Mind you we're winning the games but pitchers are rolling along and then in 3 or 4 batters it just falls apart. Like I said we're winning the games any way but it seems like its happening every game. Happ wasn't just pitching well. He was absolutely dominating.
Hamilton is easily the worst hitter in baseball and has been his entire career. Right now his OPS is .588. and wRC+ is 60. He is nearly an automatic out with zero power. The only reason his WAR isn't negative is because his defense is very good. But it is not Andruw Jones HOF good. He has never won a gold glove and UZR has him defensively behind CFers like Lorenzo Cain, Ender Inciarte and Jackie Bradley Jr.
He shouldn't be starting or getting regular abs in any lineup.
That's the opener nonsense. Can't say I agree with it but the Yanks are in a spot with CC, Paxton and Severino injured so they don't have a choice. Plus it's the 2nd game of a doubleheader so sometimes you have to piece that game together with the bullpen. I'd like to see Chance Adams get a shot in the meantime
...was he considered a key prospect (highly rated) in the Yanks minor league system?
yes, I think so - maybe not *the* top prospect at any time, but he played well consistently in the minors. He was an all-star at AA level with Trenton. His getting shot led to him not really having a year last year, so he has been out of the picture and has only now gotten back into it.

Yeah, he got shot in Venezuela...forgot about that. That's why he didn't play much last year

I believe I read he still has the bullet in his hip.
On the Yanks website, not listed as 'Top 30' prospect.
He is making the most of the opportunity, that's what it's all about...
about guys from our system doing well in a pennant race is that it puts a halo effect on other prospects. So does our reputation for picking undervalued winners
A year ago a German was up and down. Now he may be a rare commodity. Ditto Estrada ...a good fielding infielder who can hit.
He’s much more of a complete hitter than the Shane Spencer-type flash in the pan home run in bunches guy he was labeled as by some last season. He’s also been very solid in the field - not great, but nowhere near a liability.
Newest Yankee-Breyvic Valera has just been killing it since coming over from the Giants. He is hitting .364 with 5 homers including a GW Grand Slam in his 1st 10 games as AAA Scranton Yankee. In his first AB tonight, he just doubled.
Deivi Garcia just turned 20 on May 19th. He is the second youngest player in baseball in AA. Tonight he just struck out the side in the first inning.
With Chance Adams up to the Yankees tonight, the Yankees had to go to Tampa (High A) to grab Shawn Semple to pitch tonight's game. Huge jump from High A to AAA. Lets see how he does in tonight's home start.
is some info on newest Yankee Breyvic Valera, who has played 7 different position during his years in AAA (no pitching or catching) Link - ( New Window )
And overall it’s clear there’s a lot to like about this team, the front office and Boone - but how many days off does our best hitter need? Gary sits Thursday after TORCHING the birds, only to come in for a productive PH ab in the 9th that fueled the winning run. Now off tonight after a rain out yesterday. Benched for two games in three days with an off day in between. He’s our best hitter. I didn’t expect him to catch both today, but DH would have been nice tonight.
Really excellent work. Overcoming some serious disappointments (about three outs worth and three runs that wouldn't have been rung up to him) without strain and lots of strikes thrown.
Adams could have sued for non-support with that defense.
Glad they didn't let the game get away, and a sweep.
Romine did a good job in the 9th, navigating Chapman
thru the inning. I thought he stole a couple strikes too,
the guy couldn't throw a fastball for a strike.
Then on the last pitch of the game, throws a pee down the
middle for a called strike, I had to start laughing there.
All's well that ends well.
at best defensively, but he has the tools (speed and arm) to be above average.
Gardy is one of my favorites but his defense has been below his ability this year. He seems much more comfortable in LF vs CF.
I guess we can expect to see Didi in a couple weeks. Will be real interesting to see what Cash decides with the IF and bench. Estrada will go to SWB for sure. I have no idea what they will do with Tulo if he gets healthy. Do they dare send Urshela to SWB?

Morales
Frazier
Maybin
I think Urshela stays at least until Tulo returns.

.
Tulo might have trouble getting back on this roster.
They like Urshela too much now, and Tulo is far too injury prone.
They only brought him in, because Yanks were paying league min.,
the Jays were paying the rest.
If he had a big salary attached, would not have brought him in here. He lasted three games this year...
The haters have a abated for now...
Nice tack on run there from Gardy and Gio.
3-3
damnit.
Nice tack on run there from Gardy and Gio.
You jinxed him
Is it okay to 'hate' Happ again? Heh.

I knew I couldn't stop you, Dave. It was only a matter of time before he regressed anyway. It might as well be in this start.
But 6 innings of 3 run ball is a quality start... for how useless that stat is.

I'm just joshin' with you, brother. :)
Yep. Hell, the team itself keeps on keepin' on. Incredible.
Boone was told Paxton felt no additional pain today after his turn yesterday, which is decent news.
At this point it is pretty clear he has taken Wade's spot on the team.
Luke's bomb was 479 feet. Damn he is a beast.

because we are going to have to start getting our better players back pretty soon.

Good news.

Luke to Gary- "Hold my beer"
He seems like potentially a top 5-10 1B. Never an all star, but a good player. If he could become a good fielder, he'd add tremendously to his upside.

that this is what Voit is going to be going forward and that he's not a flash in the pan? And "that" is a good, solid, consistent player.

I may be selling him a bit short here actually. I didn't realize his OPS+ is 130. That's Tex level.
Big power from Luke to win the game in the 7th, and insurance RBI from Thairo Estrada in the 8th

Check out the AL 1b this year. He could easily be an all star this year. He's right there with E5 and Jose Abreu.

If Tyler Wade was hitting like Thairo, he’d still be up with the big club.

Yup, it’s Estrada’s spot now. And, yeah, a big beast! Loving all of it.

I just went through the AL looking at each team's first baseman this year. Voit was top 5 among those players.
& friends in his home state!
Who's starting game 2?

Yep PIX 11.

He was considered an average prospect for the most part. I think he was injured most of last year so he was not high on the radar at all

...much appreciated!
He's going to be responsible for eating most of the innings as the guy after the opener
6-2 Yanks
He really does.
Frazier is a very good bat but an average outfielder, so you have to play him for his bat because he can change a game with one swing
Quote:
Gawd he sucks!

He is well below average. An average OF makes that one play 80% of the time. Clint? If he makes it once it would be surprising.

Kind of agree with this.
Chapman has been rough the last couple or three games. I'm worried about the knee.
Good doubleheader sweep. Doesn't matter the quality of the other team, sweeping a doubleheader or a series is hard, very hard.
True and amazingly so.

I doubt he'd pass through waivers to be assigned to SWB. Somebody will pick him up.
