Even after he beat the Giants in '61 and '62, and with our bottom falling out in '64, it was fun to root for him and the Packers against the hated Unitas Colts and Cowboys--to say nothing of the upstart AFL--for the rest of the decade.
once the Giants were out of it (which, in the mid 60's, was always) especially against the Cowboys. Great clutch player. At the time, he was never put at the same level as Unitas, or even Gabriel, as throwers. He couldn't scramble like Tarkenton. All he ever did was win. A great quarterback of a great team. RIP.
I had heard he had Alzheimer's, saw a report awhile back on him. So I am not really surprised by the sad news.
Even though he beat the Giants a couple times in the playoffs in the early 60's when I was a 'youngin,
always had great respect for the man.
More importantly, so did Vince Lombardi!
RIP
Being Vince Lombardi's QB for years, not to be underestimated.
RIP to one of that era's greats.
That who I grew up on... Starr and Tittle!
R.I.P.
How many rounds did they have back then? Today he would have been an undrafted free agent - who might never had been signed?
Winner of the first 2 SBs. Lombardi had a great team back then.
RIP legend.

Master of the play action on 3rd and one.
I think there were only 12 teams when he was drafted so he would have been a pick in the 190s. That would have made him a 6th round pick today.

Sid Luckman with the Bears in '41 & '46 is the only other one to do so.
RIP
RIP to the real deal--man and quarterback.
