged with 3 runs
as the “opener” tomorrow night. I wonder what the plan is after that...
My first thought was Cessa but now that CC's shelved for at least one start, I'm thinking he'll get it. My guess now is we'll probably see some combo of Cortes Jr and Hale tomorrow.
Maybe Cessa gets thrown in there too and they call someone up for CC's start but I'm thinking they hold Cessa back.
Reflecting on today's game, I completely understand why Boone took the flak for a second inning from Holder. But if you look at the big picture including tomorrow - some relievers have to go 2 innings and not just 1. I mean - our starters, we're lucky if they go 5. So I think the Yanks are trying to develop a bullpen where, say, three of the guys are "2 inning" guys and not just one.
Series game 1: 5-1-1-1-1 (the "big four" relieve)
Series game 2: 6-2-1 (you need a 2-inning reliever after last night)
Series game 3: repeat game 1
Series game 4: 4-2-2-1 (not a strong starter)
Put differently, since we are seriously lacking starters and those we have go 6 at most and usually 5 - I understand Boone trying to get 2 innings out of some relievers. Hope that's not completely incoherent ...
I like Holder for that role. So that makes sense to me.
Yeah it makes sense to me too.
If Boone was intent on getting two innings from him, today up 4 vs the O's was the time to do it. He got hurt by the two walks and honestly that's not something we usually see from Holder. Totally out of character for him to walk two like that.

Yes, true and Holder is normally good for it. But why have Otto up and throwing in the 7th? And why wait until the hit after the two walks to bring in Kahnle. Holder was all over the place that inning, high, low, in, out. Boone should have brought who ever was ready in after the two walks.

Yeah I agree with that section. Those two walks were a clear sign to me Holder wasn't himself for whatever reason, and I wanted him out after the second one as well.
The walks were like a Bat signal for me and I'm not sure what Boone was looking at or for to not make the change right after the second one. That's not Holder and he should've been pulled right then, no question.

Boone has done a good job of character building this year. He let German dig himself out of a bases loaded jam last time rather than call the pen. My guess is he wanted to let Holder dig himself out, figure out how to pitch through a loss of control. It builds confidence for the end of the year and post season.
I thought it was a dumb move yesterday, but maybe early on he is trying to bullet proof these guys. A teaching moment. Now he can get with Rothschild and the catchers look at film and think through the inning to see how to correct it.....
or it was just a dumbass moment.
Boone whiffed with the pen yesterday, but thankfully the Yanks Â
are good enough (and the Orioles suck enough) that we won anyway.
But overall Boone’s done a great job managing the pen through injuries and inconsistency. It helps that Kahnle, Britton, Ottovino and Chapman have been mostly excellent of course.
6-5, Yanks.
David Hale?
Maybe he can let one of our position players pitch to save the pen an inning here.
Maybe they're still miffed over Green pegging one of their guys in the ribs yesterday - but I can't imagine Givens would be looking to put anyone on in that spot.
Wasn't an easy one, but it doesn't matter.
15 over .500 now.

Green will probably be the 'can opener' tomorrow...
Bailed out Boone again, just dumb moves by him.
Anyway 4 game sweep. Hopefully a lesson learned. All wins are good wins.
Sad part is Masa not getting the win, which he deserved hanging in there.
Bullpen was fine - Boone effed up.
LOL, I heard that too. Flash is awful.
Love having Kenny in the booth when we're in Baltimore but Flash actually makes me miss Michael.
Was glad to see him back - love Jack.

Really? Blowing a 4 run lead is a nice job? LOL. He's easily the worst YES announcer and it's not close.

Bring back Al Leiter in the booth, oh wait.
