This is why some people hate to post on here and why I do it infrequently. What is it about some people that have to attack others personally. Why can't this forum be used to have civil discussion and polite disagreement among Giant fans.

Phrases like, "Eli Persecution Syndrome", "EliFanboy gene mutation" or "Giant fans insecurities.." really enhances dialogue between supposed Giant fans. I guess it makes certain people feel like they're above the rest.

Hey, what do I know. I could be arguing with some kid living in his parents basement.

How is this any different then anywhere else? We see an increasing number of people who attack anyone for having a different opinion than them. Many of the people who claim to be tolerant are actually the opposite. It's sad to see society headed down this road where people try to silence anyone with a different opinion.

The Eli debates..
FatMan in Charlotte : 6/6/2019 4:29 pm : link
are perplexing because there is a fairly large faction of posters who make it seem like a bad thing to root for the guy. Like wonderback said about the monikers of a fanboy club and similar derisive tags - it is very one-sided.

If you defend Eli, you get barraged with a bunch of posters acting like they are just being objective by shitting on the guy. Hell, even ron has to include the observation that "The one thing that isn't wrong, is OBJ's comments".

Exactly what is that supposed to mean? And why is it even referenced? Why, because it furthers his consistent take that Eli is done and the incessant need to point it out.

But hey - it's just objectivity, so who gives a fuck if I keep shitting on an all-time great Giant?

The problem with the Eli debates
ron mexico : 6/6/2019 4:52 pm : link
Are when people inset them where they are needed. Obj didn't mention Eli here. The press asked him other questions to try to bait him into taking a shot at the Giants and he refused. Even Dep saw it for what it was, a compliment to his QB and if you heard the full interview, a reason why their timing has a way to go.

I root for the guy as much as anyone here (I know that is hard to believe) but Not everything is about Eli.

For fuck sakes, people were upset that Collins had the gall to compliment Webb when he was in the team as if that was a shot at Eli.

And to clarify my point, Leonard is a hack, certain certain giant fans are way too sensitive about Eli and OBJ said nothing insubordination wrong here.
I keep getting sucked back into this
wonderback : 6/6/2019 4:59 pm : link
I'm not even that much of an Eli supporter (or fan boy or whatever). I can see the other side of the argument. He gets paid a lot of money. He's a bit one-dimensional. He's getting up there in age.

I get it.

It's getting close to pulling the trigger on him, but the vitriol thrown at him by some on this site is beyond the pale.

Maybe I feel like he's been jobbed throughout his career. The guy's won two super bowls for god's sake. Never really got his due.

And don't get me started on the Giants Offensive Line issues over that past, what, eight years now. The right side of the line they put out there last year was an absolute joke. No one could have played QB behind that line. No one!!!

The emphasis with the people who have been frustrated with our team the last few years has been on Eli rather than the line.

I'll agree the thrust of my problem with this piece should have been more on Leonard.

Also, didn't mean to pick a fight with others on this board.

the “city by the lake”. big hit for big ego with big dreams.

for me, always sad to see physical talent betrayed by a distorted narcissism, but it seems to be in fashion. good bye #13.
Didn’t Odell
BBelle21 : 6/6/2019 7:32 pm : link
dislocate a finger from one of Eli’s passes?? To be fair, he just seemed to be commenting on how he needs to adjust. Eli was never known for having a super powerful arm like a Jay Cutler type. Receivers have always said Eli throws a beautiful ball and a very catchable ball placed perfectly. Hope Odell wasn’t being petty, but, more likely, Leonard was just being a jerk.
The real problem with these Eli debates...
bw in dc : 6/7/2019 1:43 am : link
is that not enough people realize how great these debates actually are. And fail to properly embrace them.

It’s a great topic because Eli is one of the most polarizing players in the league. He’s a paradox. Eight incredible weeks that resulted in two SB wins. But then a regular season career full of inconsistency on the field. Which has led to speeding up the debate on whether Eli belongs in Canton.

And now we have this new layer where we invested the #6 pick in the draft on a QB who may actually be even more controversial than Eli.

What an interesting time this is...

But no. Lets stay away from these hot button topics and return to our regularly scheduled program of milquetoast BBI...

even true and an invention of those looking to either hang the woes lately solely on Eli or are looking to take shots at him:

These debates aren't great. There's not even really a debate. It is one side saying that Eli is done and they keep using any tidbit to start a thread on it. There isn't some other side saying Eli is a top tier QB and shoving it down the board's throat. How many threads are started proclaiming Eli's greatness? Because there is at least a thread a day discussing his decline

And Eli hasn't had a career full of inconsistency on the field. He's had two stages of his career. One where he went 8 straight seasons without a losing record and a second half of a career with 5 out of 6 seasons with a losing record.

Basically these threads are fodder for posters to intentional tweak others. It's basically a long-troll job. And it isn't surprising in the least why bw thinks there's a debate. Without these threads, he'd have very little to comment on.
Some truths and some not on both sides of the debate
Jimmy Googs : 6/7/2019 8:19 am : link
for certain. So to argue one-side has taken the debate too far is ridiculous.

Point the finger at anybody/anything you want over the recent past within this franchise as to why, but the team has not performed well. And Eli is not at a stage anymore to make a meaningful difference on altering this trend. Some saw that a few years ago, some see it now, and some still don't see it clearly at all.

Hence the debate...

Simple solution for you - then don’t participate.

You avoid exposure to ponderous and obtuse behavior; and we avoid your sanctimony.

A win-win.
Eli wasn’t inconsistent during those regular seasons
djm : 6/8/2019 7:38 pm : link
Fans just don’t know how to evaluate the qb position within the team concept. That’s why these fun debates are annoying.

Eli has had a weird up n down career because the giants were a weird up and down team. When Eli had a good OL he delivered. Shit he threw for 8500 yards and 65 tds over a 2 year wretch when the OL sucked balls and there was no running game. Eli never had a bad year under coughlin except once, 2013. Eli played well enough with bozo the clown as HC in 2016.

Eli was the only offensive player that was consistent from 2005 on. He’s the correlation as to why the giants offense usually scored 400 plus pts every year save for 13 and 17.

Now he’s winding down but I think he can still play and I think these rumors of lost arm strength are nothing more than bullshit hot takes from unaccountable outlets.
Tiki was great
djm : 6/8/2019 7:42 pm : link
Beckham was great. Plenty of good or great players here but they never lasted and some were a pain In the ass. Most were “inconsistent” or oft injured. But the guy that was always there was eli. No Eli and The giants aren’t relevant these last 15 years.

If Eli was drafted by the pats he’d have more rings.
