First off let me say I really like Nate Burleson I think he is really good at his job as an analyst, usually very smart with well thought out comments. But this is the stupidest thing i have EVER heard in over 40 years of following football and it isn't even close.I know alot of these shows thrive on saying outlandish shit just to get people talking during the off season but this is beyond idiotic. His credibility took a big hit in my eyes after this non-sense
Unbelievable!! - (

Kerry Collins had a better arm than Eli.
Kerry Collins had a better arm than Eli.
This isn't about a rocket arm. It's about a guy who hasn't played in a single NFL game (even an exhibition game) and wasn't a can't-miss prospect to begin with being declared already better than Eli Manning.
Kerry Collins had a better arm than Eli.
True and KC was not a better QB than Eli.But to declare Haskins a better QB without ever taking a live snap is beyond asinine
Ironically, if somebody had said Eli as a rookie in camp was better than say Donovan McNabb, there'd probably be an insinuation of racism made.

This isn't a shocking statement. Eli doesn't have a rocket for an arm. Never did.

I haven't started a thread on it, but Chris Simms has been doing a Top 40 QBs for the coming season - revealing 2 each day. Of course, Eli barely makes the list, but Haskins and others who have never taken a snap in the NFL are higher. It is such a horse-shit take. I don't have a problem with an analyst rating starting QBs, but at least restrict the criteria to actual starting QBs not players who are #2 on the depth chart. In Simms case, he is doing a Top 40 so the QB2's have a place in what should logically be after the starters. But logic has no use when making these lists.

What? Why bring that into the picture?
When Kay weighed in favor for Washington, she gave the reason because they have Sweat [et al.]
I was thinking that is pretty rude to refer to Haskins as Sweat. He can't help being a fatty with no conditioning. Then I remembered they actually drafted Sweat.

I misread it...I thought they were saying he had a better arm. Let them do this. It seems every time someone makes this claim, it blows up in the other QB's face.
Well.
That was descriptive.

Probably not racism. But definitely stupidity, as McNabb had been to 3 straight NFCCs, 3 consecutive Pro Bowls, was 27 and in the prime of his career.
Kerry Collins had a better arm than Eli.
Kent Graham had a cannon arm too and that didn't keep him from being a JAG type player
Kerry Collins had a better arm than Eli.
Many are the "Cannon Arms" that weren't good enough for the NFL.
Giants absolutely wanted wanted those guys to be foundational pieces. They weren't. They were the 5 wins you mentioned.

That could be true, but how can he (or anyone) know such a thing? Dwayne Haskins wasn't even the best Washington QB in OTAs so far, according to some reports.
Longer Nate Burleson: "My fantasy of what Dwayne Haskins can do is more fun to think about than my fantasy of what Eli Manning can do."
Or, as someone above observed: Maybe he just thinks Eli is toast.
Was the best QB he played w. He had a noodle arm and was a VERY successful QB. Much more than lots of QBs
Saying any QB who hasn’t taken a single
Snap in even a pre season game is a joke and he’s trying to make a splash. Like him to but it’s a joke name he as a professional should be roasted. Eli isn’t Mr Popular around the NFL w guys. Not hated but let’s be honest. And for a guy w 2 legit SB MVPs is downright odd.
Nate. Burleson was a journey man slightly above average WR. Think these guys get big heads in front of the camera way too often
This guy actually gets paid for his “analysis”; wow.
Wins what? I'm not watching the clip, and I will continue to avoid these LCD shows.
Well to be fair Burleson isn't a journalist. It's a sports entertainment/pop culture show. They're paid for their opinions. And lots of times theirs directed to have opposing opinions. It's designed to do exactly what it's doing: get people to watch and have a reaction.
There's little to no risk in it.
It will be well received bc the majority of fans don't like him, or at least don't mind seeing him get slammed. Maybe it's the draft day thing, maybe it's a Manning family thing, maybe it's a NY bias thing, maybe it's the mannerisms and goofy faces. Probably depends on the fan but between those 4 boxes there's probably a lot of dislike, or at least like seeing him get busted on.
The other part of the equation is that Eli will never respond. He'll always take the high road. It's one of the reasons we love the guy. It also makes him an easy target for a quick joke. While a hot head who goes off the handle at being criticized may get even more attention, I don't think most media types want that baggage. Much easier to pull a hit and run on an easy target.
Old Man Burleson hates shit!
Go pick up a few pizza's Nate...

Yeah, Simms top 40 is a load of bullshit. I have no problem with him ranking Eli low, but ranking him #34 out of 32 teams is a strech. Remember, this as also the same show that had Charean Williams, and Mike Florio absolutely gushing with praise for the Redskins O-Line, without ever mentioning Ereck Flowers, and the injury concerns they have with Trent Williams.
At this point, is Haskins more athletic? Is he a better thrower of the football? Does he move around better? All of the above may be, and probably are, true. But to say he's a better *quarterback*, emphasizing a term that connotes the complete package of an NFL signal-caller beyond the measurable physical traits, is a big misnomer.

Haskins hasn't ever played a down the the NFL, Eli is a SB MVP. How the hell does NB know if Haskins will even be average, let alone good. I am so sick of journalism in all fields, going after clicks rather than facts.

To be fair, all they really need is Kay alone on the air discussing flavors of bubblegum and they would still capture the target audience.
I think his two Super Bowl runs gave him a status that many players don’t believe he deserves.
Mostly I think they resent the money he has made, the fame of his name, and the Giants loyalty to him. I believe it is the latter which skews their view of Giants management, including the Beckham trade.
As to the claim Haskins is a better quarterback, we shall see. There would have been the same outrage had he said the same thing about Mayfield at this juncture last season.
Maybe most here believe Eli is a better quarterback than Mayfield still, but that sentiment would get a lot of push back around the league
Dude, go see a doctor
As far as NB's comments, I think NB just thinks Eli is toast. And his comments kind of alluded to that about his arm. There is no way a former professional football player would say any rookie is better than an established vet unless he thought that vet was cooked.
Right, obviously biased opinions. It's not really a secret or anything. Someone earlier bemoaned the state of "sports journalism". This isn't sports journalism. That's become a niche market and exists in small, last bastion strongholds like The Athletic. Legit journalism still exists, much like good movies are new music. Just have to be willing to look for it.
