ESPN analyst Todd McShay says he is under consideration for a job under new Jets General Manager Joe Douglas. “Joe is considering multiple options and I’m one of the options,” McShay told Rich Cimini of ESPN. McShay and Douglas were teammates for two years at the University of Richmond, so the two have known each other a long time. McShay has no experience working in an NFL front office. |
Yeah, I'm sure he'll chime in when his folks allow him some computer time.

Give him some time. He's probably still sleeping off the Spaghetti-O's and Hawaiian Punch.

This kid said that he didn't want Le'Veon Bell in FA before the Jets signed him. After they did sign Bell he raved about the hire because they got him "cheap".
I don't know McShay's backstory. What is it?
In which he won 2 superbowls.
He attended the University of Richmond, where he was a walk-on for the Spiders in 1995 and served as a scout-team quarterback[4] before sustaining a back injury that ended his college career.
McShay had worked as an undergraduate team equipment manager at the University of Richmond before landing an internship with former NFL scout Gary Horton in 1998. Following graduation, McShay worked full-time for "The War Room", (1999–2006) a start-up publication created by Horton eventually bought by ESPN and renamed "Scouts Inc."
He joined ESPN in 2006 as a football analyst, providing in-depth scouting information on college football players across the country.

you would see how much of a joke this is. I am now convinced meritocracy is a myth.

He was an intern or PA or whatever at ESPN and they decided to have a foil to Mel Kiper and choose him. Dude knew absolutely nothing and they gave him a year long crash course. He has gotten a bit better throughout the years, but his first year was an absolute joke. Just shows you how networking has become more important than ever and no one actually cares if you can do a job anymore. I mean this guy is in consideration to become an assistant GM. You've gotta be fucking kidding me.
His 2007 draft class played a big part in that run but yes Accorsi did build much of that roster. His resume is infinitely more impressive than McShay's. If you want to knock someone knock Ross.
+1
Sometimes good management means recognizing and taking advantage of people's talents, while limiting what you ask them to do, so to avoid their weaknesses. That's what good coaches do. If the new guy thinks McShay has an exploitable talent, ok. If it doesn't work out, they can always let him go.
Mayock has been courted by teams for years. He has turned down FO jobs in the past. Mayock is light years ahead of McShay.

funnier is that Jerry Reese was a GM for 10 years.
In which he won 2 superbowls.
The rabid anti-Reese people believe that it was all EA and Gettleman's work and Reese simply prevented us from winning 4-5 Superbowls.
Or Todd McShay...someone who has worked on professional scouting for 20 years...is being considered for a scouting job.
Lighten up guys...you know nothing about the important details of this job. Move on to something else...
Mayorck is legit, has his ears to the ground, knew we were drafting Justin Puke. McShay... Nothing. ...
And where are you getting your information from? If Joe Douglas was the most coveted exec why didn’t any of the other teams that hired new GM’s not hire him? You’re clearly an expert on Joe Douglas even though you didn’t know who he was two weeks ago.

Good post Sy. McShay is no slouch and has really impressed me with his insights over the years. He is not just some football foil for Kiper.

But we got Joe Douglas, who is the best and most coveted young exec in the NFL, so if HE wants McShay then yes, I'm going to trust his judgement.

It's pretty well known he's among if not the most coveted young exec in football. It's been mentioned by anyone and everyone who's in the know in the NFL.
He's also not a very easy get. He was already in an enviable situation with one of the NFL's best run franchises in Philly. He likes it in the northeast, didn't want to leave the area. The Jets had Gase and Darnold. Gase and Douglas are friends and on the same page in terms of football philosophy. All 3 are represented by the same agent. And the Jets anted up. An exec of his caliber is not going to come cheap

Long overdue post. Great job Sy. Knowing nothing never stops the know it all's on BBI.

He won with Accoris talent in 2008

We all give Reese his due for the two Super Bowls however much the core was Acorsi's. But you can't have a 20% hit rate on your draft picks over last seven years and pass it off to someone else. Its seven years not three. He was the GM and if Ross sucked he hired him and then didn't fire him. He was the boss so let's not sugar coat it.
In addition and has to be repeated. He had an immobile QB and didn't think the offensive line was a priority. When the light went off in his head he had to rebuild it, he couldn't.
20% hit rate and structurally couldn't figure it out. Enough said.

Loved him before Piazza. Sad to see them stick him in LF like that with a wrecked elbow and watching him trying to play. A forgotten man with the Mets
It's the same, snarky, drive-bye experts, as well.

There's a name I never expected to hear ever again in life after my Albany years haha. Fly 92.3 morning DJ. Iirc he also started doing some hosting / announcing or the like with WWE after that. Also iirc, classic mullet

I think he was with 95.5 WPLJ until the bitter end (they're a religious rock station now)

Todd McShay will remain in his role as an ESPN draft analyst rather than continue to pursue a front office position with the Jets, according to Chris Mortensen of ESPN.com (Twitter link). Meanwhile, Bears assistant director of player personnel Champ Kelly — who interviewed for the Jets’ GM position before it went to Joe Douglas — is a candidate to join Gang Green in a different capacity and indeed is likely to be hired, per Rich Cimini of ESPN.com and Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio (Twitter links).
