Was a major letdown. They could’ve done so much more with that one. The second episode was a little better, Andrew Scott is a hell of an actor and it showed. I’m watching the third one now. Overall it hasn’t lived up to the previous seasons at all and with it only being 3 episodes that was another major letdown as well
I started a thread already buy I'll just copy and past what I said Â
So thoughts on the new season? I thought the hostage one was one of the best in the series. All the little details that helped tell the story were fantastic. From the end music credits, to the kid getting bored when he finds out the gun is "fake", and Topher Grace giving an authentic opinion of what the social media magnates really feel about their platformz and their intentions going in.
The VR one made me feel uncomfortable as a scratchy, wool sweater and when we are talking about Black Mirror that is a good thing.
The Miley Cyrus one was entertaining at first, as it went on it never went anywhere. What was the underlying message? L The exploitation of pop stars? Why do I give a fuck about that, that whole episode felt un Black mirror like. There was so much suspension of disbelief.
in a 3 episode season. However, I notice the main premise of the second one was completely lost on some people. Lots of this was a don't text and drive PSA or social media bad. I see why subtlety is a dying art form. The audience has lost critical thinking ability. The main premise was our addiction to it and how that is now how it is designed. That we have very little choice in the matter. There were other themes such as desensitization in support of this theme, but that was the main one. And worse than the new twilight zone? Cmon.
there are a lot of times that i think the posters on this site nit pick and complain to the point where its a little silly
but i watched the first 2 Black Mirror episodes of season 5, and holy hell is it really bad.
Especially the hostage one. A guy is going to call the CEO of a social media company because he was looking at his phone and killed his wife? Really? what if it was a text instead, is he going to call the phone company CEO? that was just stupid.
but maybe the worst is the one about the guy angry at the corporation kidnapping someone. That's like an incredibly old trope that goes back far before technology.
If Black Mirror had one thing going for it, it was coming up with plotlines driven uniquely by technology and futurism.
I'd honestly have rather 2 episodes than that one. It's a complete betrayal of the foundations of the show.

Technology wasnt even advanced at all in that episode. Its supposed to take place in the near future and it was more of a right now episode.

Yeah agreed. And I think that isn't what the show is supposed to be about. I think if they were going to make it based today (which is kind of a departure from what makes them unique and great) they should at least come up with an original plot line and the disgruntled employee trying to get the attention of a CEO of a large corporation isn't that

the miley episode was great. not as twisted or mind bending as a normal black mirror episode but very entertaining

Am i going to hate the 3rd episode?
