Here’s a small but great thing about a battery mower. Last night I realized I need to mow the lawn before heading out of town again. Took care of it real quick. Without annoying the neighbors. These things are super quiet. Amazing advantage earlykn a Saturday morning before the heat.
Re replacing batteries. Yeah, have to do it every4 years or so depending on use. But still cheaper and way more convenient than maintains a gas powered mower IMO.

Lol I have had a John Deere self propelled for the past 8 years... I only add gas to it, occasionally top off the oil. Never put a dime into it, starts every year on the first pull... how much do those batteries cost?
I'm planning to pick one up this weekend at home depot.

That's the one I bought two months ago - it's been excellent so far. For your reference, I've got about 1/4 acre and the "low battery" light typically comes on right as I'm finishing - that includes a second pass over some of the thicker/longer grass in my side yard.

Well a 7.5 aH EGO battery holds about 420 Wh of power and thus costs about 5-6 cents to charge so you can probably mow 0.25 acre lot for 10-12 cents. A 1/4 gallon of gas which is probably about what's needed for the same size lot is going to cost ~0.75 cents. So you're saving ~$15 on fuel each year (assuming you mow ~25 times per year).

cool story, but no one has answered my question. How much does the battery cost when you have to replace it? I add about $3 worth of gas to my lawn mower every time i fill it up... so I mow my lawn about twice a month (bi-weekly). Probably still less than the battery will cost after 4 years of mowing my lawn with a gas powered lawn mower.
At 12 cents/kWh for electricity, you probably spend $1.50 on electricity each growing season (twice/month for 6 months).
If it's $3 per mow for you, that's $36 per year. Plus spark plugs, air filters, oil changes, etc. You're lucky if you've gone 8+ years without replacing any of those.

I was thinking of buying an EGO but this changes things. If the batteries are that much, I'm essentially have to buy another lawnmower every 4 years. That's an expensive battery...
with 40 V batteries that are $150-175 depending on the capacity, though it looks like their are some off-brand knock-offs that supposedly work for <$100 (haven't tried any of these).
Also, battery costs will likely continue to drop over the next several years.
Also, I can't recall who, but I think one of the major tool manufacturers is coming out with (or already has) a battery mower that users 3-4 18V batteries in series to achieve the necessary power. Advantage here is if you have a ton of their handheld tools, you can use the same batteries. Link - ( New Window )

Bingo... if you're argument is its less noisy, no maintenance and you don't mind having to spend twice the amount you would for a gas mower, then good for you, but don't try and tell me you're saving any money here lol

Thanks for the info. That is about the size of my lawn as well.
A few months back I bought the Ego Leaf Blower - 110mph. It comes with a 56v, 2.5amp battery. This way I'll have 2 batteries, if needed, for the lawn.
But, the Leave Blower is AWESOME! I highly recommend an electric leave blower if you have a lot of leaves, pollen, buds, etc. I constantly have to blow off my deck, driveway, sidewalk, garage, etc. It is so much easier with the electric leave blower.
I bought 168mph Leave Blower: SKU #1002847189
And, this one comes with the 5Ah battery, which is another reason I went with it, since it matches what comes with the mower.
I have a lot of leaves and wanted to make sure I have enough power. Again, it works great for me.

That's my next purchase, definitely need that not just for the extra battery, my driveway and deck are mess at the moment. Thanks.

I agree. I buy a new mower every 3 years (current is Toro). I don't do any maintenance - just dump gas into. Use/abuse the thing and then I sell it on the swip/swap sites. It will start on the first pull and the next owner can worry about changing air filter/plug/oil/blade. Sell it for a hundred and buy the next one. I mow 2x a week during the summer and 1x a week during winter. I get a ton of use and essentially have a new mower without dealing with problems.
but I can't get anything with a Lithium Ion battery shipped to Hawaii. So stuck with the offerings at the big box stores. I have a very small amount of grass (done in 10 minutes), so I went super old school with a plug in electric and long power cord. No gas, no batteries, and if you wind the cord right, no tangles.

I love my electric mowers. I would never go back to gas.
Never have to buy gas, oil, spark plugs, do maintenance or mess with it in any way. Plus they're quiet, light and are much better for the environment.
The only downside is that you have to roll/unroll the cord every time you mow.
