We finally get Conforto back today but honestly with Alonso taking a day our lineup is still putrid. Gotta hope for a good performance from Wheeler today if we want to get back to .500. Hopefully, some more players will start trickling in over the next week or so. Nimmo's injury is serious and he's been playing with a bulging disc in his spine. Not timeline on his return. LGM!
I guess. JD Davis sitting for Frazier infuriates me ten times more. We need all hands on deck while everyone is out.
Quote:
Dom Smith to fill in. I hope that when Nimmo comes back, he comes back 100% and can contribute like he did last season.

Feel the same way. I hope the Mets DFA Frazier when (and if) we get Lowrie back
Wheeler went long enough no 7th inning guy needed.
Familia did his job.
Now insurance runs would be nice but Diaz should finish this.
-Hech making a bid for cleanup, another 3 run HR
-Dom w/ 3 hits
-Gomez w/ a stellar diving grab in LF
-Loved the Frazier bunt hit away from the shift. They were discussing players don't like it, but it should be obvious and be practiced / required. Still should have JD in, but Todd is hitting of late
Hopefully Diaz starts another stretch of successful saves here...
Mariano pitched poorly in the 1997 postseason and flat out blew game 7 in the 2001 World Series. Yanks could have won 6 championsips in a row if Mariano had not blown those games.
Yet no one seriously doubts Mariano is the greatest of all-time.
My point?
Every closer blows games. But Diaz has the stuff and make-up to be a great one. He is a killer on the mound.
So 28% of their losses have come in games in which they scored six or more.
Phillies have lost four.
I usually get over losses quickly but that one on Friday sticks with me. Thor gives up 4 and the Mets come back to take the lead not once but twice and Thor gives it right back up, not once but twice.
Then they take the lead again and Mickey inexplicably leaves career minor leaguer Gagnon in for three runs.
Against a team that had lost 9 in a row.
Thor has been pitching to a 5.00 ERA - so no surprise about his ineffectiveness. Gagnon has actually been pitching well so I'm fine with going to him in relief. My issue is Mickey using Thor for as long as he did knowing full well how bad he was pitching. I have no idea how this guy got such a good reputation as a pitching coach.
This team is about as inconsistent as it comes. Pitch well, can't hit. Hit well, can't pitch. It's been like this with the Mets for ages. I'm sure this happens to all teams. But good teams are able to correct this. Good teams.
This is a third place team if I've ever seen one. Which is exactly how the FO went about the offseason.
