On talent alone he would have been a 2nd or 3rd round pick last year. There is no harm in claiming him. Let him know that lateness/absence will not be tolerated. If he acts up cut him.

see if your coaching staff can turn a talented guy at a position of need into a good pro. Cut your losses quickly and lose nothing if it doesn't work out.
