Tarmo Reunanen signed, adding more depth to an absolutely packed left defense side. I don't know anything about him, but NYRTwitter seem to love him. Think he may have top-4 potential. Boy would it be nice to rid ourselves of Staal and Smith. Get cap space and free up minutes for the young guys.
Meanwhile, we're still getting either Jack Hughes or Kaapo Kakko, but it remains to be seen what our neighbors across the Hudson may do. Either way, both guys should be stars. We also have the #20 pick, and we have two late second rounders.
I met Rod Gilbert for the second time in my life...that was cool.
So that's it for now. Haven't heard much from the JD/Gorton camp, as everything so far has been kept under wraps.
As for Karlsson, stay away. They already have a dman just like him in Shattenkirk. Karlsson is (was?) a great player, but the last couple of years he's had some bad injuries. What they need is a couple of those boring dmen that, you know, play defense.

I agree stay away from Karlsson (unless you are a contender today and can get a short-term deal), but even a gimpy Karlsson is not close to Shattenkirk.
As recently as game 4 of the western conference finals, Karlsson was dominating - impacting the entire pace and play of the game.
And this is after scoring the OT game winner in game 3 (albeit controversially)
Didn't know about celiac, but they talked about his diabetes at the U18 and U20 worlds.
what is celiacs? Is that like chron's?

People with celiac's disease have to maintain a gluten free diet. Gluten triggers essentially an allergic reaction. Long term there are studies that show increased odds of getting cancer but day to day someone with celiac's with a normal diet are generally mostly fine.

Thanks bud, wish you were still posting on Mets threads, you know misery does love company. LOL.
He transformed the sharks.
So, to me, Panarin would be business as usual for the Rangers. A guy who is good but not going to lift the team to the next level.Rangers have done that again and again
Karlsson has no equivalent in Rangers history other than Messier and Jagr. Messier won a cup and Jagr might have if not for the strike or come close.
I think EK has five good years left. Go for the gold instead of the bronze.
This is off base.
You're completely dismissing the injury aspect for Karlsson. Going back to the foot issue he was playing through when we played the Senators in the playoffs 2 years ago. He just had groin surgery.
Games played for EK the last 4 years....

Seeing the trend?
He transformed the Sharks how? His own coach basically said they didn't have him on the ice long enough for that.
He's a great player, but he's not great if he's not on the ice - and I'm not sure I see him cranking out 75+ game seasons again any time soon.
Panarin would be safer and smarter.

Just adding a future star in Kakko isn't going to transform the Rangers into an immediate contender. Having Panarin and Kakko gives you more hope especially if Kravtsov can play like a first rounder.

I didn't say they were comparable, just the same type. Offensively gifted, defensively deficient. Shatty has had his injury problems after signing with the Rangers so it's not they signed damaged goods. If they sign Karlsson with his recent injury history then they're asking for trouble. Karlsson may not be old, but injuries become more prevalent as they get older and he's not going to sign for only a couple of years.
Trade Kreider.
Hayes hasn't signed with Philly yet

I wonder what the impact will be of AV on his signing with the Flyers?

Exactly. That's my question.
Hopefully a non issue and he’s as great as we all hope / have read he can be. But I still think we’re idiots if we sign any FAs this summer. Want to retool in a year ... fine... but there is no point trying to compete this coming season and I’d still like to see the next expansion draft parameters before I’m locking in roster spots.
Hopefully, I pray, just offseason bullshit to try and get season tickets excited and to renew .... this Karlsson and other Hail Mary bullshit is insanity
Concerning article - ( New Window )

I find some bullshit in that article, particularly the lack of interest in Shattenkirk at 50% retained. So Uncle Larry is saying that there isn't a team that would offer him 3.325M per on the open market? I find that hard to believe.
They should do what I suggested, trade one (or both) with draft picks for the cap relief and to make room for the youngsters.
It's the new "buyout"
trading to teams who need cap space.
I'd rather send a 3rd or 4th round pick for a team like Arizona or Ottawa to take Staal than buy him out. And there are teams who need to add cap space.
They should keep Shattenkirk. Let him play on the second or third pair and let him mentor Fox and TDA. Besides,
he's better than Pionk. It makes absolutely no sense to buy out Shattenkirk.
Since Staal has a NMC, he can't be buried in the AHL, but Smith can. I'd put Smith in the AHL, we save $1.075 on the cap, while incurring the $3.275 on the books.
With Staal, I'd look for a team that has a ton of cap room, and see what we'd need to add. I know these trades with a sweetener can be a little painful (Chicago dumping Bickell and needing to add Teuvo), but I'd be shopping that around.
I'm fine with keeping Shatty here for now.
What would Kreider get in return on Draft night? High move up packaged with NYR's 48th pick? Mid level 1st?
Besides, the Coyotes can always say "uncle" and realize hockey in Arizona is a bad idea and just relocate to Seattle :P
After this year (assuming they make their picks) the Rangers will have added 7 1st round picks to their system in 3 drafts.
If Zucc re-signs (and nothing else changes) that would be 9 in 4 years.
And they have 3 seconds this year too.

They have two seconds this year. Both are late second rounders.

I read the Stars consider themselves contenders for 2020 and are likely (or at least strongly considering) re-signing Zuccarello.

Right, I forgot they traded away their 2nd round pick for Fox. Consider him a draft pick/youth infusion.

He said he was diagnosed in 2015 so unless the Devils (and others were 100% kept in the dark) teams likely knew before fans did.
Furthermore what if that occurred and he wound up resigning with Dallas after 7/1?
I know these are not likely scenarios, I was just curious.
Every reputable scout and scouting service has Hughes 1st and Kakko 2nd. Plus you have to think with the Devils strong ties to USA hockey (Shero and the Coach) they almost have to select the unanimously higher rated American Hughes - at least that's my read.

It certainly seems that way. Hughes 1 and K 2.
#15 on the jersey but #1 in our hearts - ( New Window )

I don't mind it. Glass, the player was absolutely atrocious, but the guy is no dummy (went to Dartmouth), he was seemingly very well-liked in the locker room and actually seems like a really good dude off the ice. And frankly, he made the most out of his (very) limited skillset by carving out an actual lengthy NHL career.

That backhand from the face off over Price's shoulder still haunts me.

The skill on that play was off he charts. Don’t beat yourself up - Price had not shot. Summer clinics are teaching kids across America that technique.

I love Cozens, but why another C? Do they think Andersson isn't a C?
I would make that trade too - also clears cap space for Panarin.

I literally only watched and know about Hughes, Kakko and some of Moritz Seider so I'm going to defer to you on this.
If you take Lucic back, you don't give up Kreider IMO.
Lucic is a crippling contract for a cap strapped team, to bail them out of that you don't also give Kreider even if you get #8.
But he is a player I'd target on a team with cap space.
but I'd want a quality player back and now that Draisatl proved he could "carry a line" I'd target Nugent-Hopkins who is really a 2c playing 3c for EDM.
Yep. Seems like a foregone conclusion.
Yeah, you either give them Kreider or you take on Lucic. Doing both is extremely stupid.
Most of the cash is already paid, so it may be relatively less of a liability for a small market team that doesn't come close to spending at the cap limits.
Tony DeAngelo said it was bullshit
