"One thing I've never lost sleep over is speed," Slayton said with a smile after Thursday's practice that concluded the Giants' three-day minicamp. "I know I'm gonna be able to put pressure on guys. I know I'm gonna be able to run by guys. It's just a matter of, obviously this is the NFL, there are other guys who can run, too. We've got guys like Jackrabbit who can run right with a guy like me, but at that point, like they say, it comes down to who's got the best technique and that's something I'm learning as I go. [Wednesday], I caught a ball, I ran all the way down the field and I was just like, 'You know, I can do this.'" ... Asked to name a player who has stood out the most of the newcomers, rookies and veterans, Giants coach Pat Shurmur praised Slayton for how much he has improved. "To know they've taken notice is definitely huge for me," Slayton said. "I mean, it was kinda one of those things where, it's just your first day, as a rookie, you want to be super that first day and do everything right. But in reality, you just kinda gotta calm down, just play ball, and that's something I've been able to do as we've gone on, be around our vets, and they're all really confident, smart guys and definitely helped me along the way." |
