When that Challenger hit the huge and fairly easy Daily Double it looked pretty bad for James...something like 18k to 8k...then James hit on the pretty difficult geography true daily double and took over from there, but there was no time left to separate...
I don't think I have ever watched Jeopardy and had my heart pounding like that..haha
The best thing about seeing the run that guy is on Â
Is all the unbelievable whining from some people about it not being fair that he is winning so much. At first I thought these people have to be trolling, but now there's more and more of them and even people starting boycott Jeopardy campaigns until he is off. The fragile pysche of some humans never ceases to amaze.

Yup. Some people can't stand to see other people succeed and get rich doing it. It happens in business, sports, entertainment, you name it. People will hate a person simply because he's now famous or rich.
the only way to beat this guy is to true Daily Double or close to it, and most people are too conservative to do that. But he also gets nearly every other question right. The person who does end up beating him should also go on a run, honestly.

That type of phenomenon seemingly grows more and more.
Guy starts out winning and people are amazed. Then scorn starts to form because it is "unfair" to the other competitors. As a "Jeopardy" fan, I fucking love it. I love that you have to beat the champ, not just have a one day competition against other people.
The most ironic thing is that the people calling for him to be off the show probably couldn't make it anywhere close to qualifying.

Why would they want to see him off? They can’t be that envious of his success, are they?

and his messed up teeth. You won a $1 Million + time to go to the dentist and fix the crooked smile.
I'm ok with him dominating though. I would think normal Jeopardy viewers are getting bored with it not being competitive, but others are going to tune in to see if he loses.

I dont think his teeth are crooked, he just has a very unnatural smile.
His opponent failed to double up on daily double and it cost him. Only way to beat him is to beat him at his own game.
We haven't yet reached the point where his opponents have seen him on TV - all they know is that they're facing someone who's won a lot of money. It'll be interesting to see what happens if he surpasses the lag between show taping and airing.

He has a serious under-bite, that's why his smile is all messed up. He can't get that fixed until he loses.

You should tell that to Strahan! And he's probably earned ~$100M between the Giants and his post-NFL gigs.

Yep. The guy got cold feet on his second daily double. If he goes all in on that he wins.
No fear!!!
Yeah his competition needs to do exactly what he is doing or else they won't be able to win. Why be afraid to do it, if it's the only to win. It actually takes the pressure and thought process out of it when you land on the daily double.

Michael is different, it's apart of persona as a celeb.
Holzhauer has donated $10,000 to Project 150, a non-profit organization that aims to help homeless, displaced and disadvantaged high school students in more than 75 schools in Nevada.
The donation will be used to supply food and basic necessities to Southern Nevada teens.
He crushes every category, and seemingly has no areas of weakness. And he plays with speed and aggression. Tough guy to beat.
I love when Trebek tries to chime in with some of his usual post-answer banter and Holzhauer just cuts him off and asks for the next question. Trebek is pretty serious about "Jeopardy decorum". He corrects people on pronunciation, he hates when people skip around categories and dont start from the bottom, etc etc. I'm sure he respects the guy but I'd bet that at least a small part of him is being driven nuts.
early in his run, he made a comment about his strategy and one point his made is that it was important to stop treating the values and scores as actual money and instead treat it like points on a scoreboard. It freed him up to be more aggressive.
That's what his competitors need to do. They have to be aggressive; otherwise, their totals won't matter. They will end up with either $1K or $2K. That difference is nothing compared with the chance to win.
His sports-gambling and data analytics background have given him an understanding of "expected value" and so he plays aggressively knowing that more often than not, he knows the answer.
It was such a drag during the teachers' tournament when every player started at $200 and worked their way up in value.

This all started with participation trophies.

I don't get that impression. I think he's just really shy.

I'm with you.
But he’s not asocial, clearly has empathy (given his charitable and volunteer work) and has a good sense of humor.
It’s very entertaining to watch someone who is so extraordinary. We don’t get that opportunity very often.
