Let’s say Beal continues to pan out as a solid starting outside CB, do you put Baker in the slot, in keeping with the theory of having your best players on the field? Baker seems to be a prototypical outside CB, but it would sure be cool to potentially have 3 shut-down-caliber corners out there on third downs. Is slot CB that much of a different skill set than playing on the outside?
Next season JR will be released saving 11.2 mil and Baker and Beal will be the outside cb and either Love or someone else will be the slot.
I would like to see Love moved to FS permanently (at least next season). Its easier to find a slot cb than a starting FS.
either way we have fantastic depth at cb this year!!
...that guy we drafted out of Georgia plays on the outside. What I saw of him in college is that he's like flypaper wrapped around receivers!
One, how many shutdown corners are there anymore? Two, you would rather have a shutdown corner cut than have one on the bench? Yeah, that makes perfect sense.
That being said the optimism here about our defensive backs is insane! I think JJ returns to form this year and Peppers arrow is pointing up and will be one of the best safeties in the game. On the flip side Bethea is old as dirt and people are expecting ROOKIE corners, Beal included, to come in and play at an absurd level. History has shown otherwise. Most good corners come in the league and struggle for most of their first season. It is the hardest position from college to NFL hands down.
You see the same thing in the draft. People getting way to excited about late round draft picks, or projecting Pro Bowl level play to 1st and 2nd round picks right out the gate. It is insane. Saw someone in another thread say the Eagles had the best draft and not to worry about their offensive line because they drafted the best LT in the draft at 22. LT's that can come in and play at an NFL level do not last all the way to 22 except in the most rare of circumstances.
Also, just to agree with whoever said playing the outside and playing the slot require completely different skill sets couldn't be more right.
With the number of promising DB's we have this year and with the promising play of Haley last year, maybe we'll finally have the slot corner that can get us off the field on 3rd down.
Quote: If both Baker and Beal are the real deal and are both shutdown corners. Jackrabbit will end up cut to save cap space. You can't leave a shutdown corner on the bench. /////////

And I don't think I'm alone in assessing his play last year: down year? For sure. 2018, down year (good start, then down hill). I believe the quality of his play is directly related to whether a season, a possible berth, a team possibly on the rise, is on the line. When a season goes to hell and a handbasket, yeah, his motivation and focus suffer. Ideal, no, but for some reason, maybe not just positionally, DG and PS have kept him around even when the other products of the 2016 splurge were traded at positions of equivalent need.
We have several promising, young CB's. where they play will become evident very quickly.
No, Giants org need to waste roster spots on scholarships, mascots and 2 QBs behind an iron man QB.

Absolutely. and he’s a strong tackler too. Amazing that we got him, can’t wait to see him on the field
