beating their chest in the 6th inning of the first game of a doubleheader...relax...
Hey man, blame the guy who was puffing his chest out yesterday. If you do that and your boy gets torched then, yeah, you're in for a mocking.
My point about Wheeler stands - he's a great thrower who isn't a great pitcher. Lots of Ks but lots of hard contact as well.
Gotta agree with Greg on this. Most Yankee fans here couldn't really give a rats ass about the Mets. We aren't concerned with them or anything like that.
I don't think there would be much if any smack being talked here if it weren't for a Mets fan stirring the pot yesterday, and now it's directed more at that than the Mets themselves or their other fans.
that this thread*
I'm going with that. This must feel like playing on Mercury.
Alonso strikes out on his backside.
But hey, I am one of the realistic Mets fans out there who does not throw rose pedals at the feet of shitty owners and lineup that just isn't that good. Don't get me started with Hee Haw and his in game decision making.
Agreed, the bats can catch up with the heat, but it's the offspeed stuff that seems to trip us up. Look at some of the games where we've put up only 1 or 2 runs (not shutout), and who we've faced.
Jordan Zimmerman- 91.2 average FB MPH
Matthew Boyd- 90.5
Homer Bailey- 93
Carlos Rodon- 92.9
Zack Greinke- 89.5
Merrill Kelly- 92
Yusei Kikuchi- 94
Zach Plesac- 95
Hopefully we can get to him early.
I think that's certainly playing a part in it but I also think these guys are so used to playing at night, their body clocks haven't caught up 100% to game speed.
You'd think they'd be better than they are today because it's not totally a one off like they never play day games. It just looks like some of these guys had a nice night out last night and could've used some more sleep.
Most BBI Yankee fans don't actually take any joy in beating the Mets or even follow them. I know I rarely even know more than a handful of names on the Mets. Probably most Yankee fans on BBI know the Sox farm system better than the MLB of the Mets. We just don't compete with each other
I suspect there are many more BBI Yankee fans than Mets but I don't know. I never go on Mets Threads so the only Mets fans I recognize are ZGiants and now allstarjim. And arc in the old days.
Its simply not a rivalry. Now on the field, you have some good pitchers and one great one so the Mets team is competitive despite a big difference in front office capability.
That's really what we are seeing. Players are good on both teams but one GM office on down is in transition. The other is a juggernaut with the arrow pointing up.
Its not a fair comparison but Mets fans have pretty bad owners and the Yankees owners just keep the pedal to the mettle. The current Steinbrenner is not the competitive nut his father was but they still start each year with a straightforward goal top on down. WS every year. Compete for every edge. It is what it is.
But hey, I am one of the realistic Mets fans out there who does not throw rose pedals at the feet of shitty owners and lineup that just isn't that good. Don't get me started with Hee Haw and his in game decision making.
I'll admit to checking in on a Mets game thread once in a while but it's definitely not to see if anyone is talking smack.
I have a decent amount of family and close friends who are Mets fans and I'll check to see if there's any news on the team. BBI is a pretty good place to find up to the minute happenings on the local clubs.
I do get a kick out of some threads where for no reason the Yanks are brought into it and taken a shot at. I have posted a reply to that kind of thing once in a while but it's not something I go looking for or reply to every time. Most of the time I just let it pass.
But hey, I am one of the realistic Mets fans out there who does not throw rose pedals at the feet of shitty owners and lineup that just isn't that good. Don't get me started with Hee Haw and his in game decision making.
So a handful of guys check in on Mets threads and that condemns to whole lot? You could probably count on your hands those that check in.

that Yanks fans say they could "care less" about the Mets, yet will check in on the few game threads that are created to see if there is anyone talking smack.

You would be surprised, it happens a lot more than you think.
He's even got his pitcher picked out!
I know fans usually don't want to see their own guy in the HR derby because they worry about the hangover and it messing with the players' swing, but I think Luke in the Derby would be awesome to see. I'd love for it to happen.
6 outs to get.
I didn't catch it exactly but they said on Yes something to the effect of him having the most HRs in the AL since he was called up last year. 30 in a little over 100 games or something like that.
Regardless, I'd love to see all our top power guys do it at least once. It'd be part of a remarkable journey for Voit over the past year.

offensive performance today. Voit was saying the other day he hopes to get the call for the home run derby. I'd love to see it. He'd certainly bring the energy and power

Only Yelich has more over that span - 114 games?

He's certainly proven himself as legitimate. He hits the ball hard and he commands the strike zone well, it's a good combination. Plus the guy just looks like he's having a blast out there, he's so easy to root for. What a win for the analytics group finding him

Checking in, not the performance I was hoping for but he's still better than Stroman. And I'd wager he has better final numbers on the season, as well. The point was is in one breath you talk up Stroman so much and the next you crap on Wheeler who has had better numbers on the season. It's one game today and I don't even care all that much because I'm a jaded Mets fan, but the comment was still nonsensical.

Agreed 100%. He's certainly won me over.
I remember his first few games or so I wasn't impressed or even hopeful. I was just glad we didn't give up much in Shreve and was glad he was gone. I would've taken a bag of balls for him but Voit has turned out to be a border line All Star player and like you said, easy and fun to root for.
Bellinger: 116 games, 28 homers
Trout: 94 games, 27 homers
Yelich, of course, leads everyone with 45 in 111 games in that span. Yikes.
Hug FIP tight all you want, it's a flawed stat. I'll take the guy who has pitched well in the AL East, thanks. You can keep Wheeler and his ERA of 5.
Thankfully the people in charge here are a lot smarter than I am and knew what they were doing.
Heck of a find.
Imagine being in the Cardinals shoes. Paying big bucks to acquire and pay Goldschmidt... while Voit is outperforming him and making absolute peanuts in comparison. And on top of that, only getting Shreve and Gallegos in return.
Gallegos has been okay - but I'm sure that's one they'd like to have back.
Kraken!
$25+ for 8 years minimum.
With Posey getting ~22 per, Sanchez would be well within his rights to ask for 30+ per.
You just can't find catchers with the power he has and the cannon arm - he's a very, very rare commodity right now and his value is through the roof.
But I bet he could ask for it and get close if he were on the open market.
And he missed a few weeks too. 20 homers in 47 games.

Incredible. That's almost, just about 1 HR every 2 games.
