not the starter I want (Keuchel), but hopefully he's just a couple weeks away.

New Post: Mets Sign RHP Ervin Santana To Minor League Deal https://metsmerizedonline.com/?p=291776 #Mets #LGM
How is this different than signing Hector Santiago or going after Wilmer Font? Santana is worse than all of them?

They FINALLY acknowledge they need another starter, and they opt for Santana over someone like Gio.

Agree, he's awful. no different than Font, only they didn't trade anyone for him.
It's a minor league deal, and who knows with the MLB veterans, sometimes they can come through in short stretches.

I think it's a good move. Sometimes these veterans surprise and end up becoming a solid contributor. See Anibal Sanchez last year.

Absolutely nothing wrong with the move.
The Mets should have made 2 or 3 moves like this in November/December.
my only point is you should not expect much from it, Santana has been un-startable for a year plus.
Options though. That's what you want to give your team.
Except that before coming to the Mets in his mid-30s, RA Dickey had been a steaming pile of poo. Santana was a solid starter.
Ya never know!
Always liked Santana
didn't fare well last or this season with CWS but he's been dealing with injuries with his fingers. Could be a nice spot starter to work with Vargas if healed
Yes.
Font has a career track record of being awful.
Santana is a better gamble IMO and didn't cost an 18 year old IFA the Mets signed (Neteraldo Catalina) less than a year ago with a mid-90's FB and a decent slider.

Michael Conforto (concussion) says he feels 100 percent, and could return from the injured list as soon as tomorrow.

Would you have believed me in spring training if I told you the Mets would open Memorial Day weekend with J.D. Davis, Carlos Gomez and Rajai Davis starting in the OF with Aaron Altherr available to come off the bench?
3:23 PM - 24 May 2019
The trade to go after him is fine. He has a few interesting traits. But, he doesnt look anywhere near ready to be starting games. I like to see some track record of success as a starter in AAA, or at least as a reliever in MLB, before having a guy start games
Font is out of options and IMO will not last the season on the roster.
For that, and his awful MLB track record, despite some minor league success, you give up an 18 year old who you spent the 4th most of your IFA budget on this past July?
Yeah, that sounds fine.

Former future Met Matt Kemp is reportedly now with the #Mets on a minors deal, per @Ken_Rosenthal.

So to summarize: the Mets added Matt Kemp and Ervin Santana today on minor league contracts and added Aaron Altherr to the major league roster.

Would be so Mets to only now have a contingency plan for Cespedes; given his track record of slow returns from being injured, there was very little reason to think that he would return anytime soon from his last injury (and that was before ankle fractures debacle).
It will also be so Mets like to pass on dallas keuchel when the fear of losing a draft pick passes in a few weeks, and send out a press release saying something to the effect of "we feel comfortable with the starters we have, plus we have Santana able to step in if needed".
It's not like Syracuse had a tons of players pushing to get major league AB's.
I think Tebow is still starting in the OF there.
And I doubt the Mets are comfortable with their starting group even with Santana as minors depth.
If they don't sign Keuchel it will be because either a) someone does before the draft or b) someone outbids the Mets - IMO

I don't see the Mets bidding at all. They'll maybe spew some nonsense about "reaching out to his agent", but they are too cheap to get in on him.
Prove me wrong.
(obv just messing :-P)
Prove me wrong.
When you are just not that good, but you compete it sort of fits most people's definition of gritty or gutsy.
if they hold on and win.

LOL...reverse psychology.

Stiff neck means the disc is inflamed. Probably do down in ten days with cortisone. But will probably also be nagging all year

Thats fine. Its hard to complement a team as gritty or gutsy when they are under .500 and are very inconsistent against worse teams. Sure, they CAN have gritty or gutsy wins but I wouldnt exactly characterize them as that.
The prove me wrong comment was for the team, not for other posters to prove me wrong lol.

I know, they're trying to, but "Thor" keeps working against them.
Expected. A guy who was hitting like .030 or something. Even funnier given they just told us Brox hit one 475 in his 1st AB w/ Baltimore
Called it
With a big mouth.
Mediocre
As exciting as the Ws were had they even gone 16-0 over this stretch, the telling part of the season came after it. Ironic the 4 Nats Ws made them 4-6 over the last 10 against awful teams
If just JDG & Thor hadn't fallen off early season, things would look different. But it's tough to get behind this team as a contender now, esp in the NLe. The only hope is the old 'it's a long season' and no one has taken a big the lead (tho Phi & Atl are moving up)
No. Brodie agrees with you. The two of you against the world

I think its Matt Harvey syndrome. We all saw it early but were in love w his golden mane. The NY media eats these egotisictial divas alive. Shame New York organizations dont study his and find ways to prevent these players from marketing themselves so poorly.

Especially when they have a case study for success right in their clubhouse with DeGrom. But hey, the NYC nightlife just too alluring for immature millionaires.
posted yesterday (in this thread), thanks though for anyone who didn't see it.

So true! For once the Mets kept the right guy. A reason I cant believe they let Murphy walk...for such a low risk salary too. Thst was my final breaking point w Mets btw. Letting a guy leave who could handle NY met media so well for what really was a rather fair contract.
Also when they let olerud walk. To me Zeile was Neil Walker before Neil Walker.
