Win the #2 RB position. Rod Smith "soften the up" (like Brandon Jacobs used to); Barkley make the big plays and Perkins not let them catch their breath.
With improved line play, (and fresh legs) he can duplicate what he did at UCLA ...

Just think Perkins has a higher ceiling, with the ball in his hands. Good hands, quick, excellent balance and good blocker.
May the best man win !
But after a heavy dose of Smith and Barkley, the defense is bloody and is no condition to chase a scatback like Perkins.
He's 5'10"
Quick, elusive;, won't break too many tackles; often makes the 1st tackler miss.
Gallman passes the eye test. He's got some shiftiness, doesn't go down easily and fights for yardage. Perkins pales by comaprison, in my book.

Perkins was at his worst when our O-line was at its worst.
Friend of mine as well said the same thing. Gallman is legit if he can cure the fumbling issues. 2 of his fumbles last season came on catches where he was immediately hit as he turned up field. Hopefully Wayne can win the #2 job
Sounds like a match made in heaven....
Gallman is a very good 2nd RB and should not be dismissed in lieu of a guy that has not played in over a year. I hope Perkins comes back strong. The more the merrier. But I doubt Gallman is not on the 53 man roster come Sept 1.
i'll be surprised if Perkins is on the 53 come September

I agree maybe they can trade Perkins for a late rounder .
2. Receiving
3. Special teams
How is Perkins in those areas?
....The Wayne Train was no slouch at Clemson. He led the nation's best backs in yards after contact. He was also money on goal line and short yardage. Good at blocking and pass receiving out of the backfield. His negative was lack of breakaway speed.
Listen to Patti's LockedOn Giants Podcast from 6/6 to hear them discuss it. On 6/7 Patti mentioned Perkins as one of her top 6/7/8 players from the set of 3 mandatory minicamp practices. IIRC the whole list was: Jones, Perkins, Slayton, Conrad, Carter, Peppers, maybe another 1 or 2.
I doubt Gallman is a roster lock, let alone assured the #2 RB slot. Bisignano noted Gallman dropped a couple of easy receptions last year, and that pissed off PS no end.
Gallman is nothing special. He isnt under appreciated, hes recognized for what he is - an average back. And if you're going to play runningback in Shurmurs offense, you better be able to catch the ball. I dont think Shurmur is comfortable with Gallmans drops.
Perkins was pretty dynamic at times as a rookie. If he recaptures that form now that he’s healthy and running behind a competent line, he’s a better back than Gallman hands down.

Tiki mastered the art of the cutback. With a lot of help from his fullback (Jim Finn), he drove a lot of defenses nuts.
Further, as Carl Banks points out Perkins already has the knack of drawing tacklers into the gaps, then running way from them - that takes vision, recognition, quick reactions and great feet.
Gallman is a traditional slasher type; I don't think he'll ever be any more than that
(As well as improved down-field blocking) will help.
Coaches must see something good, else he wouldn't get the good reports he's getting
